Template talk:Jiggle bones

Necessary?

I think with the addition of so many minor jiggle bones into many cosmetics these days, it's easier to just link to Category:Jiggleboned instead. This saves a lot of upkeep and they have essentially the same purpose. A super long template like this also doesn't look nice and is a chore to scroll through. With a category it's easier due to alphabetical ordering.

Pictogram plus.png + Even back in 2013 the template already was pretty long and it's only gotten worse. While it's nice to have an image for each cosmetic directly available, it's just not worth the effort and noting the exact part of the cosmetic that is jiggleboned is superfluous as it's already on the cosmetic page itself. { TidB | t | c } 10:59, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Pictogram plus.png Support I must agree, it’s a nightmare to read due to the length. It would be better to just have the category. Calcium fiend (talk) 12:43, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Pictogram minus.png Oppose In terms of maintenance, I'd agree—but from a visual aspect, I'd disagree. We as wiki editors might not see it, but having a list with images that's easily accessible would be the most user-friendly approach rather than having readers go through a category as we wiki editors normally would. Evidently, I do not have any statistics on this, but I'm quite positive that no normal reader goes through any of our categories to find what they're looking for, nor would it be very appealing as the reader would have to look for the item of interest without any form of visual indication.
While the table itself might not be exactly pretty, users nowadays on the web are reliant on visuals for easier navigation. The table could also be improved as for the layout to make it more visually appealing. If we were to fixate on table management, then one could argue that all of the class cosmetic lists (which is a pain to update for older items) would be too complex to maintain, but that's not a reason for replacing it with a category as we would sacrifice the visuals over easier maintenance. What if we removed the notes and just listed the items with a table like the {{Assist items}} and {{Haunted quality table}} templates? - BrazilianNut (talk) 20:04, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, this will work.

+1 to BrazilianNut's proposal, as it's also what I had in mind when I mentioned improving the table layout. User Wookipan Golden Strawberry.png Wookipan (talk | contribs) 18:53, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, that looks good (though still a lot of maintenance, no way that can be automated I suppose?).
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:01, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
There probably is. It's the same case with the lists of class cosmetics, especially List of All class cosmetics, though we're kinda limited by MediaWiki here, so automating something like this could prove rather difficult. We'd likely need to develop our own extension. User Wookipan Golden Strawberry.png Wookipan (talk | contribs) 19:22, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Only thing I think is left to do is to change the order from alphabetical to chronological - while not necessary, it makes updating this table format much easier. - BrazilianNut (talk) 04:29, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

As I have suggested a few weeks ago, Extension:Cargo could help us manage such lists with little effort. — Tark lm(pt-br) 19:49, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I totally forgot you made that suggestion. Yep, that would indeed make maintenance easier. Also, the new table is good and will save lots of scrolling time compared to the old table length. Since the rest of the class cosmetic tables are in chronological order, let's keep it at that for the sake of consistency and easier maintenance. With this Cargo extension thing, we could also implement something similar for the "List of paintable ClassName items". Some of them are outdated, some of them are missing a few items, and a lot of them are not even in their alphabetical order. From a quick glance, Medic's paintable item table is missing a ton of recent item additions.
