Basic Strategy

The tips noted under "Basic Strategy" do not comply with the TF2 Wiki style guide—they refer to commands that are specific to PC gamers, and therefore are of no help to console gamers. These commands also only work on qwerty keyboards which, despite their popularity, are not the only style in existence. GenericCola 07:40, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I noticed the displayed pictures for all classes are for the RED version of each class, except the Spy. Is there any particular reason? Betenoire 14:16, 9 December 2010 (UTC) Probably no particular reason though i think we should try to be consistent with the pictures. I might try to find a red one and put it in. Spelling/Grammar note

When editing Spy pages, keep in mind that the weapon name is "L'Etranger", not "the L'Etranger". The L and apostrophe are a French equivalent of "the". So, writing "the L'Etranger" is the same as writing "the the Etranger". Sorry for the nitpick, but being fluent in French, this is an error that often frustrates me. --Szthesquid 19:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Can you explain more clearly, I can't really see the difference; is the apostrophe in a different place? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mattkim824 (talk) • (contribs) 03:41, 13 October 2011
I think Szthesquid is referring to the "the" prefix. Please remember to sign your name after possts by typing ~~~~ thanks. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 03:25, 23 October 2011 (PDT)

i have been noticing alot about the spy pistols they all have the achievement 'A Cut Above' but it's not specific to any pistol the achievement works with any pistol at all and is not specific to a certain pistol

i have been getting messages from people saying "as long it has to do with the weapon its ok" and other people saying "it must be specific to that weapon to be counted" so what is the correct statement can someone clear that up for me? Lexicon249 05:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

(Backstab: 450) The Knife deals more than 450 Dmg, it deals 6x of the enemys maximum healthpoints. This could be important, because Deadringer Spys sometimes can take more than 450 damage points. --Picard 08:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

You are correct, editted --Firestorm 01:21, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Another thing I noticed :D
"Ironically, the Spy is voiced by Dennis Bateman, the same VA as the Pyro, his second worst enemy."
Who is the Spys worst enemy? Because the Sniper isnt the worst Enemy of the Spy, but the Spy is the worst enemy of the Sniper. --Picard 21:32, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
I guess "Enemy" is referring to the one he hates the most. I don't like the line at all though. --Firestorm 21:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
"The Spy appears to have separate voices for BLU and RED as the RED Spy has a lower, raspier voice." Does he? Is this referring only to voices of the spies in Valve machinima? I had never noticed. --A Sassy Dog 15:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

The red spy does speak in a lower voice. In Meet the Spy you can tell the difference. Kevschow 01:38, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Only in his 'Meet The...' video. In gameplay, there is no difference between the two teams. This tidbit is listed on the 'Meet The Spy' page, which I reckon is more appropriate than having it here. Alphard 15:12, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure what information you're trying to correct as those values are already listed (albeit as ranges) in the articles for each of those weapons. -RJ 01:32, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering, why were the revolvers listed as secondary weapons? cause in the loadouts, i see them as 1st: Revolver 2nd: Sapper 3rd: Knife PDA: spy watch. I get kind of confused like that. -Weirdduder10 13:52:32, 14 October 2012

Regarding the current second to last trivia ("Before the Spy update..."): it ends with the statement '"As his voice lines are said in a calm collected manner, this gives him a split personality."' This seems rather like a stretch, but I'm new here and don't want to edit something out of existence based solely on my judgement (yet). Can someone else sound off on this or just jump in and delete it? Thanks. Scurve 07:05, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

View Model Beta Color Scheme

The Spy's view model sleeves still have beta color schemes. In addition, the number of stripes on his sleeve do not match the world model.

Is the essentially saying the same thing? Could it be rewritten as "The spy's view model sleeves are from the beta texture and do not match the color and stripe count of the world model" or something? CptObvious 08:10, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

New Spy Picture

I noticed that the original picture of the Spy standing with the knife and smoking has been replaced with a Spy "taunting" and pulling up a sigarrette from his Spy-Kit. Spy's identity?

Is it possible that the Spy is actually Gray Mann? In Blood Brothers, he says "Gentlemen" (one of the Spy's phrases), wears a suit that resembles Spy's (albeit a different color), and kills Redmond and Blutarch by stabbing them in the back. Digifreek 09:54, 13 August 2012 (PDT)

Well, he actually stabs them in the chest going from his relative position at the end of the comic, but speculation and this kind of discussion belongs on the Steam Forums ^^ User Wingless Winged Signature.png 09:55, 13 August 2012 (PDT)
If i had to say who would most likely be Gray Mann would be engineer's grandfather, or engineer. Because Engineer's grandfather had a blueprint that had a scout robot, which is confusing because scout was probably not even born at the time, And spy's well known phrase "Gentlemen" doesn't mean who ever says it is the spy. Weirdduder10 13:02:31, 14 October 2012
As the other pages of the wiki and the comics says, Grey Mann is the third child of Zepheniah Mann and is the third of the Mann Brothers. Assuming his relationship with the scout's mother, it is a possibility that he is his father, since the page regarding the scount's mother did not mention anything regarding her marriage. Disguising Crash

I've had this glitch happen on multiple occasions. When you are disguised as a class with an unequippable backpack, like the Sniper with the Darwin's Danger Shield, and you try to switch to it by pulling out the sapper and hitting the disguise weapon button, the game crashes. Budder Bowler (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2015 (PDT)

So, i'm a Spy player for 500+ hours, and never seen this happening, this can be a crash with your pc (bad config or whatever). — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him!Contribs} 17:34, 15 May 2015 (PDT)
I tested in itemtest and nothing happened. But, one thing I didn't tested was disguising a Sniper with Darwin Shield which later switches to another secondary weapon via his loadout, this isn't possible on itemtest, and I haven't done this on normal gameplay. User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.pngUser Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 17:40, 15 May 2015 (PDT)
From what happens when I do it is playing as Spy and disguising as Sniper who has the Darwin's Danger Shield equipped. What the game appears to do is try to have the sniper equip a weapon that is not there, and it defaults to the SMG, but it then crashes since the game appears to know this is not possible. Budder Bowler (talk) 18:33, 17 May 2015 (PDT)

Please remove it from the languages spoken by the spy. It was added by some user a few years back with no factual proof. There is no evidence anywhere.

Inspect Bug

I found a bug that occurs when spy inspects his knife. An additional arm will appear on the left side of the screen. This will happen with any knife, with or without a watch active, on any FOV above 60. --Gibus Gold (talk) 04:01, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Interesting find... However, this bug would fall under the minor bug category. Since this visual bug does not really affects gameplay, and only happens when you have an FOV higher than 60.
Thanks for bringing it to the talk page tho. YossefTalk 08:47, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
This happens with quite a few viewmodels, the most notable one being the Original viewmodel or the Sapper (except they are without inspecting). Usually minmode solves this.

If Spy fathered Jeremy (Scout), Did he father the siblings as well?

Ok, so, if As revealed in Naked and the Dead, RED Spy is RED Scout’s biological father. If he fathered Jeremy, did he father Scout’s siblings as well? I mean, he couldn’t have, justifying if Scout would be the youngest of his siblings , why leave him as the youngest, and why didn’t Scout’s siblings not bring up any mention of Spy whatsoever? And interesting dialogue from Scout mentions that his father left him. And considering his age in late 1920s to 1930s -1972, he couldn’t have that much kids in such a short time stamp, but he might have, considering, again, Scout is the youngest.

Soldurian (talk) 19:07, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

It's only speculation that Spy is Scout's father, not a 100% thing.
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:12, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
Well, it would be heavily implied by Valve that Spy is Scout’s Father, considering NATD.
Soldurian (talk) 19:13, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
It is heavily implied but not a confirmed thing, so any speculation about siblings would already assume that he is the father.
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:20, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Was Meet The Spy supposed to be the prequel to Meet The Medic?

I have a hunch about why that BLU Spy head is in Medic’s Fridge. Meet The Spy. When Soldier Shoots Spy. However, Spy’s head would be realistically blown to bits, but Medic could have pieced it back, as shown in MvM. But that does not explain how it did not piece the body back together. However, that could have been the Medigun in early stages, malfunctioning. But, I’m just speculating.

Soldurian (talk) 14:53, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

The BLU classes die over and over in the Meet the Team videos. Nearly the entire BLU team appears beheaded at the end of Meet the Soldier; a BLU Soldier dies in every Meet the Team video (and several die just in Meet the Medic). The deaths of the BLU team are not really taken in consideration for this. - BrazilianNut (talk) 21:32, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Why does the Disguise Kit have the option to disguise as the same team?

Why does it? I mean, it could be from someone being autobalanced, manually switching teams, etc. But why would it be? It’s totally pointless. But, maybe it had a hidden gem. Soldurian (talk) 16:06, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

The option to disguise as teammates can be used for fooling enemies into thinking that you haven't feigned death if used in combination with the Dead Ringer, or it can be used while pushing the cart to confuse enemy Snipers (due to a different in the hitbox) or make enemies more reluctant to approach you (if you are a Heavy, for example).

The "Weapons" section of the classes' articles only lists the Base and crit damages of each weapon, which, in the Revolver's case, is 40.
