Ordering by promotion date?

Should we re-order this template based on the dates of the promotions, as opposed to alphabetical order? I feel that sorting it by promotion date would give it a better feel. --LordKelvin 20:22, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Syntax for Noise Makers

At the moment, the noise makers have links that look like

[[Noise_Maker#Shogun_Pack{{if lang}}]]

This isn't correct. Looking at a Russian weapons page, that link is re-written to point to be

This is obviously incorrect, as the actual page and section are:

I don't know deep wiki magic, so I don't know how to fix this properly - So could someone come up with some method of making this Just Work? - I was thinking that adding the English section names to the sections on translated pages would make work, but I'm not sure if it makes sense. SkUrRiEr 10:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Solution is easy. Just point to pages with pre-made redirects. DrAkcel (T | C) 10:12, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Alphabetization of The

Games with "the" at the head of the title are listed under "T"? Is this on purpose or just how whoever added the titles threw them in? That breaks most title alphabetizing conventions; not even weapons are listed as such. — C2Talon (c/t) 12:00, 25 November 2011 (PST)

Steam Gift Pile hats

Could someone add the Gift Pile prize hats (B.M.O.C., Holiday Headcase and Ebenezer)) to this? I'm clueless with tables and I just break it every time I try to fit these in, and I don't know what we should be calling the event anyway (I don't think there's a page like with the Summer Sale). Comic-Con 2012 promos?

Dunno if we should add the Sandvich Box and Companion Square Box, since they unboxed and are now the badge and the robo-sandvich... Scoot-teh-Destroyer 17:18, 22 September 2012 (PDT)

Hitman: Absolution No common string?

I did add Hitman Absolution to the template, but i couldnt add common string like all other games, any idea why? PosiTiv3Z!* 11:25, 18 November 2012 (PST)

I had a sudden burst of illiteracy and screwed up adding Hitman to the common strings list, and later fixed it. You must've tried to add it before I fixed it, apologies. I just plopped it in for ye, also moved this down to the right spot. c: Killicon bushwacka.pngCobalt 11:56, 18 November 2012 (PST)

Manage the template?

I think we should do something to this template due the large size of navigate bar. Should we split it to 3? (Weapon, Hat and Misc) User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 16:25, 26 February 2013 (PST)

Merge L4D2 Groups

I suggest in merging both Left 4 Dead 2 and Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice groups, not only that both groups are literally speaking of the same game, both links redirects to the same L4D2 article. Moreover, for new and unfamiliar players, it'll be easier for them to know that the Bill's Hat, Ellis' Cap and Frying Pan, are from the same game.

What do you guys think? Yossef | Talk | Contributions 11:42, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

I support the idea, I think this would be better. Current setting seem too far apart, being from the same game.--Ryo (talk) 17:16, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't really see any reason why it should be separated. How to obtain said items is already explained on their pages, and The Sacrifice is not even a separate DLC, like in other games. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 19:09, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Condensing Community MVM Operation Medals

I've tested condensing the community MVM operation medals down, to reduce template size, and perhaps improve readability, as more medals continue to be added for new operations; however, as you can see from the source code in my sandbox page, it's a little more complicated on the condensed table than it is on the current one -- users would have to supply their own language strings for each medal, I think, rather than relying solely on automated item links to fill in the names for us, unless there's a way to automate that which I haven't thought of.

What are our thoughts? Stick with the current format, or condense it down to just listing each operation's name once? As this is specifically a listing of different promotional items, I'd at least like to continue to specify which medals are from which operation; I'm trying to see if there's a way I can clean this up, while still managing to do that. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 12:32, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

I think a condensed look is better, but if it needs a separate string for each language it's probably best to find another solution (or find some fix for this). I propose we link to the reward section of each Operation page instead of having 3-4 links to that section under different names. They all already link to that section anyway.

Did another test to see if a nav with icons would help convey things better and space them out a little cleaner. In the case of community MVM medals, Swood wanted me to only link once to an operation's reward page, that's impossible with this method, as the {{icon item}} template has baked-in links to the item that the icon is for. He also said he wanted a distinction for custom painted medals, because it's "misleading" to claim that they aren't just entirely re-used medals otherwise, so I've added a paint splat to them.
In the future, perhaps community medals can be a separate page, like Tournament Medals are already. I'm not working on this anymore until I get a go-ahead, though. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 03:20, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Really liking this last one - very condensed, looks good, and has little translatable text. - BrazilianNut (talk) 17:21, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
I also agree that the one with the icons is good, much easier to read than the current one.
