Painted variants / Styles for Decorated Veteran

Hello. I have seen you have uploaded the styles for the Decorated Veteran, I would like to mention a couple of things before you make the painted variants, in case you do them:

  • It doesn't seem you are running HLMV on maximum settings, or you might be removing the background improperly, evidenced by the lack of anti-alias around the hat. I suggest looking at my guide in how to maximize the quality settings, as well how to properly remove the background. If you use HLMV++, you can use the built-in screenshot tool, which also works ("Options -> Make Screenshot..."), but you'll have to convert the .tga to .png before uploading to the Wiki, as well...
  • ...make sure to crop out the empty spaces of your images before uploading, otherwise they will look smaller in the article. If you use GIMP as your image tool, you can use the "Auto-Crop" feature in "Image -> Crop to Content". This will automatically remove any empty space available on your images. You can also use the Batch Image Manipulation Plugin (BIMP) to make the auto-crop process easier: https://alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/ (once installed, go to "File" -> "Batch Image Manipulation Plugin", click "Add" and click "Other GIMP procedure...", search for crop, and select plug-in-autocrop. You can set an entire folder for BIMP to do this process, as well adding an output folder for all your cropped imagery).
  • It seems that the angles for each style, as well classes, are different. Make sure you use the same Rot and Trans values for each style/class. You can modify these values by using Regedit. Once there, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\hlmv\ and you will see all the models you loaded via HLMV. Click the ones you want and make sure these values are the same per style (as well the lightrot in case you adjusted the lighting). If the model you are modifying its values is open in HLMV, you need to close before editing the values in Regedit.
  • I would suggest using a different angle that shows the top of the hat better, while still keeping the rims visible. To keep things consistent, you can rely on this page to get values used in other paint variants in the Wiki. I suggest using these values (slightly modified from Bomber's Bucket Hat's values):
    • Rot: (28.393925 -41.925488 -23.125006)
    • Trans: (69.000000 1.000000 69.000000)
  • Although, I would imagine the hat gets positioned differently per class. A way to circumvent this would be decompiling each model (using Crowbar), and set the origin axis (XYZ) to 0 0 0, or the same with another class (like, using the same values for the model you may use for the painted variants, so everything stays consistent without having to replace all paint variants again). I can help with this decompiling and recompiling part if you would like to.
  • When uploading painted variants and/or unpainted variants, make sure to use the {{subst:pid}} on the summary when you upload painted variants for the 1st time, and use {{subst:isd}} when uploading the unpainted variations for the 1st time. In case you forget, you can still use the same templates after you upload by using the "Edit" button at the top of the page (when viewing the specific file). This will automatically add the correct categories and licensing for each image.

For any questions, help and troubleshooting, feel free to send me a message on my TalkPage or Steam's comment section. Headphones style when? - User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.pngUser Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 15:16, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
