- Looks good, though, replace the "Soldier" to look like the new font you're using it. There are some info about Fonts here: Fonts. I actually wanted to translated comics before I started doing images, but I haven't found any good font to be used. ▪ - 18:31, 17 January 2015 (PST)

SillyPingwins | Wikichievement unlocked! For uploading MANY images & mastering HLMV, updating the "style consistency" of MANY pages including the infobox of other languages, creating the useful Operation Cleanup, translating the pt-br section of the wiki, updating some templates including the dictionnary, editing english pages (bugs, unused content...). |
- Wow, I wasn't expecting this. Honestly, I haven't created the Operation Cleanup or even checked that much, I only saw the pages being inconsistent with others and did by my own. Thanks! (P.S.: If you wish to change the description about the Operation Cleanup, go ahead, I'll add to my page after you're done with or after you comment here). ▪ - 06:43, 23 February 2015 (PST)

I've been refusing all your comments on redos for demonstration videos lately, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate the fact that you actively check for these consistency errors and small fixes like that in the first place. There isn't a good section to say that on the review page so I'm posting on your talk page instead. Anyway, thanks~ — Wind 20:43, 5 April 2015 (PDT)
- No problem, I still need finish the Style ones, and then the last one, is to add community-created on old promotional items that had a community contribution, for example, Pocket Raiders has "community-created promotional cosmetic item", while Deus Specs doesn't. Eh, most of my suggestions on the demonstration were minor things, I don't mind really. Also, can you check my discussion on the TF2 Discussion about how the taunts should be categorized here? Original/Translations for Vaccinator HUD image
Hello Gabrielwoj, I was checking HUD images to translate and saw you made the ones for the Vaccinator. Do you have the originals or could you create Brazilian Portuguese ones? Thanks! (Also, I don't know how/where to post this, but it would be nice to have a project where all graphs and HUD elements had their source/editable files posted somewhere so we could translate them easily instead of the gambiarras I had to do back in 2011) – Berna.leao (talk) 10:51, 5 May 2015 (PDT)
- I have the files here, but I only took for English. I guess I can do for PT-BR some day and for other languages too. The only issue is that take quite an effort to make those, especially that you need to restart Steam every single time when switching languages. I'll upload and warn you whatever I get a chance, I'll even update the Vaccinator/pt-br page when the images are done. ▪ - 10:58, 5 May 2015 (PDT)
- Oh, I thought you created those images manually (getting the VTFs and using an image editor). Nevermind then, I'll do it later. Berna.leao (talk) 11:22, 5 May 2015 (PDT)

HLMV issue with HWM models
Good day, sir! Can i ask you about hlmv? I tried to pose hwm model in hlmv(from source filmmaker) and didn't find new sequences from last patch. Everything is ok for you or you added new animations by hand? Thanks in advance! (/) 17:04, 3 July 2015 (PDT)
- Try using the TF2 version of HLMV (Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\bin\hlmv.exe). For me, the sequences work just fine, so it may be something wrong from the SFM's version. ▪ - 17:14, 3 July 2015 (PDT)

- Well, I don't know EXACTLY how, but I know it needs to have two images for do it and them merge them. I thought a way of opening the 3D Model program together with a program that takes screenshots, and then I would make them properly transparent and fit them on the "bad" picture. Or, if there's another way to FORCE the 3D Images program to export the White/Black Backgrounds to another folder would be great. If you have another way to do it, feel free to, but I was thinking on doing this method I just said. ▪ - 11:23, 8 October 2015 (PDT)

So it's transparent like jarate? If so, you take two sets of images, one with transparency over white BG, one with no transparency over white BG. Then stitch the two in your favorite image-processing program. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 11:37, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- The problem is that the model has two parts. One is the RED/BLU glow that is $additive and the other is the white part in the center of it which is also $additive (File:RED Batsaber.png). How exactly I'm going to do I don't know, since the white part is bothering me with the image process, as well, when I did the "white part only" screenshots, it was a bit smaller (due the white part is more at center of the model), so I couldn't merge with the RED area. ▪ - 11:44, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- So it's like the vaccinator, then. I had to manually offset those images when I combined them. I can take a more direct look if you'd like, it'll take me a bit to get hlmv installed though. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 11:50, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- No rush for now. I'll try my method of doing the separate pics and them merging. It could be great also for updating some of the already-made pictures (Jarate without the weird glass texture, for example). But thanks. Also, Darkid, are you good with Template editing? ▪ - 11:54, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- Yes, what do you need? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 12:06, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- I was thinking on a more complex "Decorated" weapon table, which has team-color switcher, grade switcher (already implemented), Stat-Track Adder and to view on First-Person View (both teams as well), and another button that plays the "inspect" weapon animation upon clicking it (getting the screenshots via "Animget" progrma to get perfect quality frames and then merging on GIMP, with the same Width and Height of the image with no animation), I can do a mock-up later of how it could be. This is completely possible, Baldrus Tod, the guy who created loadout.tf, is making "weapons.tf", a website that you can test Decorated Weapon combinations and even export to a working texture. Right now it's in beta, but he allowed me to use for Wiki purposes. I agree that this would take quite a while, but it would look superb on the page. I don't think we need 3D Images for the Decorated weapons for now, as they're too many, I think shots of them is good enough, along with the other stuff I mentioned. What do you think? ▪ - 12:41, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- I'm wary for the same reason we don't 3d-model hats, it's a huge amount of work. If you can automate it _entirely_, and I can help with that, then it's possible. As for the template, yes I'd need a mockup before I can start writing it. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 11:33, 13 October 2015 (PDT)
- Yes. The only one that would take more time would be the animations, since I need to merge the images all into one, and there's three animations (one for start, middle and end). The rest aren't too difficult. The only issue, is that weapons.tf is currently very unstable (it's in beta). I had several crashes and couldn't export a lot of the textures (due the website hang up when I didn't wanted). Maybe the animation tab could be removed, due the amount of work, but the First-Person view (static image) is entirely possible. I was thinking that, the animations could be on the Gallery part showing how each weapon-per-class animates, so it doesn't need to make in every skin and grade possible. Same thing would go with Unusuals (weapons.tf also attaches Weapon Unusual Effects). I'll be doing the mock-up soon, but, I think it's good making as a new template, so it doesn't replace the new one, as I don't know when weapons.tf is going to be stable for this work. ▪ - 06:50, 14 October 2015 (PDT)

If you're picturing 3d images and animation, I've no clue if that's possible. If you're looking for the selection model of the 3d images, that takes CSS code. Anything else is easy. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 07:12, 14 October 2015 (PDT)
- But no 3D images will be made. The template would be for the Decorated Page only (and for the related weapons, a small table showing each of the skinned counterparts would work too). The animation is for the "inspect" animation, but I'll only do few examples to put on the gallery below, and not on the table. ▪ - 07:26, 14 October 2015 (PDT)
confused about something
is there a reason you added Weapon Grades to the infoboxes of the Gun Mettle cosmetics on their respective pages? it kinda contradicts what the wiki says about weapon grades, namely that they "only apply to decorated weapons, and are not applied to other item or quality types." -- Kincyr (talk) 16:10, 10 September 2015 (PDT)
- Just thinking but, the new cosmetics have rarities grades, so that's the reason. And cosmetics don't have this quality, so this info is not relevant for them. — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him! ▪ Contribs} 18:29, 10 September 2015 (PDT)
- huh, so they do. it turns out my confusion was because the Steam Community Market doesn't factor the grade of the cosmetics into the search engine when you search by grade. -- Kincyr (talk) 18:46, 10 September 2015 (PDT)
- Hmm the SCM works fine for me, just try search the grade with the unique quality or cosmetic filter. (Without the decorated qual)— The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him! ▪ Contribs} 19:01, 10 September 2015 (PDT)
- There are barely any editors on the Wiki as it used to be, there's a lot of outdated stuff and people, including me, focuses on updating other important things. I was planing to change the information, but I haven't done yet. Everyone with an account can edit, so you can edit as well. I added the grades because it would take months for someone to make a template that appears on the infobox, so I just did like that, the only thing that is the Weapon Grades is outdated, maybe move the page to "item rarity", as it was previously. ▪ - 19:37, 10 September 2015 (PDT)

Learning how to use HLMV
Hey Gabrielwoj. I don't know if you'll read this, but I've been working on learning how to use HLMV so I can create the class images for items. The part that is giving me a headache the most is the backgrounds. I can't make it transparent, and it won't let me load custom textures. What should I do? --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 13:28, 5 October 2015 (PDT)
- Put them on the custom folder, just like you would put a custom mod onto TF2. For making backgrounds, screenshot shot one picture with a white background and another with black, then do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJFSYsPjd9Y - You don't need to grow like I did, forget that part and proceed with the path part instead. ▪ - 19:56, 6 October 2015 (PDT)
- So THAT'S how it's done... wow, that makes things so much easier for me. I used to just go around the pictures, shift-clicking with the eraser. Thank you so much. 12:50, 12 October 2015 (PDT)
- Thank you sir. Good to see you not kill. I'm gonna have my work cut out now that Invasion is finally here.
Ayy lmao. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2015 (PDT)
- I never said I wasn't "kill". I'm just taking a break of the Wiki. And I'm usually busy on College, and when I have free time, I play something. ▪ - 20:06, 6 October 2015 (PDT)
- It's a bad joke I do with my friends since we love montage parodies. By the way, thanks for the advise for the future images. I took some new ones of the weapons and wanted to know how they looked.
- I never said I wasn't "kill". I'm just taking a break of the Wiki. And I'm usually busy on College, and when I have free time, I play something. ▪ - 20:06, 6 October 2015 (PDT)
- How do they look? An improvement? --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 19:15, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- They're good enough for now, but I noticed that they're too small and they aren't anti-alised (I noticed you just made in one color and removed with Magic Wand, since the items aren't transparent (The Giger Counter, for instance, should have the RED/BLU lighting fading)). If you're doing the Black/White background method, then, your HLMV might not applying the anti-alias. If you use TFMV, you can apply the option "Force HLMV anti-alias". You can simply use TFMV and load another model instead, but, careful, I noticed an issue with Sniper while using TFMV, his left "eye lid" was closed, and his facial flexes were all corrupted, or, check your dxsupport.cfg again. You may also need to configure some stuff on your Nvidia or ATI settings for specific programs (there's options for anti-alias and such). Though, be careful while enabling the "Full performance and quality (something like this)", as it triggers the Gray Eye issue with it. I'll re-make those if you don't mind, I'll replace some of the pics tomorrow. Please ask any other help if needed. ▪ - 19:54, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- I thought I had Forced Anti-Aliasing on. Oh well. Yeah I am using TFMV as it's the only way I can capture in PNG. Also, this is kinda embarrassing, but I don't have Nvidia or ATI settings as I'm running on a toaster in Intel Integrated Graphics. Any you don't feel I did up to snuff feel free to replace. I'm just trying my best to do the best job I can to make a good impression. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 20:00, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- You can use Print-Screen, which I advise you to do so. Using Windows + Print Screen saves a screenshot to your Photos folder. My computer also has Intel, and it works just fine (It's Intel with ATI, it's weird). Meh, it looks good, better than nothing. Someday when I leave the Wiki for a long time, you can work on these as well the other guy below, but sure, if you want to only. 3D Images are difficult, so I'll do these. ▪ - 20:12, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- I'm just doing any job I can. I want to make a good impression now that I'm nominated. (Plus it gets boring repairing old custom map pages.) --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 20:17, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- It's alright, thanks for doing these. ▪ - 20:46, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Thanks man. I hope the staff votes yes. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 20:51, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Well, uhm, since we're off-topic, I think your nomination was kinda too early. I'm not saying you haven't done a good job, but you're here just few months ago (8 June 2015). I'm not going to vote negative, but I'll wait a while until I decide when I'm going to vote. I'm happy with you being nominated, but early nominations sometimes are kinda difficult to handle and a lot of times causes "Negative" votes to appear. I need to check your contributions first, haven't been on this Wiki for a while now. ▪ - 21:07, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- I know my chances are probably slim, but I'm still optimistic nonetheless.
- While we're off topic, that reminds me. Tark wanted to speak with you. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 21:24, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Well, he can talk it here. I ignored his Friend Request. ▪ - 05:32, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- Okay, my next question is how to do those first person views for the weapons. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 15:58, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- Load the "c_class_arms.mdl" (located at:
weapons/c_models/
, after doing that. Load the weapon using "Load Weapon" option above. Go on Options and activate the "Viewmodel Mode". Set the FOV to "54" (Default), when you type on FOV, the "BoneWeights" texture appears, switch to texture again (just switch back and forth with something else). On the "Sequence" tab, you can change the animations. Hope it helps. ▪ - 19:31, 8 October 2015 (PDT)- Two more questions then I'm done. 1. How do I change the item's team orientation and/or color, and 2. How do I add new items into TFMV so it recognizes them? --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 19:55, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- 1. You need extract the Item's BLU .vmt to the correct folders (place on your custom folder) and rename it as a "red" material, so it will load the blue material instead. That's the only way to do it. 2. Just click in other item's checkboxes on TFMV, there are a limitation of 10, I think. Or, after loading HLMV through TFMV, you can use (Steam) Load Weapon menu as well. ▪ - 20:32, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- I think I'm doing the extraction wrong. At the moment it looks like I can only do the RED version. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 10:24, 9 October 2015 (PDT)

- Well, he can talk it here. I ignored his Friend Request. ▪ - 05:32, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- Thanks man. I hope the staff votes yes. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 20:51, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- It's alright, thanks for doing these. ▪ - 20:46, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- I'm just doing any job I can. I want to make a good impression now that I'm nominated. (Plus it gets boring repairing old custom map pages.) --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 20:17, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- How do they look? An improvement? --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 19:15, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Open GCFScape;
- Open tf2_misc_dir.vpk (located at Steam->Steamapps->Common-Team Fortress 2->tf);
- Go to
root->materials->models->workshop->player->items->all_class->brotherhood_2
; - Extract the
brotherhood_2_blue.vmt
toSteam/steamapps/Common/Team Fortress 2/tf/custom/my custom files/materials/models/player/items/all_class/brotherhood_2
; - Rename the
brotherhood_2_blue.vmt
tobrotherhood_2.vmt
, and load it on HLMV; - Load the cosmetic onto your class and switch the class Skin on HLMV. You're good to go. ▪ - 11:16, 9 October 2015 (PDT)
- In-case of the Batsaber, you'll need to rename both the laser and the bat materials, since the Laser and the "Weapon Holder" have different materials/textures. And also, you've made the Batsaber image with the "All_Class" animation, so it's holding differently than in-game. Choose "b_idle" sequence instead. ▪ - 11:24, 9 October 2015 (PDT)
- Is there a way to stop jigglebone objects (Like flying mascots) from moving? --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 13:31, 12 October 2015 (PDT)
- I don't know. I've heard if you decompile and recompile the model, the jiggles are gone. Another way you can do it is by pressing F5 and holding the Window's border, so it will freeze HLMV and you can print screen it. It's a bit finger-breaking, but it worked for me. It was a matter of trial and error, because I've got some different poses between the white and black background shots. ▪ - 14:01, 12 October 2015 (PDT)

TF2TIP
Hey there. On one of my images that you reverted, you said it looked like I used "TF2TIP"? What is it and how do I make it not use that? I've only used ordinary HLMV without any additions except increasing the graphics settings. Bojjob 05:45, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- It's called the "Team Fortress 2 Texture Improvement Project", it makes the textures more cleaner and fixes some issues, as well making the base colors more saturated and the lightning more glossy. You may want to check your custom content. I once downloaded a mod that was "SFM Viewmodels" and it included TF2TIP textures without the submission specifying that those textures were on the pack. This also reminds, try never using the "custom" folder while using HLMV, in-case, create a new one exclusively for HLMV (Fix the fire overlay, cubemaps and such). You can change between custom folders by adding a "_" on the current one and rename the other to "custom". But another reason of the image was the wonky pose (I have no idea how you did that pose, I suppose with RPS_Lose animation). The pose is unique, which is good having variations between other images, but it would be a lot better if it was on another item, such as a "Hat" item, since it was blocking some of the areas of the item. I don't see "clipping" much of a problem, especially when it's very little clipping, it's something that it's almost impossible to avoid, see Courtier's Collar, this item was clipping in every pose possible, expect "Reference" pose, and reference poses should not be used, because it makes the character way too bland and the image is nothing special with that pose stance. ▪ - 08:20, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Yeah, I definitely haven't edited any of the textures I've used. The only mods I've got are sound mods that I made myself.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bojjob (talk) • (contribs)
- Well, then it's my bad. But still, the attention on the custom content is important. Making a separate custom folder is also a good tip, since some of the models load incorrectly in HLMV and they need to be recompiled to remove the Helper Bones (I have no idea how to do that, Omolong was the only one I know that knew how to do these edits on the model, but he's taking a break of the Wiki). The fixed models can be found on the rot and trans pages. ▪ - 12:50, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
Oh hey! You're back (ish)
Where's my hug? Also, any chance of throwing me any sort of guide for HLMV. I'm tempted to give it a whirl when I'm not lazy. And or pointers Ashes (talk) 11:27, 8 October 2015 (PDT)
- Well, maybe yes. I'm actually more talkative now than before, so, it may happen now. But not exactly next week, I'm not done with some of the images and I just finished my exams today, so I want a (more) break. ▪ - 11:30, 8 October 2015 (PDT)

HLMV Grey Eyed Problem
Hey, I'm having some trouble with HLMV... all my classes have grey eyes no matter what they're wearing. Is there a way to fix this? 10:47, 12 October 2015 (PDT)
- No there isn't. I already have told that to you. You can't put maximum performance under your Nvidia (if you're using Nvidia) settings, if you put Balanced or something else, it will fix it. Try also replacing the dxsupport.cfg again, I've heard some people saying that the dxsupport is always replaced when new updates comes out, that never happened with me, though. ▪ - 11:29, 12 October 2015 (PDT)
Limbless Class Images
Hey, sorry about all the questions but I noticed you did a class image where it was just their body without any limbs (especially the head). How did you do it? 11:00, 14 October 2015 (PDT)
- I think I worked out how to do it. I took a picture of the cosmetic and then loaded the class as a weapon and edited them together, erasing the arms out. How did I do? 11:51, 14 October 2015 (PDT)
- Go here. If you're going to do a shirt-related item, try searching a shirt-item from that class and get the materials from there. For the Starduster, search the "Marksman's Mohair" and get the materials there, since both are "shirt" items. Copy the rot and trans values and paste on your regedit (paste the info on your hwm/sniper.mdl regedit path). Make sure to have the exact same angle (do not alter on HLMV). What the materials do is that it disables certain areas of the model, making it more clean to take screenshots. You'll need to paste these materials on your custom folder, just like a mod. You also need to keep the animation as "ref" and use HWM models. ▪ - 19:56, 14 October 2015 (PDT)
- Ah, thank you very much 10:54, 15 October 2015 (PDT)
- Okay, I really can't get my head around this... I need to disable pyro's grenades for these painted images but I can't seem to do it. I look in the VMTs of the textures I downloaded but I can't see anything. Which part of the files disables the bodygroups? 11:59, 13 November 2015 (PST)
- Disable them via HLMV, manually over the "Model" tab. Click on the drop-down list (pyro) and go to grenades and disable each time you refresh the program. I've always done like this, I know it's kinda pain in the neck doing always when Refresh, but I don't know if there was any custom texture to just make them invisible (it's possible, though). ▪ - 18:49, 13 November 2015 (PST)
- Okay... do you know who DOES know how to do it automatically? I downloaded textures for a different class that disabled certain bits even if you pressed F5, but I just couldn't see any bits of code that might have done it. 11:24, 14 November 2015 (PST)
- It's a change on the texture file and the normal map. The white areas in the normal map are the parts which are going to be invisible, while the black are the ones that will show. Wait and I can make a pack which hides the Pyro grenades. ▪ - 12:43, 14 November 2015 (PST)
- Ah, I know how to do that, you don't have to do it for me heh 12:44, 14 November 2015 (PST)
- In-case you're using GIMP for that, be sure to open the .vtf first with VTFEdit and Right-Click and click "Copy". Re-open the texture and paste your texture above the base texture of the vtf. Every time you open a .vtf on Gimp, the texture loses a bit of quality, so you'll need to do this workaround in order to retain the quality. ▪ - 13:35, 14 November 2015 (PST)
- Hmm, this didn't work. The white bits just lose their normal mapping. 19:20, 14 November 2015 (PST)
- What "package" of changes (that makes stuff invisible) are you using? Can you send me a link of the original? ▪ - 13:53, 15 November 2015 (PST)
- AHA, I worked it out! You have to edit the alpha channel on the bits you want invisible. Then you add this to the VMT:
"$alphatest" "1"
"$nocull" "1"
- 11:53, 23 November 2015 (PST)
- You can also add this, instead of these other two:
- "VertexLitGeneric"
- {
- "$no_draw" "1"
- }
- That's how it looks on the files found on the Rotations page. ▪ - 18:56, 24 November 2015 (PST)

Spy Cigarette
Hey, I'm trying to make painted variants image for the Graylien, I downloaded the texture they used for the Spectre's Spectacles and used the same rotations but the cigarette's invisible. How do I fix this? 10:34, 23 October 2015 (PDT)
- See if you are using the REF pose. If you're using the StartPose stance, the Spy holds the ciggarete on his hands, so that's why it's not showing up. But I think it was removed. I think Omolong updated to make the paint variants more "clean", so it doesn't need to show an additional object that has nothing to do with the model itself. See Vive La France for instance, all the paint variants doesn't have the cigarette. ▪ - 11:46, 23 October 2015 (PDT)
Backers on Nominations
Isn't the point of backers is those who back them up in a positive way? If so, we're using a for that... so were not really backing them up...... Ashes (talk) 14:35, 23 October 2015 (PDT)

- Alright thanks. Shouldn't be better just remove the nomination for him completely, since it's too early? Having that nomination rolling around on the months seems like a bad idea, especially that the guy will probably be declined to get the Wiki Cap (on the early nomination) and people will wait too much to nominate it again. ▪ - 05:09, 24 October 2015 (PDT)
- I don't think it's our place to judge. It's up to the staff members whether the nomination should be removed. All we can do is explain why we believe he shouldn't be nominated yet on the nomination page and to the positive commentors. Besides, Bojjob looks like the kind of guy who doesn't mind if he's rejected. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 07:44, 24 October 2015 (PDT)
- You realize that it takes months for the staff to check how the nominations are going, right? It will end up being rejected when he was supposed to be actually nominated (in-case he works well till that day). There's no point of keeping an early nomination with only 1 positive vote, at least that's my point. ▪ - 08:47, 24 October 2015 (PDT)
- Even so, it is not our role to remove someone else's nomination. If you don't think that Bojjob should be nominated now then go talk to the one person who gave him a positive vote and explain why. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 12:58, 24 October 2015 (PDT)
- If you think someone shouldn't be nomiated, you should not go talk to the person who nominated them. That directly flies in the face of why we have a nomination board. If you have a problem with a nomination, you should write why (editcount is not a reason) they *shouldn't* be awarded a cap. If your reason becomes outdated, the onus is yours to fix it. You should treat wiki cap nominations as a talk page; it's impolite to remove or modify others' comments, and it's improper to have the discussion somewhere else. old unpainted images
Hello, I'm trying to fix the Scotsman's Stove Pipe page image but I can't seem to get the band to not appear white. Do you know how to make the old hats look unpainted instead of white? 16:33, 25 October 2015 (PDT)
- The .VMT files for the old cosmetic items doesn't have the
$color2
parameter on it, which is what HLMV uses to load the color material. In other hand, Team Fortress 2 itself only uses the$colortint_base
parameter for that. If you want to load these colors, you'll need to extract the .VMT and add the $color2 string and code the contents from the $colortint_base and paste it over $color2. I'll use the Demoman's Fro as an example: - demo_afro.vmt
- "VertexlitGeneric"
- {
- "$baseTexture" "models/player/items/demo/demo_afro"
- "$bumpmap" "models/player/items/demo/demo_afro_normal"
- "$detail" "effects/tiledfire/fireLayeredSlowTiled512.vtf"
- "$detailscale" "5"
- "$detailblendfactor" .01
- "$detailblendmode" 6
- "$yellow" "0"
- "$one" "1"
- "$phong" "1"
- "$phongexponent" "20"
- "$phongboost" ".05"
- "$lightwarptexture" "models/player/pyro/pyro_lightwarp"
- "$phongfresnelranges" "[.3 1 8]"
- "$halflambert" "0"
- "$blendtintbybasealpha" "1"
- "$blendtintcoloroverbase" "0"
- "$colortint_base" "{37 33 29}"
- "$color2" "{37 33 29}"
- "$colortint_tmp" "[0 0 0]"
- ...
- You need to do this on both team materials (in-case there's team-colored on said item). You can also use TFMV for that, it makes it a lot easier to make Paint Variants. I can teach you how to use it, if you wish. ▪ - 18:47, 25 October 2015 (PDT)
- Ah, thank you that worked.
- Hm... how do I use TFMV? I tried using it but I couldn't figure it out and all the tutorial videos were missing from the page.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bojjob (talk) • (contribs)
- Download TFMV first (I use 1.2.8b, I had issues with the 1.2.9, so I rolled back);
- Open TFMV, go to Settings and set your Steam Directory and TF2 (Steampipe) Directory (steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf). Mark "Force HLMV antialising" and "use players HWM models"
- Go back to items and click to Download Schema, and wait until it ends;
- After downloaded, select your class with the desired cosmetics and weapons (in-case you're doing infobox pictures);
- After selecting, click on "Loadout to HLMV + Load Paints";
- Now the old hats doesn't have the white color on it. You can also change the team colors quicker by going on the "Paint Items" tab and choosing any. Clicking on "Update Paints" will cause to change the paint on HLMV automatically;
- The BLU VMT doesn't appear there, so you'll need to do the .vmts process here. A simple way to do so is simply by clicking on the "item".vmt that appears on the screen and editing directly there. Then, press refresh on HLMV (not on TFMV, otherwise it will not work). You'll need to get the BLU's $color2 code directly from the game files, though;
- This program also can switch styles. In this version, there were some issues with some items that causes strange textures to show up. I don't know about other versions;
- On the Settings tab, you can change your HLMV Camera Position (Trans) and Camera Rotation (Rot). Here, however, it's a bit different. The columns are shifted by one. So the first value goes on the second box, the second on the third box and the third on the first box (as far I remember, it's that how it works).
- Download TFMV first (I use 1.2.8b, I had issues with the 1.2.9, so I rolled back);
- That should be it.
- An extra note: When loading the Sniper model, it causes his Facial Flexes to mess up. I don't know if that was updated in later revisions, but you won't be able to do Sniper pictures in good quality due to this. ▪ - 19:02, 26 October 2015 (PDT)

D'you reckon you could fix this for us? 12:41, 29 December 2015 (PST)
- Shouldn't be difficult to fix it. I don't know if I'll do the image, though. ▪ - 13:04, 29 December 2015 (PST)
- Well just gimmie the model and I'll make it if you want
- I'll link to your fixed model in the summary 13:07, 29 December 2015 (PST)
- It's already done, piece of cake. Let me pack up everything right. Also, do you think I should get another "Helping Hand"? Well, if you want, I guess. (May take a while for me to pack the stuff). :^). ▪ - 13:18, 29 December 2015 (PST)

- Thanks, helped out with lots of other stuff (HLMV related and stuff), but I already had too many about HLMV image editing, something new from the model fixes is a lot more awesome, thanks again.
Here is the file: [1], check if everything's working. In-case it doesn't work, try simply loading the model from the folder using "Load Weapon", instead of "(Steam) Load Weapon". Honestly, I don't think there's anything documented about these model fixes, would be interesting if I make a tutorial (another one). I promised a billion times already that I would make some tutorials, but never went to do it. I have a better microphone now, so I may do it, especially that this model tutorial doesn't take too much time. ▪ - 14:08, 29 December 2015 (PST)
