Edit warring and disrespect to other users

The next time someone tells you to read the trivia guidelines, it's a good idea to do so instead of trying to fight it out because of something that only you believe. You wanted to discuss the trivia on the talk page, and were given two very lengthy counter-arguments, yet somehow you decided that returning to edit-warring rather than offering your own argument was the right decision, and then demanding that that user be blocked on top of that.

You can take the next week to reconsider your actions. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 14:57, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

I first want to know the reason in which I was blocked. LordKelvinblocked me without giving a reason. He also stated that I did not give a reason why I made edits to the article Syringe Gun, but I did (Talk: Syringe Gun). I followed the trivia guidelines, which every other user does. This is a sign that the admins on this wiki are incompetent, blocking people for no reason. Sausagea1000 (talk) 20:19, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

I can't speak for the admins' reasons for blocking, but what I personally believe is that hostility may be a main issue. Outright demanding that someone be blocked and constantly reverting edits without attempting to understand the viewpoint of the other editor can be grounds for blocking. From what I saw, your edits on the Syringe Gun page, even if there was reason behind the edit, were based on a speculative idea that the syringes were filled with poison. It's never been officially stated what they were filled with, at least not to my knowledge. ClockworkSpirit2343 Talk Page 23:49, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
{{Unblock|I have taken time out of my day to make an edit to make this wiki better and someone reverted it. What if you uploaded something like a scientfic work to the internet, someone said it was wrong and changed it. The Syringes are filled with poision or they would not be effective. This is not a fair block}}The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sausagea1000 (talk) • (contribs) 21:26, 2 May 2018‎ (UTC)
Remember, Sausagea1000, you were not blocked not the content of your trivia. You were blocked for edit warring. The accepted pattern is Bold, Revert, Discuss. The moment you reposted a reverted edit without accomplishing consensus in discussion, you broke that rule and you were warring. Blocking is normal for edit warring. You were, at the time, only blocked for a week, so, you had no need to request an unblock.
Look, my first edit was reverted. (Reason: "What terrible trivia."). It was a learning experience. The contract of the wiki is that any edit you make may be edited by anyone else.
Except for sincere tributes, Trivia is about the least important part of the wiki. "Nothing to get hung about, ... (1967)" MIKADO282 oOOOOo oo oo (talk) (To Do) 01:00, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Regarding your recent trivia addition

Hi Sausagea1000, your recent addition of trivia has been reverted because it did not meet our trivia guidelines. In short, trivia entries should...

  • ... be facts, not speculation.
  • ... be about the released content only.
  • ... not be obvious for somebody who has played Team Fortress 2 for a small amount of time.
  • ... make the reader say "Wow! I did not know that!"
  • ... not be information that belongs in other parts of the page.

For a full explanation including examples, check out our trivia style guide!

Oh. I thought that not many people knew that Engineer was the shortest class in the game so I added it. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sausagea1000 (talk) • (contribs) 18:52, 29 October 2020 (CDT)
At the risk of piling on I want to add some clarifications.
  • That a Class is shortest, tallest, fattest, baldest, etc is XofY, and so is not Trivia.
  • That Engineer is the shortest might be appropriate for the Class's description, but it is appropriate for discussion and comparison of Class mechanics, and the fact that Engineer is the shortest class is already mention in Class#Size. Mechanics are never Trivia and are misplaced when put in Trivia.
  • That all classes (except Engineer) have to squat to melee attack Teleporters (Eyelander, too?) is useful information; but, again, that is mechanics, not Trivia, and should be mentioned in the places where players need to know how to destroy Teleporters in melee (Pybros need to know this, too).

Trivia edits

Hi there,

I'd like to give you somewhat of a final "warning" regarding your trivia edits, you've been told several times to check out the Help:Style guide/Trivia. Please read it entirely, as many of your edits break the guidelines and you also add back your own trivia that has previously been undone (Sometimes a day before).
GrampaSwood (talk) 17:07, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

First of all I'd like to say that I learned my lesson from my first trivia edit which ended up on the wall of shame and my aggressive behaviour around it. It wasn't a good idea. Next, I would like to ask, why is XofY trivia against the rules? It's a bit of a strange rule in my opinion. Sausagea1000 (talk) 21:44, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Because it leads to a ton of trivia that's just uninteresting (Which could be argued as subjective), such as "This is the only map to feature a ghost train" for something like Megalo, or "This is one of 40 hats to feature a hidden message in its texture". I've lost the specific page, but there is a wiki page on the Smash Bros. wiki that features 99% X of Y trivia and it's all just comparing what the game has compared to other games.
GrampaSwood (talk) 23:10, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
XofY is also a maintenance mess. After 40 articles have "This is one of 40 hats to feature a hidden message in its texture" (half of which maybe have "one of 37", anyway), Valve drops two more. M I K A D O 282 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃 🦃🦃 🦃🦃(talk) (Help Wanted!) 04:18, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
And while on the subject, facts like "Engineer is the shortest character." aren't just XofY, but also are mechanics. This is because the fact is in part driven by the also "XofY" fact that "Engineer is the only class that can repair/speed up a building by swinging at it.", meaning that it would be really inconvenient to have to always crouch to do your one job with respect to Teleporters. This is in the same vein as "Demoman is the only charging class." or "Spy is the only backstabbing class." That is, the fact is relatively important game design that players should know, and should be covered the body of a well-written page, not misplaced in Trivia. Do Pyros need to crouch to remove Sappers? Then that would be misplaced as Trivia if true (IIRC). Also, it is not absolutely true that only the Engineer can reach a tele without crouching, since the Eyelander et al can reach a Teleporter without crouching. IIUC, though, some of this can work as DYK, if it hasn't been posted there already. M I K A D O 282 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃 🦃🦃 🦃🦃(talk) (Help Wanted!) 13:55, 17 November 2020 (UTC) 14:04, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Trivia

Honestly, I would avoid making trivia edits altogether. Most of what you've put isn't trivia at all and doesn't follow the trivia guidelines, or is basic observations. Please stop making edits like this. Thank you. -- Boba 05:26, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Trivia ... and bugs

"Engineer Robots can pick up the bomb, ..."

There is a reason I wrote "Often, a new editor has a problem of not knowing where or how to add something to a page and thinks, "I know, I'll add it to Trivia." Now, they have two problems." It is so true, and you are esperiencing it. Never put information in Trivia or Bugs until you have looked through the rest of the article and all resonably realated articles to see if it belongs elsewhere and is not already there.

"Sometimes player's won't gib when they should."

It is just basic TF2 game knowledge, that not every attack gibs, and not every gib makes any sense at all and it never has to.

"... may be based ... " "These may be ...."

That always means that the poster is speculating. Speculations are anoying and will always be removed. Learn when you are speculating, it is a repeated mistake.

"may be" == speculation

But not "may be" means that there must be reasonable evidence.

Seriously, add me to chat about this.

Map pages

Hi there,

Please take a look at the Map style guide before making map pages, making a page that's just a stub + 1 line is not a proper map page. This is your final warning, read the guidelines before making a page about it. We do not want to clean up every edit you make here over and over again.
GrampaSwood (talk) 18:43, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Besides the Style Guide, I just look at existing pages for examples and try to follow their formats. It is very clear from the examples that the word Millstone should have been bolded. It is especially important to study the source of existing pages.
Add me if you want PM support on these edits. M I K A D O 282 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃 🦃🦃 🦃🦃(talk) (Help Wanted!) 02:25, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
