The Contest

The Art Pass Contest is a recent contest announced to the community on the TF2 Official Blog. It asks that players take a recent attack/defend map design created by Valve, texture it, and then submit it for the chance to have it included in the next major Team Fortress 2 update.

Guidlines and Deadline

Various guidelines and rules have been given, such as no advertisements, or anything that doesn't belong directly to the submitter without direct permission. The latest the map may be submitted is Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 11:00am UTC. A complete list of these guidelines can be viewed here: [1]

Prizes

The grand prize is the map's inclusion into TF2. Other prizes will likely be revealed at a later date.

Trivia

  • The scene parallels that of the Administrator and Miss Pauling in the WAR! Update comic.
  • Robin Walker can be viewed in this comic as a short-tempered blonde man, with an enormous large tower of hats, which continues off the page.
  • Corey Peters, an employee mentioned briefly in blog posts, makes an appearence as the employee who delivers the news of the missing map to Robin Walker.
  • A shady hacker, wearing a Fancy Fedora, is seen distributing a video of the map to Youtube.
  • Some Easter Eggs can been seen in the comic:
    • Corey Peters is wearing a shirt with the logo for Portal 2, an upcoming Valve game.
    • Robin is shown looking at the User hat checklist template, presumably for his wiki user page.
    • A copy of "Hat Wearing Man" can be seen on Robin's control panel.
    • There is a coffee cup stain on a button labeled Camera Beard. This is a reference to the alarming number of Camera Beard drops that occured after the WAR! Update, suggesting that someone had left a cup atop the button to cause the drops.
    • Another button depicting the Golden Wrench has been taped over, presumably to prevent any more from being awarded.
