Just a quick appreciation post
I'm relatively new to the Wiki, and I made it here to pretty much translate all things TF2. Prior to this I translated Team Fortress 2 Classic (as swfcapslock) and Pre-Fortress 2 (not credited yet, localization will be implemented in the next update), and I enjoyed every second of contributing to those projects with my Turkish localization file. So after finding out what I can do in this website, I felt like I just found myself a gold mine.
Even though translating things are so fun, I often mess things up, whether that be me missing out on things to translate under the large, spooky jumbles of formatting text, or ruining something while trying to do something with that same text. I have never used any kind of wikia page, and I have pretty much zero prior experience with those. But it's all thanks to people like you that make it a fun, learning experience where I can also get to meet new people in return. Thank you for the stuff you helped pointing out to me thus far, and I hope to see you again. Swiffie (talk) 21:40, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Swiffie.
- Thank you for the kind message! Nice to know you're enjoying editing the wiki, and I'm glad I've been able to help.
- Do not worry about making mistakes - the "edit" and "undo" buttons will always be there.
- Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 13:57, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks always for fixing my edits.
I have seen you fixing minor errors on my (and others') edits. Unfortunately, most of those documents I try to update these days have not been updated since 2015 ~ 2018-ish, which means their template usages are severely outdated, and you might need to keep fixing those. I'll try to imitate your fixes, but it would take some time to fully learn those. If you let me know what to fix with examples here or on my talk page, that would be grateful. Have a nice day!

Revision Question
Hey, I wanted to ask you a question, I'm pretty new here so I may not know how these things work. As I translated the Swiftwater and the Meet Your Match Video pages I noticed that your name appeared on the edit log too. Is that like some kind of check if I made my work correctly? Just asking because as I already told you I'm new and I dunno how things work here lol. Bye! TheRealLawreV2 (talk) 21:27, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hey there.
- If you mean that you received an alert about my edits, then it's because you left "Watch this page" checked, so you'll be alerted whenever people edit those pages.
- If you just mean that my name is in the revision history, that's simply because all edits are recorded there; all pages have a revision history where changes are recorded and can be seen, as well as the previous versions of that page.
- Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 07:02, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- PS: You can edit your watchlist by clicking Preferences on the top right, then selecting Watchlist > View and remove titles on your watchlist.
I finally found out, the edit log shows a single edit if a page is edited in little time more than twice and therefore listed your name along mine in what it seemed to me a single edit, but was like 4 edits packed in one. Thanks and bye!

A little question with the use of { { itemlink}}
Hi there,
A recent edit of yours revert my changes with "Flying Guillotine". Here's the problem, you see , I just join wiki for about 5 days and I kinda learn things through other editor's improvment edit for my edit, somedays ago a editor done the exact same thing to one of the pages I translate "Banana/zh-hans ", so I just thought Its a better kind of link use it instead of [[]] = cool .Now I'm kinda confused, to me its the same ,they are just links to other pages , can you tell me sth about the use of { { itemlink}} and how its different with a redirect link?
Profiteer(奸商) (talk) 08:03, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there, we suggest the use of the string
{{item link|ENGLISH NAME}}
, when translating item names with links..
- Using the Spanish (
/es
) section as an example:- If you use
{{item link|Buff Banner}}
, the wiki will automatically translate the name into Estandarte de Ánimo.- But if you want to translate just the text name, you can use
{{item name|ENGLISH NAME}}
.
- But if you want to translate just the text name, you can use
- If you use
- Same rule applies for updates:
{{update link|ENGLISH NAME}}
{{update name|ENGLISH NAME}}
- It is encouraged for users to use that string, because sometimes the names change.
- Using a case study that happened with the Spanish localization as an example:
- Backburner, used to be called El Dragón, but was later changed to El Tuestalomos in an unknown patch date.
- Market Gardener, used to be called El Jardinero, but was later changed to El Hortelano in the August 11, 2022 Patch.
- With the string, if any future changes happen, instead of manually updating who knows how many articles, simply we can just change the dictionary once, and the syntax automatically changes all the old names.
- Hope this helps!
acknowledged!
Profiteer(奸商) (talk) 09:53, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Profiteer.
- Translation templates such as
{{item link}}
are generally not used in English pages because English is already the root language, and so there's nothing to translate on them.
- The exceptions are mostly tables and when there are several links and/or names together (such as patch notes and lengthy disambiguation pages), which is done to make translating and updating localized articles easier (a simple copy and paste does the job).
- I hope that helps. Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 12:58, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Asking about a recent edit
Hey BrazilianNut. I got my edit undo'd by you a few minutes ago. I'm new to the wiki and it could really help me out to tell me what I did wrong in my edit. I'm not mad, I just want to know why.
Alexander (talk) 19:22, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there,
- Please note that every edit undo has an edit summary that explains why something was removed. Your Trivia got removed because it was about a Whoopee Cushion, which is not related to the Whoopee Cap besides both containing "whoopee" in the name.
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Removal of quotation
Hey. Why did you removed the quotation from Breach and Bomb and other translated pages? Denied (Talk) 15:14, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- Because it did not match the cosmetic. I originally thought it was a helmet used for defusing bombs, but upon better inspecting the item and understanding its name, I realized that was not the case - it's not about breaching a place to defuse a bomb, it's about breaching and bombing a place. Its basis, the K6-3 helmet, further reinforces this, as it is "used by Russian special police and anti-terror forces" (Breach and Bomb's Trivia), not by bomb squads.
- In either case, it was flavor text, so nothing important was removed. - BrazilianNut (talk) 20:58, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

talk section and new item translation
i've been trying to reach out to you and i have also seen this talk page but i thought to myself there is just no way that you have to write to a whole page in order to communicate with someone like in mid 2000's facebook there should be another way, but no you actually have to write to someone's wall apparently
anyway thanks for the heads up about the display title and stuff but i have a question and i would be very grateful if you answer it, how do you add translations for the new items hats etc.., i could able to add translations for the war paints on dictionary/decorations but couldn't do the same thing for items because dictionary/common strings page is locked for some reason
alperderman (talk) 07:00, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- When a topic is created on your talk page, you should reply by editing the topic and typing your response there, so the conversation is kept in the same page and there's no need to check multiple ones to keep track of it.
- Item names are stored in dictionary/items, not /common strings. It is possible you can't edit some pages because your account is new as a way to prevent vandalism of important wiki assets.
- If you wish to add translations to the dictionary, make sure to add the official ones; do not create translated names on your own. Also, if you use translation tools such as
{{item name}}
and{{update link}}
, then the articles will be automatically updated once the translations have been added. - BrazilianNut (talk) 07:33, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Question about a link
Hello! I am trying to translate the Grappling Hook page in romanian. As per the comments I recieved on my last translations I'm using {{}} links instead of [[]] links so that I no longer have to specify the language I'm using. For some reason however the Gunslinger is not creating a link using this method despite it working for every other weapon. Gunslinger is what I'm using. The page exists in romanian and even if it didn't a red link would be created. Is this link missing from the wiki page these tipes of links draw from and if it is what can I do to fix that? I can easily solve this by using Gunslinger but I would like to keep the links the same way. Also thank you for your help in showing me the guidelines --Lord of Dominating (talk) 15:00, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
- Update I figured out what was wrong. I was using 'item name' instead of 'item link'. -- Lord of Dominating (talk) 15:17, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
- Glad to know you solved it. Keep it up. 👍 - BrazilianNut (talk) 15:21, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Question about a patch
I have a small question about the 6|28|2011 patch for the Persian Persuader. I don't understand what the patch actually did so I don't know how to translate it. This is the patch in question: 'Added/Refined recoil/draw/crit/reload forces for the Persian Persuader.' Was the strenght of this weapon's recoil increased or was the animation changed? Or was it something else entirely. Thanks for the help--Lord of Dominating (talk) 08:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

About the word "cosmetic"
Hello! Thank you for helping me with my recently translated pages by fixing my mistakes. I wanted to say though, that while the word cosmetic exists in romanian, it refers only to skin care and products related to skin care so I can't translate "cosmetic item" as "obiect cosmetic". What should I use in place of this, if the romanian word for "hat" is not allowed? -Lord of Dominating (talk) 23:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- It's not that "hat" is not allowed, it's just that TF2 no longer separates "hats" from "miscs" - they are all cosmetic items now, which the last Romanian contributor on the wiki used to translate as "obiet cosmetic".
- Looking at tf_romanian.txt, I see now that they are usually called "accessories" in Romanian (TF_Wearable_CosmeticItem, TF_Summer2014_Level1_Desc, TF_Bundle_LW_Cosmetics_Desc), although "obiet cosmetic" is also used (TF_StrangePart_KillcamTaunts_Desc, ClassLoadoutTauntsExplanation_Text). - BrazilianNut (talk) 00:12, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll start using "accesorii" to refer to cosmetics going forward. Thanks for looking into it -Lord of Dominating (talk) 00:18, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Regarding item infoboxes
Hi, I have noticed you split the info in the "released" into "released" and "released-major" for the Force-A-Nature/de. I have not seen this being done for any page yet including the english version. Is this something that should be done for all the non-english pages or maybe also the english ones? I am currently updating every single weapon in the wiki and could implement this standard so that future updates on these pages are much more simpler and it is easier to see standards like this. Thanks for your time! CampeR (talk) 09:17, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- It's a new parameter, so old pages don't have it. You can add it to old and new pages, both in English and in other languages. - BrazilianNut (talk) 11:00, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Help request regarding itembox LUT
Hello again, I am currently building a LUT for some basic itembox vocabular and I was wondering if you can help me verify some of the translations based on your proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish. Could you please have a look at the LUT and double check the es and pt-br row for me? Thank you very very much in advance for your help! CampeR (talk) 11:18, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- They are mostly correct. The changes you'll have to make are:
- Change the "a" to "o" at the end of some words ("Oxidada" → "Oxidado", "Enferrujada" → "Enferrujado", etc.) for ES, IT, PT, and PT-BR.
- Add "de " before "Austrálio" ("de Austrálio") for ES, PT, and PT-BR, and "di " ("di Australium") for IT.
- - BrazilianNut (talk) 15:41, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Understood, thank you so so much! I have changed the ending according to your feedback. I am unsure what you meant by "some words" so I actually just edit them all. I know from the hungarian language that that context still might change depending on other factors. Could you please double check that my changes made it correct now? CampeR (talk) 19:15, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- It seems all that's left is IT's "Arrugginita" and "Argentata". Also, sorry if I wasn't very clear. - BrazilianNut (talk) 05:10, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Regarding your edit on "Prohibition Opposition/de"
You changed the direct link for the Brimmed Bootlegger to the item link. While I agree that this should be the standard and way to go, for this item it does not translate the item correclty. That's why I opted to use the direct link with the manual translation. Is there a way for me to translate the item link translation, is that maybe even something I have to do? I unfortunately have not found anything on the german translation help page. I am so sorry for spamming down your talk page, but I am really wondering how to best approach this.
CampeR (talk) 19:15, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
- Item names are stored in the items dictionary; if a name is missing, just edit the respective section and add it there.
- Don't worry about leaving messages on my talk page - that's what it is here for. =) - BrazilianNut (talk) 21:55, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Steam Workshop translated
Up until now I left "Steam Workshop" untranslated but it actually has an official translation: "Atelierul Steam". I know you keep watch over Romanian articles, so in the future if you find Steam Workshop left untranslated please change it to this. regarding 'shortness of breath' trivia
hi, im very new to wiki contributions as a whole so forgive me if anything i say sounds silly. i was unable to find a citation for my contribution so im wondering if a change in semantics would get rid of the need for any, specifically rewording it from a "reference" to it simply "resembling" the irl gas mask and relating that to the ones seen on hecu soldiers. thanks in advance :3
Elisttm (talk) 04:08, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Elisttm, happy to know you are contributing to the Wiki. One importan thing about the trivia by itself is to provide evidence. How to? well, you need confirmation from the creator(s) of the item, otherwise your edits will be remove. We can' accept a "it resembles" or "looks like" if you can't give proof of it directly from the developer of say item.

Calamitous Cauldron
This time I reverted your removal without leaving a message at least first sorry, but also I believe it's considerate to those with poor awareness and/or internet connection to explain the changes. At least I think there should be a few words for such items (e.g.this item's paint regions change on style").-- Akolyth (talk) 22:00, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Mention of paintable areas is only done if an item has different styles meant solely to paint alternative sections of the item, with little to no difference between them. Examples are the Glow from Below and the Festive Rack. The Calamitous Cauldron is not such a case, as its styles change the appearance of the item by adding or removing a certain element to or from it. Its paintable areas are also a hard thing to miss, as the "No Slime" style paints the entirety of the item - simply alternating between the tabs makes the different areas obvious, specially with bright-colored paints like Australium Gold and Pink as Hell.
- This is a standard of this wiki, not exclusive to this one item. If this item was to have mentions of the paintable areas, then all paintable items should have them, otherwise it falls into subjective selection (you seem to think it's hard to notice the difference in paintability between the Calamitous Cauldron's styles, while I think it's obvious). - BrazilianNut (talk) 08:57, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Paintability has also been removed from intro paragraphs, so I agree with BrazilianNut that it should only be mentioned if the entire style's purpose is to change paint region.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 17:59, 14 November 2023 (UTC)- Just saw this, but I appreciate the thoughtful responses from both, thank you. I understand it's important to avoid redundancy... I still believe that there should be a short generic text string then somewhere above the template like "this item's paint regions change on style" even for more obvious items (FWIW I am kind of cow-headed and didn't notice the template for a bit haha, like you have to notice the style text in the orange bar then click it, but again, I'm oblivious), but it doesn't matter, in any case I'll just revert what I added.-- Akolyth (talk) 18:09, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
