Howdy and Welcome
It's always good to see new users adding their bit to the Wiki, but I'd like to point you to a couple of pages you should take a look at before you get down to the serious editing. First and foremost, the help centre, which has information on all the basics of Wiki editing, and is well worth a read. The style guide has a lot of articles that explain the dos and don'ts of editing, and is extremely important if you don't want any of your edits reverted! Both these pages should be useful for new users to get to know their way around and avoid unecessary edits. And as you've already been helping with some of the Turkish articles you should also take a look at the language translation guide.
If you're ever looking for something to do, there is a task list. There's also the IRC, a chat room editors use to talk about their edits. While I don't use it myself, it is a great way to learn from older and more experienced editors while letting them know you're there.
Any questions, feel free to ask, and I'd be happy to help. The Wiki is full of friendly and helpful editors so don't hesitate to talk to anyone. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 07:10, 25 August 2011 (PDT)
- Thanks for the e-mail. I can see that you'll have your work cut out translating the articles into Turkish - only about 2% of them have been done! I'm afraid I can't help much on the code side of things - I'm not a translator myself so I've never used any of those templates. If you've taken a look at the language translation guide and still don't understand, I'd suggest you ask some of the guys on the Turkish translation page as they're the experts on this kind of thing - and they'll be able to talk to you in your own language. If you still need help understanding the templates, Seb26 is the guy to talk to, he'll be able to explain much better than I can and he's already helped some of the other Turkish translators get started.
- Lastly, it would be a good idea to set up your user page to let others know a bit about you and what you're doing on the Wiki (take a look at some other peoples' user pages if you need some ideas!). Translating is a huge job so if you know of anyone else who could help, that would also be great. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 04:36, 2 September 2011 (PDT)
- Hi again. To edit the top section of a page, you need to use the big Edit tab next to the search bar - this opens an edit box for the entire page at once, including the first section. As for the tables on the Spy page messing up, I'm afraid there's not much I can do - it's difficult to understand which sections are which when they're in a different language! I'd suggest talking to one of the other Turkish translators I mentioned earlier.
- As for the community items, they are granted to people who are extremely helpful to the TF2 community - translating enough pages and being helpful on the Wiki might be enough to earn a Wiki Cap, but you need to do something very special to get a weapon. There's a list of everyone who has one here - as you will see, it's something most of us can only dream about!
- In future please reply to me on this page instead of writing an e-mail - it will allow other users to see our discussion and help out too. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 10:10, 2 September 2011 (PDT)
Hi Memre98. I fixed the table on Spy/tr, it was just missing a couple of lines needed to close it properly. As for templates and translation, the majority of templates use 'translation switching'. This list of templates that use this is here, and on the bottom of each template page it will show which languages are supported. You can add | tr = text here
to each {{lang}}
on a new line and wherever that template is used, it will show the appropriate Turkish text. There is more info in the guide. The other type of template translation is the template dictionary, where item names, class names, achievements, and other strings from the game can be found and edited. If you need any further help, feel free to ask one of us again about anything. Also, I know of another Turkish translator User:Cnnoi33, he may be able to help you with things as well. seb26 15:29, 2 September 2011 (PDT)
Stuff
Hi again. If you've got ideas for hats, items, anything at all, you can start a discussion here on the forums - there's a whole thread dedicated to user-created content.
As for the little rectangle things on my userpage, they're called userboxes. There's a whole pile of pre-made ones you can use here, or you can learn how to make your own one by having a look at the userbox help page.
Again, please use this page or my talk page to ask any more questions, as you are more likely to get a quick response if more people can see it - and if I'm away I won't be able to reply! Have a nice evening =) » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 09:56, 5 September 2011 (PDT)
