What does this page do?
Anyone know what this page does? It is very confusing. Perhaps someone should add a description for it at the top. MR SLIN 20:50, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's a list of all the working attributes in the items_game.txt file. Shock394 20:31, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- I hope that clarifies some of it. I think I'll try detailing the first half of items_game.txt as well somewhere. Zaratustra 14:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Translation
So, how are the located lists for translations coming up? And is there any way we translators can help? GianAwesome 19:26, 29 June 2011 (PDT)
- I'm glad you ask. I was actually going to change this to a Template with translation switching.

- I should note that I'm working on generating localized attributes for this page. So translation efforts should be focused only on the header and footer, not the list itself. -- Lagg

Update?
I have no idea how to update a table like that, but I want you guys to know that a lot of those attributes won't be needing the "hidden/unused" Note. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aquarionus (talk) • (contribs) 01:28, 19 January 2012
Updated the whole template!
I just updated the whole template, all translated strings are added to the description field, and all attributes are in now.
Of course I didn't updated this manually, I used this script I wrote for doing this. — Robin0van0der0vliet (talk | contributions) - 12:09, 6 November 2012 (PST)
Value types
I think that the types are questionable. "Inverted percentage"? That's not even a mathematically agreed upon term. "Or"? WTF is OR? I know what it means, but most people won't. Then there is all the "additive" ones that aren't adding at all.
"Inverted percentage" isn't inverted at all. It, like the other mult_* attributes, acts as a multiplier. The real difference is that the multiplied attribute is bad for the player.
"Or" really sets a bit in a bitmask. Which happens to be done by using bitwise or.
Where do these labels even come from?
--Henke37 08:50, 13 January 2013 (PST)
- These value type names are the ones Valve uses in the item schema.
- Inverted percentage just means that the value displayed is
(1.0 - x) * 100
. So, if I have a value of 0.9 for fire rate penalty, it displays "10% slower firing speed." Likewise, percent just means that the value displayed isx - 1.0
, so clip bonus size of 1.10 displays as "+10% clip size".
- Incidentally, I don't think anyone has actually updated the actual attribute list in years, seeing as how the last attributes listed are for Halloween 2012 event.

TF2 Outpost is Dead
Since optf2.com is dead, all the links to the attributes on this page are dead too. Is there an alternative site to look at attributes used for weapons? If so, now is the time to update them.

Should the MvM upgrades that are categorized as "Unused" show that they're used in MvM?
I know that the "Unused" means that they are currently unused on a base weapon. However, the "unused" also applies for attributes that are in Mann vs Machine upgrades, such as "thermal_thruster_air_launch" or "bidirectional_teleport". I was wondering if the table would be updated to show that. Thanks.

A Funny Thing A Found
So attribute 415 is counts_as_assister, and the description on what it does says 'counts as assister is some kind of pet this update is going to be awesome'. That's pretty cool. OpalA (talk) 01:25, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Does Anyone know which attribute reduces the loose cannon recharge time?

- Likely 466, assuming you mean the fuse time.

Explaining attributes with unclear effects
I am an MvM mission maker and this exact page has been indispensable to me for looking up what attributes to use for what effect. However, many of these attributes have effects that aren't as obvious as a damage bonus or penalty. In order to fix this, I believe the table requires a "notes" section not unlike that found in other templates in order to clear up questions including but not limited to:
- Does "mad milk syringes" work on weapons other than syringe guns?
- Do body part scale attributes (such as "head scale") affect hitboxes?
- How much do the "stat X increases as health decreases" affect the named stat (if they do that as opposed to setting the weapon mode)?
This would be incredibly helpful for people making custom weapons or missions and whatnot, as well as clearing up confusion for the average reader. Without it, this page almost discourages reading it out of either curiosity or necessity and feels like it lacks crucial information. The only reasons I can see for not making change are as follows, alongside individual rebuttals:
- It would be too much work - There are people (including myself) who would be willing to work towards this goal. Even if it takes time, it can be done.
- It would require testing - It is absolutely possible to start a community server with item attribute mods installed in order to test the less straightforward attributes. Also, not all attributes would need tested, as the simple stat changes have obvious effects.
- The page would become confusing - Quite the opposite, actually. Adding in short notes would make the page easier to read if it was visually distinct from the other columns by being put to the far left, past the current "notes" section that only list whether the attribute is unused or hidden.
- This is not the place/this is not a modding wiki - There is no other place with an up-to-date list of every attribute in the game, not to mention so many people willing to contribute.
Also, if this gets the go-ahead, could someone please provide me with the link to the template? I've always had trouble getting to tables to edit them.

- There is already a notes section on the table, but I don't really see this project working out for reason 1 and 4 you've mentioned. I've heard "I am super dedicated to this" for many projects that ended up dead or just never starting. I do believe this is not a modding wiki, so instructions for that kind of stuff is best hosted on the Valve Developer Community instead. That being said, I think it can't really be harmful to have some extra details given that it's not something that's rather obvious (it seems like "how much does the stat X increases as Y decreases" stat has a value you set yourself) and they're kept rather short (i.e., "does not affect hitbox size" instead of "increasing the size of the player's model does not increase the size of the player's hitbox"). Also, these edits would obviously require the proof mentioned in point 2.
- Remember to also check out Help:Translation switching to make sure it's also compatible for other languages and not just English. The table is here.
