Metal is a resource unique to the Engineer in Team Fortress Classic and is used in the construction, upgrade, and repair of buildings. The Engineer spawns with 200 Metal, which is the maximum amount that can be collected. Metal is dropped by players when killed, and can also be acquired from Backpacks, Armor, destroyed buildings, and Dispensers.

  • The Sentry Gun costs the Engineer 130 metal to build and 130 metal to upgrade at each level.
  • The Dispenser costs 100 metal to build.
  • The Teleporter entrance/exit each cost 125 metal to build.

All buildings do different things, such as the Sentry Gun firing at enemies, the Dispenser healing and giving metal, and the Teleporter taking teammates from the entrance to the exit.
