:: Hi there Rins. I run VS Saxton Hale on my server as a game type, and thus I know where to check (release wise) in regards to Saxton content. It would appear none of your decals/posters appear as part of the release, and do not appear in any of the VSH maps released with the plugin/models etc. This unfortunately means that though this game type is a community project, your content would not be suitable to document on the page, thanks. -- <span style="color:#0e5c76;font-size:13px;font-family:'TF2 Build';text-shadow:#e3e3e3 1px 1px 0px;">Benjamoose</span> <span style="font-size:10px"> (talk | contribs)</span> 13:23, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

.gif Images

I'm not talking about quality but functionality, Looking at static images is pretty boring and Youtube videos take such a long time to load, also this was a test, I have a pretty nice looking one gif but it have almost 2 MB that is too big for my objective, So can you tell me how to use external images because I can use my dropbox to upload it. -Danisson 17:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't think external images can be linked to, but I may be wrong. Even so I don't think we want people to link to external images. As for gif's - I find animations distracting and thus irritating, I don't think we want those either. -RJ 17:49, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
A gif image would be nice, but as you can see, anything below 2 MB looks terrible. External images however should never be put directly into pages, and forcing a page to contain a >2 MB image (long loading time) is also not recommendable. The best way to go about it is to put a link to the external file in the page, but then again if there's going to be a link, it might as well be a link to a YouTube video. D: — Wind 17:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to make the best visible good looking animation, I think a bigger version with less frames could help, The first image I made was 1,47 MB that is too huge to be on page that people want fast information. Also I think the image should link to a bigger version of the image (just a frame) or opening a "official" looking video because those videos with annotations and intros are bad, We should at least making better YouTube videos. I hated that Hi-Five Taunts video, The author was using the mouse and etc, and it repeats too much. So yeah... If I make a good gif I will upload it -Danisson 18:04, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Here is the Big[1] and the Small[2] version of it, I was thinking why we don't link it to the anti-aliased HD version of it? -Danisson 18:21, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

JavaScript

I DID ask in IRC, but you didn't answer :(

Do you know a simple way to test the code without littering the recent changes? (I know about show preview, but the function will change specifically the recent changes, so I can't test it there). --CruelCow 01:05, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I was probably in-game, highlight me next time >.< As for "previewing", no, you can't do that. I usually make a userscript (google "greasemonkey") and when it works, I convert it to a Wiki thingy (usually just a matter of replacing the onload function call by addOnloadHook) — Wind 01:07, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Templates

Hey, how do you do your templates? Like the items one and the TF2 playing time/score, i'd like to make one for me!:)

(Please use show preview, remember that one edit on a user talk page = 1 email, so 4 edits = 4 emails). Anyway, check out Special:PrefixIndex/User:WindPower for links to my profile templates. Just view their source and you can then use them. — Wind 16:11, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

RollbackPenalty

Are you penalising those that use it, or those that have their edits rolledback? If it's use, well that just silly. I've removed it for now.  – Smashman (talk) 07:11, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I requested it. Rollback is destructive. People don't know why their edits got reverted because it offers no chance to change the edit summary. The filter just means that rollbacks count for 0.5 instead of 1. -- Pilk (talk) 07:18, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Then why, exactly, does undoing something subtract more? -Shine[] 07:25, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll clarify what the numbers mean. One sec. -- Pilk (talk) 07:28, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure having your edit undone subtracts more, not undoing. I don't think we should punish rollback. For a start it's an admin only ability. Also, I've been using rollback before, while I hadn't really thought of its destruction. So you're punishing me, and likely solely me quite alot. Fine I'll attempt to stop using it. But if you're going to remove points for rollback, you should remove points for undos too.  – Smashman (talk) 07:32, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
You are misinterpreting it. The numbers only reduce the contribution of rollback edits by 0.5. Undoing edits only subtracts that value from the person who made the edit which was undone *not* the person doing the undoing. -- Pilk (talk) 07:36, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I just feel you're punishing me for a crime I wasn't aware of. Also, those that aren't admins can't do it, so if I didn't have the ability then I'd obviously only use undo. I've been trying to not use it since you voiced against it. But it is quite unfair to be punished retractively.  – Smashman (talk) 07:40, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
You aren't being punished. It's just modifying the value. Redirects are only worth 0.1 for example. -- Pilk (talk) 07:41, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Sure. But then I feel that undos should be modified the same. As they both remove edits.  – Smashman (talk) 07:51, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Removing edits isn't bad. Removing edits without explaining why is. -- Pilk (talk) 07:55, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Again, sure. But I feel that punishing retroactively is unfair. As I'd never really considered the ramifications and only admins can do it. If you want to punish, fine. But start punishing from now. Also, I've been using rollback due to my phone's awfulness. I just don't think it's a good idea to remove half a point for rollingback. Plus, there are viable reasons to use rollback. If a user has made numerous edits to a page. A single rollback click, as opposed to attempting to work out with parts were added/removed.  – Smashman (talk) 08:27, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Wow guys... Smashman, you're getting a Wiki Cap anyway and you're scoring well with or without that penalty. You use that feature because you're on a slow phone, sure, but you do fine regardless. This "penalty" isn't really a penalty, it just means you get 0.5 for a rollback rather than 1. It doesn't affect your score that much even when applied retroactively. As you said, it is an admin-only feature, and pretty much no one except you uses it, so stop panicking about it D: — Wind 16:21, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Minor issue*I think*

Well, sometimes the diacritics look weird after WindBot appeared in some Romanian articles, but they return back to normal after a while, for example ş/ţ Ş/Ţ will turn into either some characters like caps-locked, or something smaller like a snake thing. Will this thing happen always?XD

PS: it seems that it returns to normal if I modify the post a bit ._. PPS: If this wasted your time, forgive me XD New Romanian-Translator Vulturas 15:52, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, this diff doesn't show any uppercase letter turned into a lowercase one... is that what you meant? Or do you mean that turning the thing into a "snake thing" is wrong? Infobox sidebar fix

Good evening Mr. WindPower. I was doing some thinking after I was experimenting. I think the easiest thing to do would be to add a new param to the infobox, SIDEBAR, and if it's set, put in two at the top and bottom, to output the <div> as needed. --Org 00:26, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Cap

Hi, i just wanted to know if u could tell me my score on the "who's getting wiki cap list". Maybe you could create a page with all of the users of the wiki and when someone clicks there they can see their score, or a score board with every user. I know this could take a lot of time, but it would help a lot, and if i can help in any way just let me know. - Ykane 21:20, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Thing is, the score computation takes about 2 to 3 hours. Can't really be done on demand... It's meant to run once a week to determine the likeliest candidates for the Wiki Cap. I think you would be better off not worrying about it and focusing on editing, the cap will come naturally. It's like writing an essay: if you stop every minute to count the words and see how many pages you've written, it'll take ages; if you forget about it and just focus on writing, you'll be there much more quickly. This being said, here is your latest tally (from one or 2 days ago, so it's probably not really useful... sorry) — Wind 21:24, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Can you at least tell how much an edit is worth, like "this, this, and that are worth 1.00, now, that is worth 1.50". Maybe a chart or something like that? - Ykane 19:58, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

I'll direct ye to this lovely page, which includes the technical information in regards to 'computing' your score. But again, it will just come eventually if you edit without worrying what your 'score' is every moment of the day. That's maddening! --Vaught 20:01, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Item infobox filter issues

  • Bot keeps forcing "slot = invalid" on taunt pages, cause known (no Category:Primary weapons category, etc), solution unknown.
    • As a result I added a couple of pages to the blacklist.
  • Category removal filter is removing 'Weapons' category, etc, from Weapons pages (e.g. [3]). I'll just manually revert these for now.
Okay now they're getting out of hand, adding a heap of them to the blacklist. seb26 [talk] 09:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

seb26 [talk] 09:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Filter issues again

Observe [4]. I've disabled the categories filter because as we said having categories there isn't really a huge problem. As for the slot type, I really think the filter needs to recognize botignore or something, as there are likely to be many other exceptions and it doesn't seem wise to just add them to the blacklist page or keep having a revert war with the bot. I'll leave this up to you, though. seb26 [talk] 09:25, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Weapon Demonstrations Question

Is it absolutely necessary to have to hit the target at the far back? I'm currently working on a demo for the Grenade Launcher, and it's becoming excruciatingly difficult, i don't think i have even seen the "HIT!" effect once. :P Kryzoid 00:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

No. It's just a guideline so that players see the arc the weapon makes. Shoot towards it and clearly show how the shot arc, that's all required. Also, please ask on the weapon demonstration talk page, not here — Wind 01:30, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Can Coding be done in the wiki?

asked mousekateer, he said you'd be the person to ask on the subject. at any rate, is there a way around the preset "<p>" tags that the text follows. I have an interesting project i would like to make. But it would involve some coding. If not, oh well, thanks anyway. -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 21:48, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Could you rephrase this somehow? I have no idea what you're asking D: — Wind 21:50, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm trying to write some form of html/java script code. i tried to test a basic if statement, but it didn't work. So i highlighted the text, click view source, and noticed things like this is text is wrapped in <p> tags. No clue if that has anything to do with why it doesnt work. My question is: Is it possible to do scripting/coding on the wiki? [/long rant] -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 21:55, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I still kinda have no idea what you're trying to do, but maybe you should try editing User:M-NINJA/valve.jsWind 21:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
That is exactly what i need! Now to figure out how to make the text show up in the body, not the corner. -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 22:04, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Saxton Hale, this seems to run on every page i go to! Well, that page is getting deleted. I'm trying to make some code that would take the Users ID number, to use for misc other sets of code. the main idea behind the project was a "Logged on" code that would display whether or not a person was logged on, and have some sort of display. Not a necessary project, but i would like to be able to do it. -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 22:17, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
You can use the mediawiki global variables in your scripts to check for things like page name and logged-in status and user permissions, and run the script accordingly. Check the source code of any page, it's in the first script block of the head. — Wind 22:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch! Last question, would this project need to go in some special section to work, or just a template/User:Projects? -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 22:22, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I again don't really understand what you're trying to do; if you're trying to have each user build a list of projects, then yes that list would have to go into userspace — Wind 22:28, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Jist of the project. It would be code dropped into the userpage. It would have some size of a userbox. It would tell whether or not the user is logged on. Something like of that nature. Would scripting work in a template/Userpage. And im sorry for not making things clear, things make more sense in my head :3 -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 22:32, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that would work. Users would have to insert a dummy template inside their page, and a script would, on userpages, detect that template and replace it with something meaningful — Wind 22:38, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Probably going to run into trouble when checking if a user is logged in or not, as there is no way to tell. You can only tell which user is currently browsing the page, not if any arbitrary user is logged in D: — Wind 23:09, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Well that mildly stabs my idea. How about something that shows the number of edits you made. is there a way to connect to the users Special page by user id and grab the number of edits that user has made? I WANT SOMETHING BIG AND INTERESTING TO DO! -= M-NINJA Burger Gib.png =- 23:23, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I believe there's an API call for that — Wind 23:30, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't want to spend the bandwidth to download them myself and then re-upload them again, so please do that if you have unlimited bandwidth. If you don't, then tell me and I'll download these things myself anyway~ — Wind 04:42, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Tell me a site and then I'll upload it. (here is the [Announcer]). Also, two questions. Imagine that I give you a file with 40 files that are uploaded. Will be better if that files are not on the upload? Or it doesnt matter? It could help me to download that files faster. Also, would you mind if I do the "audio files" articles of another languages and I don't finish them? I just dont want to "spam" the creation of these articles, so I ask. And thanks. Sr Domi 22:49, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
This one for example (warning, it has lots of ads and tries to make you take some "special offers" and asks for your cell phone number and shit, but you can skip them and don't have to put anything), or I might just set an FTP account for that somewhere. And no it doesn't matter if the file is already uploaded; if it is, it will not be reuploaded. — Wind 23:22, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

[After nine days in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait.] Sr Domi 23:27, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Very good, is downloadin'~ — Wind 23:28, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Is uploadin'~ — Wind 00:10, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
I need to know your opinion. What's your opinion? Did I upload it good? I put effort adding "_es" to all files, and putting them in their folders. I'm downloading the German's, do you think that it will be good to do the same? I mean, it's a little hard, if I could skip it... but if it's necesary, I'm ok doing it again. Thanks for the upload! Sr Domi 21:31, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, you uploaded it good; however, the wiki has no folders, and the script I had only runs in one folder (not recursive) so I just put them all in the same folder. That script also automatically appended "_fr" to all files (because it was written to do that for french files originally) so I just removed that to make it append nothing (since you already had put "_es"). So yeah, next time don't put the "_es" and put them all in one folder, thanks :3 — Wind 21:35, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Ugh, I felt a little bad for you, but... I LOVE THAT SCRIPT :D Maybe tomorrow I will have all the necessary files~ Sr Domi 22:26, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. First, I tried to upload on one file, but it failed. The, I split it into 2, and nothing. Into 4, and the same way. So, you have to download these seven files. Sorry. Sr Domi 17:24, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Auto Unsigned

I think if you could implement this on WindBOT it'd be seriously helpful. I'm not 100% sure how, but perhaps, check the history and then see if the last person put a link to their User page in their comment, if not, bam unsigned template. You could do the time too! Just and idea that I hope you'll attempt to tackle. Thanks! – Smashman (talk) 15:07, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

A good idea, but unsure about the implementation. Several messages span on multiple lines, and some are not new messages but edits/corrections to the last message they posted. So, while it is a good idea, in practice I think it'd do more harm than good D: — Wind 21:33, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Mush bot mush!

Ohai there. Can your bot scour the wiki for all uses of the blueprint template and remove all the lines with these attributes:

  • | ingredient-1-local =
  • | ingredient-2-local =
  • | ingredient-3-local =
  • | ingredient-4-local =
  • | ingredient-5-local =
  • | result-local =

It's not a big issue, so no rush. Thanksies :3 User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 02:01, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

WindBOT deleting "slot" on weapon taunt pages

Hey Windikins. Would it be possible for you to prevent WindBOT from doing this on pages with type = taunt? Defining the slot is necessary for it to display correctly in the infobox. Danke. -- Pilk (talk) 14:43, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Translating TF2 wiki to Lithuanian Language

Hello , is it possible to translate tf2 wiki pages to Lithuanian language ? I'm not doing it alone of course , right now i have few people that are willing to do it with me, and i just wanted to know is it possible.

The main reason why i want to do it , is that alot of Lithuanians don't understand main things of tf2 , and this would be very helpfull to them.

I hate asking, I really do, but...

I'd like to have a rough estimate on how close I am to getting Wiki Cap of my own. I realize that it takes the bot a few hours to generate an accurate list, and that it's most likely going to use old(er) information than what it now. But, I'd just like to know. I have stuff going on in real life, and on other websites, and I wanted to get all of my facts straight before I go and give myself an overload of work to do. Thanks in advance. The list is updated once a week; the caps were dropped after the list was updated, so they're still on the list until the next update. It's always like this, because I'm too lazy to refresh it~ — Wind 18:30, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Request

Hi. I propose to approve a new style for the article Kill icons. This improved version is more informative and useful.

Tturbo , OluapPlayer and a lot of other guys have already expressed their opinion, they support it. What do you think about it? VeKoB HauntedHalloweenGift.png 16:07, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

I propose you create a thread about it in Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion rather than asking everyone around~ It's missing some icons (Gunslinger triple punch) — Wind 19:09, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Question

Greetings i have question. Can i post posters made by me ( u can find them here http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/User:Rins ) near bosses in http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/VS_Saxton_Hale_Mod page? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rins (talk) • (contribs)

You may do so if they are present in the maps themselves. If you just did the images but they aren't used in-game, then no — Wind 20:32, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
They are pretty rad though. GeminiViRiS User GeminiViRiS Doubleface.jpg Talk Contribs 20:34, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Why not make them with a VsSHm- tag or something like the weaponiser thing?Vulturas 20:36, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Well this posters used as decals . I mean yes they on maps u can check it by your self. And sorry for writing on your page quite new in wiki system. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rins (talk) • (contribs)
Then go ahead and put them, but make sure to name them a bit more consistently (see Vulturas's suggestion), and with the correct file license — Wind 21:24, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Also have one more question, we have some few new engineer gun and teleport and deespenser made by dr.Eggman can i post posters with this fake updates and post informaion about them? Rins 21:44, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Is this update going to be an actual update for the Saxton Hale mod, or is it just a general fake update page? If it's a general fake update page, then no (unless it's been mentioned on the TF2 blog). If you really want to, you're free to create a page for it in your userspace (like a page called "User:Rins/Fake Engineer Update") but it won't be moved to the main wiki pages (unless it gets mentioned on the TF2 blog) — Wind 21:48, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Mmm nope this engineer update is another Mod and it will be released separately (its not connected with saxton hale mod we just testing it). Rins 21:53, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

then no, it won't be allowed in the main wiki pages, sorry D: We don't cover all community-related stuff, speculation, unreleased contents, rumors, etc. (mostly to avoid conflicts and article spam). We make exceptions for things that are featured on the official TF2 blog, as that is usually a clear sign of notability. So, as I said, if you still want to make an article about it, you can still do so on your userspace; it'll be visible to everyone just like regular articles, but its title will start with "User:Rins/". I wouldn't really recommend that though, as that energy would be better spent doing other work, but it's up to you to decide — Wind 21:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Have one more question about Decals and vs saxton. Have few more decals wich we using on saxton server, can i create gallery with them on vs saxton page? Rins 13:15, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi there Rins. -- Benjamoose Om nom nom! Map infobox fix

Hai there. So currently when the map infobox template is used on translated pages some translators are writing the game type as the translated name. This is a problem because as one user pointed out to me the Romanian translation for 'Arena' is the same and with the current template there is no way to link the word to Arena/ro instead of Arena. So I've rewritten the template so that it takes the english map type and uses translation switching. The problem is a lot of translated map pages have '| game-type = Charge utile' and I need them to be '| game-type = Payload' or whatever game mode they are. I was thinking of taking the base page name, check which map type category it's in and change game-type to that. It seemed simple in mah head but :S User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 19:25, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

items_game.txt question

Hello there! I have question about items_game file. What should I write to get Lumbricus Lid? Answer me here, please!User-Gringo Perm.jpg Gringo perm 11:56, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Find the Lumbricus Lid section in items_game.txt, and ctrl+C it (the entire section). Now pick an item that you have in your inventory and that has the same level as the Lumbricus Lid (which is any level from 0 to 100 apparently, so you can pick any item). Find the section of that item in items_game.txt, and replace it with the contents of the Lumbricus Lid section that you copied earlier. Start the game, and now your items should be replaced. However, the Equalizer demo is already done :( Just waiting to be uploaded. — Wind 19:41, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
