Welcome (and some tips)

Howdy there, I just wanted to say that I greatly appreciate the locations, as well as the augmenting images that you've added to Maul, great job there :D. However, you do need to improve on some things in that regard. First of, when uploading files, especially images for Maps, you need to add categories and a proper license. For categories, simply type "(double square brackets)Category: insert category here (double square brackets)" in the summary field when uploading a file. In this case, the proper category was: . Finally, you should also add a license to every image, which in this case was a simple Screenshot.

Additionally, one of your images: "File:VSH Maul Sweet Homegoods.png" has the snipping tool visible, you should probably redo that one before I get to it >:D. Hope you don't take this too much to heart and keep up the good work. Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 04:09, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
OH sorry, thank you for the pointers man. I see you've already fixed the category and licensing issues and I will be mindful in the future. I also fixed the screenshot issue before you mentioned it here. Fisherboy800 (talk) 04:49, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
Remember to indent your replies using colons.
Also, simply using mapimg (see documentation on how to use it) for map images is much easier (but remember to not add a license from the drop-down menu).
When you notice you've messed up an image, don't reupload the file under a different name. At the bottom of the original file's page there is a button that allows you to upload a new version.
Please also take a look at Help:Taking screenshots. Screenshots should use the in-game screenshot feature, not Windows' Snip & Sketch.
And finally, the images should be named with their actual names in the file, e.g. "Maul RED spawn" instead of "VSH Maul RED spawn".

Saxton Hale responses

Hi there,

Please name the files appropriately, and not just the file names from the .bsp. They should contain the name of the character (and the map if it's map-specific). E.g. "Saxton Hale Round start long 01 Maul.mp3".
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 00:24, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

I apologize, I kept their original file names that way because that is the way the others are. I don't think I will go through the undertaking of renaming all of those other files but for the ones I have done I can. Fisherboy800 (talk) 00:34, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Checking now, I don't see a way to edit the original file uploads I made. Nothing I can find on the help page about editing uploads. Would I need to have to make entirely new files and rename them to fix this? Fisherboy800 (talk) 04:54, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
You can move a file through: More-> Move and edit it to the name you want, the original file page will turn into a redirect link, mark the redirect link with delete to notify the mods to delete it. Also remember to change the file link on every page that uses the file.
Thank you :)

Thank you for appreciating my intuitive and well designed demonstrations tab that let there be no doubt I made. Some notes about the recent Aquarius edits

Hi there,

When adding the same reference multiple times, you can use name="refname" to assign the same references multiple times. It looks much cleaner and requires less work on your end too, though adding the same reference multiple times is not necessary if you list them under a single bullet point (as done on the Aquarius article). It would look like this: Which can then be put in other places by typing .

It is also not necessary to specify 'this map' or 'on Aquarius' (both on the map article and on the strategy article), as it is obvious the map is being talked about.

Weapon stats history

Do you want to collab on this project and finish it? User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 09:08, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

I am flattered you’ve reached out for this great task Mr. Denied TF2wiki, I would love to collaborate on this project as I think its a really interesting and important. Sadly, I do not believe I would be able to contribute to any significant degree basically until the holiday season as I am starting a semester with more time intensive classes than I am used to and I do not have my PC setup where I currently live. I am sorry if this deters you from attempting this herculean effort, but if you do I would be happy to help in the ways I can during the next few weeks (I particularly wanna research Spy’s weapon balance history). Alright. I'll start some research too, and when you have time, we can combine our work. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 07:58, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

Are you sure you know how to do it? Looking at your work, it looks like a combination of current and previous stats mixed together, instead of showing how they looked on release and changed over the years, up to the last update. Look again at HatMann's and my work. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 11:24, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

Forgive me, I have seen the error of my former ways. I understood weapon descriptions in the past were different and have been adjusted, rewritten, and have had slight edits since their addition to the game even without balance changes. I had this concept on my mind when making these additions, but had failed to do so in most cases before implementing them. In the cases I did, I realize that I only included them when a weapon received a change that affected its balance. I will do my best to right these previous mistakes and will apply proper vigilance to include them into the future. User Fisherboy800 Fisherboy.gifUser Fisherboy800 User Talk Page.gifUser Fisherboy800 Contributions.gif 15:05, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
This isn't quite it yet. I've added some changes to the Ambassador's stats history. Most importantly, you don't need to copy and paste directly from the patch notes. You can modify changes that weren't attributes. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 14:58, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

I understand your changes to the hidden attributes and will be writing them to better reflect their implications on the weapons. However, I think you have made a few mistakes in your corrections. The Ambassador originally never had to be fully accurate to land headshots and had no false mention of this fact, originally being the way I had it before. It was changed in the June 23rd, 2009 patch note and with that had this fact added onto the item description until in the July 22nd, 2011 patch where it was changed back. Additionally, the first letters of the damage done and slower firing speed had been uppercase until the June 23rd, 2009 patch and on Hatmann's original project he had included similar displays of description differences on both the Fan O'War and Mad Milk stat history.

That being said, I am sorry for the trouble I have put you through cleaning up my work and educating me on such things. Thank you for this and I am glad you have been patient with me so far. I too hope you can recognize that I have place much more care into getting things right. User Fisherboy800 Fisherboy.gifUser Fisherboy800 User Talk Page.gifUser Fisherboy800 Contributions.gif 23:06, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

I don't think capitalization is that important to document it. Also changes like being able to destroy stickybombs with hitscan and melee weapons should be emitted, as this change was applied to multiple weapons and not just this one type (like faster universal weapon switch speed should be emitted). Maybe at the top of each table with stats history there could be added additional info like "This table documents only major changes to the weapon or the same type of weapons. For more detailed history, check the update history below.". User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 08:03, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your kind words about my picture! I made it last year after realizing that I'd never done anything containing all 9 mercs in it. I was super proud of it at the time, but as the months went on and my skills improved, I started to like it less. I noticed many small errors that bugged me, so I decided to finally remove it. I do plan on trying to remake it though, or something similar. But again, thanks a bunch for giving me feedback, it means a lot!! :) Submackeen (talk) 07:26, 19 September 2025 (UTC)

Strategy article consistency

Hi there,

The standard for the title is 'General Strategy (All Classes)', did you change this to 'General strategy (All Classes)' on every article?
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 10:10, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Yes. I am checking one of the articles that was written beforehand and it appears this way. I can correct it, but are you sure that having strategy capitalized is the best approach? On every article the strategy of "Class-specific strategy" had all been lowercase, even on the ones with the "standard". Additionally, when looking at the subtitles of other pages with two or more words I have not found a time where the second word of a title has been capitalized, especially in the instance where strategy is used as the "Basic strategy" section of every main class page is formatted this way (ex:Scout). It may be better to just change the "standard" to be the strategy lowercased, but if you still insist it be the other way around I can change these pages to reflect that. User Fisherboy800 Fisherboy.gifUser Fisherboy800 User Talk Page.gifUser Fisherboy800 Contributions.gif 14:31, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
The actual standard was all capitals, yeah. But I was just asking for Start map strategy.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is an official rule for Spanish translators on the TF2 Wiki, but as far as I remember, we usually use the translations from the Steam News Hub when creating the Spanish patch articles.

Missing Barker voice line

Heyo, you uploaded the voice lines of the Boardwalk barker. The requested move at File:Barker_idle_010.mp3 doesn't really make sense since there is only an idle 10 and an idle 12. I assume there's missing one upload for the idle 11 line. The previous idle 11 line was moved to lose 11 as per your request. If there is no furhter voice line, I'll move idle 12 to idle 11. — shots fired by: Nikno {Talk | Contribs} 10:33, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

 • Hey there, thanks for addressing the move request and sorry for the confusion. Its been a good couple of months so I don't remember how exactly I made this mistake, but the current idle 10 is supposed to be idle 11 and there is another missing voice line for idle 10 that says "I'm so alone... you weren't supposed to hear that." which I did not upload at the time due to waiting for this correction to be made. If you move this file I can upload the missing correct idle 10 file and correct the boardwalk page to reflect this. I cannot tell how much sense that makes but I'll summarize here:
 • There are 12 idle voice lines
 • I accidentally mislabeled idle 11 as idle 10
 • I did not upload the correct idle 10 up until this point because the file name was filled and I did not want to break the naming format.
 • Idle 12 is in its correct position, just move idle 10 to idle 11 and I can upload the correct idle 10 and update the Boardwalk Page to reflect this.

Costume maps

I can see you are planning on adding some costume maps that were apart of certain contests. Would you like me to upload a map overview for those maps? Or are you intending on doing that yourself? Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 23:15, 1 November 2025 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21

Oh jeez, I was literally about to ask you about stuff relating to moving a custom map to the main page. Yes that'd be super helpful if you could. If you don't mind me asking here, how would I go about moving a user page to an official map page? Right now I am holding off uploading the map location images because I figure it'd be easier to do so rather than having to move all of them in the future and change their descriptions, but I am not sure how exactly I should migrate them when the time comes. User Fisherboy800 Fisherboy.gifUser Fisherboy800 User Talk Page.gifUser Fisherboy800 Contributions.gif 23:20, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Well, before you move the costume map to mainspace or even start creating one in your sandbox, you should first check out Team Fortress Wiki:Community topics notability assessment project/Custom map assessments to see if your map is deemed notable enough. If your map isn't notable, it will simply be dead on arrival (the mods are gona delete it). In this case, Panamint and the others are contest winners/participants which automatically makes them notable enough to be created.
After that check if you meet all the criteria on Help:Style guide/Maps, namely if the author, version, and download link are provided.
Once you've checked that out, its as simple as clicking the more button to the right of view history and selecting move. From there remove the "User:Fisherboy800" prefix (so it only leaves Panamint) and click move one final time. You should also add Template:Custom map if you haven't in order to apply the appropriate category (Although I see you already did that). Also make sure to move any files/templates that are still in your user space and are on the map article by doing the same thing (clicking move on them and removing the user prefix). I think this nicely covers everything. I will make sure to make the overviews tomorrow, though if you haven't moved the maps by then I will upload them with the prefix User:Fisherboy as with all non-mainspace content. Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 23:45, 1 November 2025 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21

Hi there,

When creating links, underscores are entirely unnecessary. For example, in your Sniper article edit you added the link Meet the Director but this link can easily be changed into Meet the Director. The end results is the same: Meet the Director versus Meet the Director. This saves an extra edit to the article by someone else.

Applejack Trivia

I don't think the trivia on Applejack is really an advertisement. It's more of a "This is who the sign/logo is referring to". A reference to a youtube channel is just a reference to a youtube channel. It's not an advertisement. The guideline is primarily intended to be for item creators hiding references to their other, non-tf2, works such as UEAKCrash hiding a URL for his band on a map or someone putting a QR code that links to their twitch or something similar. I don't think the applejack examples should be seen as advertising. For example Desk Engineer has this bit of trivia "This item's name is a play on the phrase "desk jockey", as well as a reference to YouTuber Doctor Lalve's reoccurring Tiny Desk Engineer character." and links to Doctor Lalve's Youtube. I don't see how the Aar and Quazies examples on Applejack are really any different. The guideline is not intended to be "You can't link to any youtube channels under any circumstances" it's mainly aimed at creators trying to do self inserts. I don't mind either way what happens, but the link to Quazies' YouTube is definitely not advertising. They are not a map creator, so their link is not advertisement but rather an informative link. The Aar one is a bit more of an edge case, where he isn't an explicitly-mentioned developer of the map but he is essentially there because he helped with the map's creation. In conclusion: The Quazies link should stay as it's not advertisement, but Aar's can be up for debate (though I don't particularly have a stance, either way is fine as I can see both reasons). Whatever the outcome ends up being, make sure to leave a hidden note for future editors.

I get what you mean by this. I am iffy on the YouTube logo trivia still though as its technically a form of their YouTube channel being directly placed in the map, but then again a random player would not see a random logo without context and understand it was an advertisement from first looking. My bad for not understanding the guidelines and causing this kerfuffle, I will be more careful in the future and revert it back to the way it was. Mediarch suggested in the IRC that we could replace it with the Steam profile instead. The picture itself is not necessarily his YouTube logo but just his character/OC, so it makes sense.

Could do that, sounds like a good compromise between linking relevant factors and not treading into the territory of advertising. If you gave me about an hour I could go find their steam user profiles, currently I am busy. Oh thanks, would you like me to replace both with Steam IDs or would you prefer Quazie's YouTube channel to remain a normal link? User Fisherboy800 Fisherboy.gifUser Fisherboy800 User Talk Page.gifUser Fisherboy800 Contributions.gif 20:42, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Just Aar's is fine.
