Template talk:Event end
Value?
I don't see much value in this template in its current form. The way it works still requires someone to manually edit the page to add the "ended" parameter. It's not much different from someone manually editing the page to change the text.
It does makes sense to automate this part so subpages are up to date, but if we're at the point of doing that, we could very well just turn the entire page into a template instead (c diff). — Tark 16:17, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Probably best to make sure its fully automated rather than having someone have to manually change it.

- Many languages supported on the wiki have very few active translators, a single active translator, or no translators at all, so the idea was to have a template that allowed the Timeline section for updates with events, such as Scream Fortress and Smissmas, to be instantly updated from "The event is set to end on..." to "The event ended on..." by anyone, not just those who can read and comprehend the language.
- If you guys can improve on my original idea, feel free to (and please) do so. - BrazilianNut (talk) 18:37, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Summer! Don't forget Summer!
- I think I quickly understood some of the point of this template.
- Some non-speaker could edit all the instances with the English keyword, but only by tapping every translation of the page.
- It occurs to me that if a language is active enough to have a translation, then, there maybe some translator around to end it. Maybe not.
- It should be fairly simple to automate it; just have it render the translations for "The event is set to end on ..." vs "The event ended on ..." depending on whether the parameter date has passed. Once the first one is set for an event, it is just copy-pasta.
- ... but then there are the few times Valve extends the date, but even then, you don't need a translator to update the date parameter.
