Cave Johnson

To be clear, Cave Johnson IS in VS Saxton Hale Mode, but only in a special version, an early version of which is seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkNfBbIfGts . It has been updated past this point, but this is on a single server so far. The maker of the Cave Johnson version is planning on releasing it or giving it to Eggman (the creator of the original VS Saxton Hale mode), so we might as well save Cave Johnson stuff for that time. It should also be noted that several versions of VS Saxton Hale mode exist (including TF2 Fight Night which appears on Slag Gaming servers) that have many more/different special characters than the four from the original mode. I saw one with Gabe Newell and Cuddly Heavy. It made very little sense, but was quite well-made. FlaminSarge 14:34, 27 June 2011 (PDT)

Your link is broken.--Magnum Force-Enforcer 15:42, 1 March 2012 (PST)
There's two or three servers running Cave Johnson right now. I can post them here. I do all the current work on VS Saxton Hale mode (at least, the version that's publicly released on AlliedMods). I may or may not add Cave to the main VSH mod rather than keep him in a custom version. Either way, if you want a demonstration I can put the IP's somewhere. FlaminSarge 03:56, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
About that version of VSH with Gabe Newell and Cuddly Heavy, they are part of a VS Saxton Hale Remake, done by SolarFlare of Ozzy Furocity. The remake is closed source and only on OzFur servers. (I know, because I frequent those servers) But anyways, here is a video of the VSH remake. TheIgnorantMedic 04:21, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
I know. -FlaminSarge 23:58, 15 July 2012 (PDT)

That would be cool if you could. If you want put them on my Discussion page. I have never fought Cave and would like to.--Magnum Force-Enforcer 09:46, 4 April 2012 (PDT)

Chdata (talk) 08:23, 10 January 2014 (PST) If anyone's curious, I made Cave Johnson on my server so now there's 3 VSH servers with him. Mines behaves exactly like the one in Saxton Hell more or less. tf2data.com:27016

Should we mention mods for VSH?

I know that there are mods for versus Saxton Hale, such as Painis Cupcake, Dic Soupcan, and the Team Fortress 2 announcer. Does anyone think that VSH mods are noteworthy? Flashn00b 02:25, 15 August 2011 (PDT)

If the article can mention "Goomba Stomp," I say that it's notable. If no one disagrees, I will type out some trivia within the hour. Sven 13:18, 23 September 2011 (PDT)
No. There are far too many to mention. Goomba Stomp is only mentioned because it's particularly noteworthy and is used very often. Painted Vintage Merryweather 803020.pngFyahweather 13:24, 23 September 2011 (PDT)
So I take it that a bit of trivia like "In some variants of this mod/gamemode, additional characters such as the Administrator and Cave Johnson have made appearances" would be out of the question? Sven 13:37, 23 September 2011 (PDT)
That may be okay, but it's already stated that many different servers have different characters. Notice the Demopan being mentioned. Painted Vintage Merryweather 803020.pngFyahweather 14:20, 23 September 2011 (PDT)
In that case, I feel that a rewrite might be in order. At least the Administrator and Cave Johnson are canon to their respective universes, whilst the Demopan is just a meme, and countless other characters are just random models given playability. Sven 08:46, 24 September 2011 (PDT)

Outdated info

The info on this page is severely outdated. Would anybody mind helping me update everything? (I made the most recent updates to the actual gamemode). -FlaminSarge 23:42, 23 September 2011 (PDT)

Alright, I got a lot of the changes in, except for the actual changelog section. -FlaminSarge 01:09, 24 September 2011 (PDT)
Updated info to version 1.37b, listed the changes in changelog and balancing specifics. --Ed 21:12, 27 November 2011 (PST)

Christian Brutal Sniper

The Christian Brutal Sniper looks very different from what he does in KelThuzud's videos. I think we should add a picture of him to the gallery. We already have Saxton Hale and the others, why not add CBS to the mix?--Magnum Force-Enforcer 17:31, 28 February 2012 (PST)

It wouldn't hurt to take some proper images in HLMV, really. I might just do that.--Fiskie Talk :: Contribs 17:44, 28 February 2012 (PST)

If you don't feel like doin' it I'll gladly do it. I play VS SH quite often and can get a quick pic of CBS. What about pictures of each "bosses" first person view too?The preceding unsigned comment was added by Magnum Force-Enforcer (talk) • (contribs)

I can do it inside HLMV so the pictures are clean. It's better this way rather that using an in-game screenshot, as it's much cleaner. example --Fiskie Talk :: Contribs 17:58, 28 February 2012 (PST)
Ok good idea.--Magnum Force-Enforcer 12:17, 29 February 2012 (PST)
The CBS skin is the "Biohazard Sniper" skin by Felthorn. It's used in one of KelThuzadMadness's videos for the CBS. The one subtitled "Origins", I believe. -FlaminSarge 23:54, 19 June 2012 (PDT)

External reference for HHH Jr., Vagineer and CBS?

I think we should explain those in a different page/section rather than link to knowyourmeme. I highly disagree with KYM being used as a general source/reference, and having our own page/section about those characters would be for the best. —BobMathrotus 12:27, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Why is the voice of Saxton Hale not listed here?

Hello! I'm the guy who voices Saxton Hale for this mod, and I'd like it if it was mentioned in this article somewhere. I'd like to be credited as "Dreux Ferrano Jr." if that is okay. Druox 10:00, 3 September 2012 (PDT)

I'll wait for FlaminSarge's answer that is right or wrong. I never trust anybody without source. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) - (contributions) 10:14, 3 September 2012 (PDT)
a source? What would you need to see? I can see if I can get it for you. You can ask the mod creator if you want. Druox 13:21, 3 September 2012 (PDT)
Indeed he is. -FlaminSarge 18:04, 4 September 2012 (PDT)

Wrong formula for the calculus of health

"Health is calculated as [(760+n)×n]^1.04, where n is the initial number of players on the enemy team. When n<5, n increments by 2"

That's not true. Let's call "number of player on the red (enemy) team "np"". The n in the formula it's not np, it's np+1. And if np<5, n it's not np+2, it remains np+1. As a consequence of this, the table below is incorrect. (if you put a random n from the table in that formula, you get a different number of hp.)

(Another minor "error" it's the approximation of the exponent, that leads to a 0,15% error in the number of hp. It should be around 1,04014 instead of 1,04, but that's not important!) -Brakko 12:49, 11 December 2012 (PST)

I'm sure you've already looked at this, but http://pastebin.com/NnSuQDG2. The formula counts the number of players that aren't Hale as N, and if that's less than 5, then adds 2 to N. Then it sets Hale's max health to the nearest integer of [(760+N)*(N-1)]^(1.04). It's a dumb formula and I don't even know why it exists, but it does, and the RoundFloat is to clear up any approximation error. -FlaminSarge 01:53, 22 December 2012 (PST)
It's not what I thought, but now the formula and the explanation of it are correct. The table it's already correct, it was wrong with the previous formula. Thanks!-Brakko 09:25, 24 December 2012 (PST)

Telefrag

Teleporting into Saxton Hale deals 9001 (exactly that) damage compared to normal 1000. I think it should be mentioned on the page. --Nik1895 20:55, 9 February 2013 (PST)

New Hale? Captain Kinky

Hello! I recently played on a VSH server and found a new boss named Captain Kinky, who just seems to be a reskin of the original Hale. However, I don't know if he can be put in VS Saxton Hale Mode or in Freak Fortress 2.

Any other witnesses? --000marioshi000 (talk) 09:52, 3 June 2013 (PDT)

It's not official, it's the equivalent of any other custom boss for Freak Fortress 2 (we're not listing THOSE here either). I don't plan on supporting the boss, either, so he's won't be 'official'. He's also lacking in the 'class' department. I mean, c'mon. -FlaminSarge (talk) 18:57, 4 June 2013 (PDT)
It's just because I saw it on a VSH server and not on a Freak Fortress 2 server, and I was starting to asking myself questions about it. But I indeed saw this thread you quoted and all this is "making my brain hurt" (Ash Williams). Maybe it's just the server's admin who added it in his own server. We'll see.--000marioshi000 (talk) 02:41, 6 June 2013 (PDT)

Updating this wiki page

I don't do stuff on Wikis often, so I'd like someone look over my attempt at updating the information on this page.

I'm the person developing VSH now. FlaminSarge stickied my thread on Allied Mods. My forum signature should link to my steam profile, and my steam profile links to this wiki account. (For anyone needing proof).

- Updated max boss health formula with a new table.
- Added information about the version updates from 1.43 to 1.52
- Version 1.51 was technically skipped and released as part of 1.52, hence the 1.51-1.52 changelog. - Removed some fixed bugs. One of them isn't necessarily a bug, but I decided to reword and leave it.
- The Random Fortress .ru sites seem to be broken links? Or is my internet just slow?
- The information about class weapon changes are most likely outdated.
- I added to the patch notes about the new taunt menu, but I'm not sure what update the taunt menu was actually introduced in since the update history for taunts doesn't seem to directly mention it...

Chdata (talk) 10:24, 26 April 2015 (PDT)

Well, if you can supply new info about the updates then its possible we can update things such as class weapons and what not. I'll bug FlaminSarge about this later. Ashes (talk) 12:07, 26 April 2015 (PDT)

I fixed up some inaccurate data. I also updated the links to steam profiles to use Steam64 IDs instead of the potentially variable CustomURLs.

The data on weapon mechanics should be closer to what's actually in the latest version of the game mode, but I may have gotten some minute things wrong (such as what the Battallion's Backup max overheal actually is). Remember to check what version of VSH the server is using if you test anything in-game, as a few also still run older versions. Chdata (talk) 14:39, 20 June 2015 (PDT)

Give the SourceMod and VScript versions of VSH their own categories?

With the release of vsh_tinyrock and its overwhelming popularity along with the possibility of being officially added to TF2. I think it's time to give the VScript it's own section and how much it differs from the SourceMod version. HueyCan (talk) 19:29, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Are there any numbers for how many servers run this map? The possibility of being officially added to TF2 is not a valid criteria for notability, as anything uploaded to the Workshop has that possibility.
GrampaSwood (talk) 06:57, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
If there is only few maps featuring vsh through VScript, I don't think its necessary to create a entire new section. But if you believe its that worth to the community you can note it on this page or just create the map's page(IDK the rules about creating pages of community maps you'd better ask before create it)

Profiteer(奸商) (talk) 15:11, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

One map is not notable enough to make an entire article about it, at best (after its popularity has been proven) a line or 2 can be added here.
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:48, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Add Reanimators to the main page?

One particular server I've been on has the Reanimator feature from Mann vs Machine where RED teammates can be revived. Should it be added to the main page? Dan the mann (talk) 01:29, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

thats a feature of a plugin, if it's not provided by another plugin then you must be playing on a team potry server, which both aren't suppose to be here, this page should only contain offical VSH content Profiteer(奸商)the tryhard (talk) 01:34, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
There is no such thing as "official" VSH content, considering there are multiple variations and different rules. Which is also a reason it should not be featured, as this page should cover the core features of the gamemode (i.e. you fight a Saxton Hale boss, there is only 1 Hale, etc.).
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:49, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Rename page?

Since the official one is Versus Saxton Hale, shouldn't this be renamed/moved this to Versus Saxton Hale (custom game mode) or Versus Saxton Hale (community custom game mode)?
