Meet the Director is a comic released on May 5, 2011 with the Replay Update. The comic stars Miss Pauling and a "Director" (whose identity is unknown) interviewing several Mercenaries of RED, attempting to proclaim details relating to their occupations.

Synopsis

The story begins with the Administrator watching the RED's and BLU fight on various maps, when she noticed a RED Spy sneaking into the BLU Base. She then draws attention to Miss Pauling standing nervously behind her. Miss Paling then explains that while running a background check on the BLU Soldier and RED Demoman, they discover the 2 have become friend after meeting at a Projectile Weapons Expo. This angers the Administrator as it is a betrayal of their trust, but then enqires as to what friends actually do when unsure as to how that threatens them. When Miss Pauling tells her that friends sometimes talk, this worries the Administrator, as she states the two mercenaries could talk about work and discover they are both working for the same person.

The Director attempts to interview the rest of RED, with seemingly little success. Meanwhile, an unknown messenger is being restrained and interrogated by the RED mercs - It is implied that each person interviewed has been blackmailed with potentially compromising photographs (save for the Soldier, whose collection of heads was stolen and held for ransom instead.) The Administrator appears on the miniature television mounted in the now dead agent's chest and reveals she was the source of the photographs (and stolen heads), demonstrating her new-found leverage and potential modes of retaliation should the mercenaries ever discuss the terms of their contract.

Elsewhere, Miss Pauling leads the Director into a mineshaft under the guise of an interview with the Administrator. Pauling asks if she should hold off on killing him, noting he never got a chance to interview BLU, to which the Administrator says to dispose of him anyway as a potential liability, remarking that she will simply have to find some new directors...

Trivia

Page 2

  • The Administrator calling out "Alert! A RED Spy is in the base!" is a reference to the intro of the Meet the Spy video. However, in the actual video the Administrator says "Intruder alert! RED Spy is in the base!". There is also a goof in regards to this, as the Administrator says to 'Attend to the briefcase!' shortly after. This does not happen in the comic as the Administrator is talking to Miss Pauling.
  • There is a photo of the Zepheniah Mann and Company on the control panel.

  • The pose the Demoman is standing in while crying at the Eye Museum is same pose he stands in on the Gunboats announcement page, but from the opposite side.
  • The Soldiers and Demomans shirts say 'Gravel Pits of America Cenic Bus Tour' in the top right photo.
  • There is a pile of gravel that has not been coloured in under the wheel of the crane.
  • The Demoman's shoulder icon is missing.

  • The Administrators chair changes between Page 1 and Page 5.
  • The control panel the Administrator is sitting at loses several dial guages from the top of the panel to the bottom. It should be noted however, that given the direction Missing Pauling is facing and the lack of chair obscuring the Administrators back, that they are facing an entirely different control panel.

  • Saxton Hale's hair colour is missing when he rolls through the window.

  • The nobs on the side of the phone disappear in the bottom left panel.
  • Mr Reddy's tie and shirt change from white to red between Page 8 and Page 10.

  • The Demoman receives an additional 3 crates to the one the Eyelander came in, totaling 4. However, the Demoman only received 3 unlockables for the update, so it could be speculated the fouth crate could hold the Gunboats.

  • The name on the Soldiers door is Jane Doe, a militiary term used for an unamed deceased person. It should be noted though that Jane Doe referes to a female person, where as John Doe refers to a male.
