You! Yes, you! You are dead!
The Heavy

A Death occurs when a player's life drops below one health point, resulting in a kill. There are several types of kills that can be inflicted either by players or by the environment. A death yields a range of points to the player or players who dealt the killing blow and adds one to your own death count. The name of you and your killer (if you were killed by a player) is displayed in the recent kills log on the upper right corner of the HUD. After you are killed, you enter the respawn cycle and must wait a certain length of time before you can rejoin the game. Upon death, a player will also drop his weapon, yielding ammo and metal to other players should they walk over it. The following is a list of different types of kills:

Player Kills

  • Regular Weapon Kills - 1 Point
  • Being Finished Off - 1 Point (This occurs if a player kills himself when he has been damaged by another player. It may also be shown if a damaged player disconnects or uses the kill command in console.)
  • Drowning- 1 Death (This occurs if a player stays underwater for a large amount of time. To remedy this, just resurface and some of the health lost will regenerate.)
  • Telefrag - 1 Point (This occurs if a player is standing upon a teleporter exit as it is being used.)
  • Slaying - 1 Death (This is a command available to an admin which allows him to instantly reduce any player's health to zero. This is normally used to remove a laggy player from play or to punish the player for offences committed on the server. A slay can be initiated by the player himself by typing kill or explode into the console)
  • A Destruction (1 Point) could be considered a type of kill, though you achieve one for destroying buildings and not other players.
  • Bleeding (1 Point) (This occurs only when the player is hit with the Tribalman's shiv. Should the player die to the bleed condition, it will award the point to the Sniper.)

Environmental Kills

  • Falling- 1 Death (Where the player is killed by fall damage by falling from a great height, usually having been weakened first. This may also occur after the player falls as a result of being juggled) A player will only die from a fall if they are under 20 health, though damage can vary somewhat depending on the height from which you fall. If you fall from beyond a certain air height, falling will kill you instantly. Some areas of maps which are out of bounds will also insta-kill you with fall damage when you hit them, even if a fall of that height would not normally kill you or if you negate your falling speed with a double jump.
  • Being hit by a Train or Saw blade- 1 Death (During a game in Well and its variations, trains occur frequently in the central capture points. These move very quickly and cause instant death to any player who is hit by them, regardless of whether there is an ÜberCharge active on them or not. Lights and sounds indicate when a train is about to arrive, warning players to move out of the way. In the arena map Sawmill, two large saw blades move slowly along opposing tracks in the floor next to the central capture point. Being hit by the edge of one results in instant death.
  • Explosion- 1 Death (Where the player is caught in the explosion in the final stage of a payload or payload race map should the attacking team be victorious. Jumping into the fiery pit will produce the same kill message.)
Unused explosion kill icon
  • Killed by Pumpkin bomb- 1 Death (Where a player is killed in the blast from a pumpkin bomb on the event version of Harvest.)
