Whammy trivia

I never made a discussion for this because I completely forgot. But, the texture file for the "Whammy" fates are called "death_wheel_whammy.vtf" in the game files and being that they are the negative outcomes from the Wheel of Fate I think this is a reference to the game show Press Your Luck which had a similar mechanic. In Press Your Luck there was a large light board and a square would randomly* bounce around and you would press a button to stop the square and would would receive whatever prize the square landed on. However it was risky because some squares were "Whammies". If you landed on a "Whammy" you would lose all your money and any previous prizes. Was quite common for contestants on the show to say "Big Bucks, No Whammies, No Whammies" and such before hitting the button to hopefully avoid the bad outcome. Here's a video example of what it looked like. The page already calls the negative effects "Whammy". Seems logical to explain the reference in the trivia. *It wasn't actually random and this dude named Michael Larson figured out how it worked and was able to win $110,237 by always getting the good outcomes and avoiding the whammies.

Pretty sure you mentioned this in IRC before and I agreed so Pictogram plus.png Support.

Pictogram plus.png Agree Oh so thats what that phrase meant. I had heard it once before and thought it was just some gibberish, learn something new everyday. Yeah no the wheel of fate similarities to the show make sense and it feels culturally relevant enough that whammy doesn’t make sense for being associated with anything else. Pictogram plus.png Yes. It is interesting enough to mention in trivia, in my opinion.
