Hello, GrampaSwood!
Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!
Here are a few links to get you started:
- If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
- If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
- Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
- To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
- You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
- When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
- This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
- Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
- When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
- You can use the
button in the editing toolbar to quickly add a signature.
- If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.
- If you have trouble with anything on the wiki or you're not sure about a specific topic, feel free to join the IRC.
- You can also customize your user page if you like.
- When uploading images for use on your user page, please add the prefix User GrampaSwood to the file's name.
- Additionally, if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:GrampaSwood/ to the page title when you create the page.
Once again, welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Wiki!

Re: Festivizer images
Hi, you mentioned my uploads being lower quality, but you linked to the old image that I am replacing.
My images have not been succesfully cached yet. I have included an example of the image you are referring to that I uploaded a new version of.
My HLMV settings are set according to the guides in the help section, and I do have 8x antialiasing on via nvidia settings. I did, however, downscale some of these a little, and may need to try and retake some if this is still not considered an improvement over the inaccurate, low-quality prior images.
EmilyEmbers (talk) 20:44, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- I compared the older upload, your newer upload, and the other Rocket Launcher upload. They may not have been cached on your end yet, but I had the right images on mine. Try CTRL + F5 on the image if it doesn't show up properly.
- The downscaling likely ruined the image, so I advise to not do that for any image.

(talk) (contribs) 20:48, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Downscaling manually via an image manipulation program will cause either bluriness or choppy-looking edges. If you would like to downscale, it's ideal to do that on HLMV itself, by zooming out a little.

Restored redirects
Why restore them? A few years ago, pretty much all names of items were changed, so all words are no longer capitalized like in the English language. I already created redirects with the correct names. Why leave the old ones? Now if someone would want to search them, there will be two identical results, with one using the old incorrect version. Denied (Talk) 15:40, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Redirects are to redirect people to the correct article even if they had the wrong name, see: Solider, Mann in Slacks, or Axetinguisher. Old names are also kept, including capitalisation changes, see: Claidheamohmor, Train Of Thought, Creature From The Heap, Mister Sentry. A redirect having the old name is exactly what they're for, to help users that may not know or remember the exact name. Redirects, in general, are also not harmful enough to be deleted.
| s | GrampaSwood
(talk) (contribs) 15:47, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Even if literally nothing links to them? They are used only in the search window. It's not a completely new name, like "Mister Sentry" to "Aim Assistant." And most of the examples you linked are misspellings or grammar mistakes that make more sense in English only. Polish translations are still the same; only now there are two results with the same name and directing to the same article. If there will be any major changes to translated items (which are very rare), then having both old and new names makes sense.

- Yeah looks fine. If you type "Kucyk B" then the other one doesn't show up. Not everyone uses the search bar either (I navigate by changing the URL or using the shorthand wiki.tf). Similarly to all other capitalisation-related, these are just fine and there's generally no reason to have them deleted.

- Is it possible to implement a search bar used on Wikipedia so when a user switches to the Polish interface and types "Kucyk bohatera", "Kucyk Bohatera", "KUCYK BOHATERA" etc., it will always show the correct article without creating every possible redirect combination? Or was it already suggested?

- I'm not sure it's possible to do that with our version of Mediawiki, but maybe in the future if we ever upgrade versions. But for now, it makes the most sense having the old name still as a redirect (even if we had that search bar system in place).

New account
Hey there. This is JupiterSphere. I've created a new Wiki account due to being locked out of my main one. Password managers look real good in hindsight.
Is there a policy against using your own user page on a new account if you can't access (or abandon) the other one? Reverentpsycho (talk) 04:17, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- As long as we can't verify you as the owner of the original account you can't touch any of the other account's stuff. Why not use the forgot password option?
| s | GrampaSwood
(talk) (contribs) 10:53, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't have access to the email used for it (I reset my computer without having a password manager/backup elsewhere), but I'm pretty sure I know what it is. When requesting a password reset for the email I thought it used, it gave me an unrelated account (User:Pennyeatsbricks or something) instead, which I apparently made at some point. Reverentpsycho (talk) 22:48, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- I can also edit my Steam profile (linked on JupiterSphere) to prove it's me if you want. Reverentpsycho (talk) 22:53, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Redirects from multiple languages using the same translation
There are issues with redirects where the same item has the same translation in multiple languages. Maybe instead of deleting them, for example, "Pistol" translates to "Pistolet" in French and Polish, so to create a redirect for French "Pistolet," the redirect could look like this. Can this method be used? Asking first so there's no problem later. Denied (Talk) 09:56, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- They're fine if you make them like that (albeit rather useless in my opinion), but the issue is that usually the lang redirect's purpose is for people looking up "Pistolet" to be redirected. A preferred alternative is some kind of multi-language disambiguation, but there needs to be some kind of format agreed on before we start making these.

(talk) (contribs) 14:07, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- I have had an idea to add a small explanation that multiple languages use the same translation of the item, and to find the correct language, the user would need to click the correct flag below; this text would use translation switching. Should this be moved to the discussion page to discuss it with more users?

- If you can make an article on your user space to show it off that would help. I personally thought of simply including a header with the language's name.

I can only visualize it; someone clicks on the redirect, and the page has flags of countries that use the same translation, and clicking each flag shows different translations of the same text because I forgot lang switch won't work here. Can you show your idea?

Probably a mistake in template:Bot skill levels
In the Rocket launcher aim row, 1 cell says bots which have enemies closer than 150 HU would "aim at target's feet" and "aim at head", which is weird. I thought one of the situations was actually for "longer than 150HU". Is it a mistake?

Undo on Template:User Autism
The edit on User Autistic does not "bloat" the documentation. It was simply to add more types to the userbox, and it's removes my edit which simply was suppsoed to add more types of ASD. I've undone your edit.
Signed by Plutonium. (talk) (contributions) (thank)
- It does bloat the documentation as it's unnecessarily adding many more examples that do not need to be shown off. The first parameter (
{{{1}}}
) takes any kind of input, adding more examples for the types that can be included could end up with hundreds of examples. Just a few are necessary to show off what the template looks like, it does not need to show off every single possible variant. As for "it supports these parameters", this is blatantly false. As I said, it supports any type of input and not just the ones that you think should be used there. They are also not parameters, but inputs, a parameter is something like{{{1}}}
or{{{type}}}
.| s | GrampaSwood
(talk) (contribs) 16:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- The documentation simply lists which parameters can be used. Nowhere on the help page does it mention that you cannot show all available parameters. And yes, these are parameters. In the
|info
section of the undefined userbox, it uses a parameter for {{{1}}}, which can be modified. Also the page lock was admin abuse, and there was no reason for it to be locked.

Documentation is indeed meant to list all the parameters, which is under the "parameters" section. When you put "accepts these values:" for the unnamed parameter, that isn't listing all the parameters. For the {{{1}}}
parameter, it accepts any and everything put into it. I could put "I love TF2" in there, and that's what would show up. Besides that, it's also not really productive to try and limit the input here considering that autism isn't limited to "types" (anymore).
I never said there weren't parameters, but you're confusing parameter with an input/value. For example, on {{No Paint Diff}}
, there are several named parameters. {{No Paint Diff|nodiff=Radigan Conagher Brown}}
would have nodiff
as the parameter and "Radigan Conagher Brown" as the input. Listing all the inputs was one of the issues of your edit, having 5 examples in the "Examples" section does not have any more benefit than 2 examples.
As for admin abuse, Wiki policy dictates that in the event of an edit war, a page should be locked (as was the case). This is not admin abuse, but policy. | s | GrampaSwood

For the Honorary translator
Dear GrampaSwood,
Sometimes, I reminisce about 2019 when I literally lived on IRC...
Back then, IRC was full of cringe energy by the ppl that I remembered, and I had a lot of time to spend there.
After many years of my inactivity, while many editors have come and gone, you still here; this wiki and IRC!
I apologize, as I came too late and left too soon. Please forgive me.
Anyway,
I know that you've continuously made tons of contributions of Korean documents
and gave millions of advices for korean editors for the past few years.
It was surely not just for Korean, but many other languages as well.
Nevertheless,
you satisfied all the factors for this title already long ago. (I've checked your contributions!)
And this is my small token of gratitude for your hard work :D
Will you accept the title?

Some advice
I tried adding lang support to some of my templates, but for some reason doing this caused them to stop being displayed on my page. The offenders are User:Lolimsogreat21/Template:Zombie Escape Infect ratio and the User:Lolimsogreat21/Template:Zombie Escape human changes. I have flagged them as being editable by anyone. Namely, adding lang support to User:Lolimsogreat21/Template:Zombie Escape zombie changes caused some very ugly breaks to happen in the text in the table, namely between the first and second lines. Can You give Me some advice?
Recently i came back to the wiki with the sole purpose of doing something helpful for ru translators, but i cant decide what to do. Sure i can just press the Random page button then select Russian and look for some mistakes and so, but that is not exactly what i want to do, this is not that interesting and/or helpful since most of the pages i already redacted are not popular at all. So, is there some instrument that will allow me to see pages that need corrections, or can you give me some advice for creating my own to-do list maybe with not only ru corrections/translations?

My new project idea, wanted to ask for Your opinion.
Hello. I recently was thinking of expanding the Wiki-guides, mainly translator's guides. My first idea was to create a guide in Steam but... Nobody would probably notice/pay much attention to it, neither a lot of people will get encouraged to start contributing to the Wiki, so i decided to create my own guide, the Russian translators guide (Russian - because this is my 2nd native language and i believe i can help with article translations to it with some advice), which will give more easy-to-understand tips for newcomers that are translating pages to Russian (such as proper grammar, proper trivia, etc.). Also, if the newbies will have questions even after reading it, They can always ask Me and not bother other Russian editors/translators with questions (because Im always ready to talk and help with anything). But before doing this I decided to ask Your opinion on this idea, as You probably know more than I do. I will also leave the link to the future page here if thats needed.

- This just seems like what Team Fortress Wiki:Translation progress/ru is supposed to be. The Simplified Chinese editors have a starter guide of their own under that domain, so it should be fine to do something similar. Do note that users are expected to understand English well enough to understand the style guides and help articles and those should not be translated.

About helpful overviews
So I noticed that a plethora of maps have a "Helpful overview" section with the key map locations highlighted on the map overview, however on the style guide for maps this section is not mentioned. So I'm wondering if it just hasn't been added to the Style guide yet and if it's worth adding helpful overviews to the maps that lack one? Tango935 (talk) 23:44, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- It's a relatively new addition. They've, in the past, been made with adding the lines onto the overviews but a better template was in the works. The whole thing is being held off until it can be properly made.
| s | GrampaSwood

- There isn't really a point in adding helpful overviews to any new maps, as they would just end up getting replaced, alongside the existing helpful overviews, by the new and upcoming template that does the whole " highlighting locations" thing much better. Although as Grampaswood said, we don't know when the new template will be main space ready (or when someone will finally finish actually applying it to the maps themselves). Hello, why is there NO information on what values override projectile type attribute gives? It just explains what it does. That's it. NO INFORMATION. why'd you reverted it bro why!!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭 The guy with a tie (talk) 23:53, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- I've left the reason on your talk page. The easiest map is a purely subjective statement that differs from player to player. What one player might find easy might be something very difficult for another, especially new players who can struggle with basic FPS mechanics if it's their first FPS game or very easily get into the game and do decently well. The Team Fortress Wiki is here to document objective information, not give opinions on maps, weapons, classes, or cosmetic items.

pocket buddy discussion page error
My good fellow, while I appreciate your dutiful adherence to the guidelines of discourse within this digital compendium, I must confess that the manner in which you’ve chosen to interject borders on the officious. One might gently suggest that tone and approach matter just as much as procedural correctness. Perhaps next time, a touch less pedantry and a touch more collegiality would better serve both the conversation and the spirit of collaboration.
I say this not out of defiance, but from a place of earnest enthusiasm. I take great pleasure in engaging with others about subjects I hold dear, and the discussion page — in all its quaint charm — affords a rare opportunity to share that fondness in a public and thoughtful manner. To be met not with curiosity, but with chastisement, rather dulls the joy of such exchange. Surely, a shared love for the topic at hand should unite us in spirited dialogue, not divide us through needlessly stern reminders. (i just like pocket buddies soooooo much!!!) with all do respect -the guy with a tie The guy with a tie (talk) 01:23, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- The talk pages are only meant for meta discussions i.e. article quality and the information contained on the article, not for discussions about the article's subject (e.g., "I like the Scattergun" on Talk:Scattergun). I'm not sure what you're exactly trying to say with this message due to its overly verbose nature, but removing a topic (or in this case, deleting the talk page because it was the only topic) is standard procedure for this.

- (response)
- dear GrampaSwood,
- Permit me to express, with all due civility, my profound astonishment at the rather austere interpretation of the talk page's intended purpose. While I am not unacquainted with the notion that such pages are, in theory, to be reserved for discussions pertaining to the quality and accuracy of the article’s content, I must humbly submit that a modest expression of personal sentiment—such as indicating one's appreciation for a subject—does not, in my estimation, constitute a grievous misuse of the forum.
- Indeed, to proscribe entirely such remarks, particularly when they may serve to inform fellow readers or contributors of a prevailing opinion or general reception, strikes me as an exercise in needless rigidity. That the page should be summarily expunged on account of a solitary, arguably innocuous remark borders on bureaucratic zealotry of the most discouraging kind.
- One might do well to remember that the spirit of communal knowledge-building is not served by so severe an application of policy that it stifles genuine, if imperfectly framed, engagement. While your enforcement of convention is, no doubt, well-intentioned, I beseech you to temper such actions with a measure of forbearance and discernment.
- I remain, in earnest hope for a more charitable discourse (TL;DR just let me comment on a page it wont do much harm and i don't see anything wrong with it so just shut up)

Kazotsky Kick trivia reversion
I see no reason for you to have reverted the edit I made to the Kazotsky Kick's trivia section. I have scoured the trivia guidelines and nowhere was a mention that it had to be directly confirmed by Valve. Additionally, it specifically states that trivia must not be an assumption, and though there is no indication of either possibility being correct - thus necessitating some degree of guesswork - a simple misspelling would be more likely.
~~ ~~ (talk) 23:32, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- In the case of your edit, it changes the Trivia from an intentional play on words to a misspelling, as such it is treated as a new trivia entry entirely. In the speculation section, it mentions that this kind of trivia would require a source or a simple discussion. In this case a simple discussion where other users join in to give their opinion as to which is more likely is sufficient. I, personally, think whether it's a play on words or a misspelling is not relevant to the trivia at all and can just be omitted from the trivia, becoming:
- "Kazatsky" is a name for a Slavic dance known as the "Kazachok". Another name for this dance is the "Cossack Dance", a term commonly misused to describe the type of Slavic folk dance this taunt is parodying.
- Some other Trivia points do this as well, simply noting what the name's reference is supposed to be. Whether it's a misspelling or a play on words is not relevant to the trivia in my opinion (neither is the second sentence of the trivia).

User:Eniere/Improved Default HUD edit revert
Hi there,
I got permission from Eniere via private messaging. If you see the GitHub link I included in my edit, you will see that I am committing to the idhud repository. This is because Eniere gave me access to mantain idhud, since he no longer has time to develop it.
You can also see the following in the default branch README file: "Many thanks to all the contributors: @Tiagoquix, @FlaminSarge, @Wormsweat. Special thanks to @Tiagoquix. Since I can no longer actively develop and update IDHUD, his productive help is extremely important."
That was added by Eniere himself.
You can also see this link, which is an issue I made (that includes Hello! I am the new mantainer of idhud [...]
right at the top)that was acknowleged by Eniere himself via a "thumbs up" reaction.
Thanks for your attention.

- This is not enough to be allowed to edit the article. As the guidelines state, explicit permission must be given either on the article or somewhere else on the Wiki.
- More importantly, this user article seems to be made purely for external hosting. This is not allowed. I suggest hosting it somewhere else, as I will take down the user article week. There is no need to remove anything from the article or change it in any way.

- I want to clarify a few points. First, I gave Tiagoquix permission to edit my personal page, so you should make sure of that before undoing the edit. However, I will add the appropriate attribute to the page code. Secondly, the content on my personal page corresponds to the subject of the resource and does not contradict the guidelines. The link to a third-party resource (GitHub) is also used correctly. If I'm wrong, please provide a specific rule clause prohibiting this. Sincerely,

I cannot verify if someone gives permission to edit an article through private messaging. As Tiagoquix stated in their first message: "I got permission from Eniere via private messaging". I'm not sure how you want me to verify that without attempting to hack into either of your accounts. The guidelines state that it must be present on the article in some way, a private message is not enough, nor is "I got permission" in the edit summary.
Second, articles cannot be used only for external use. It is the 4th guideline on the user page guidelines: "User pages should not host content intended for external use or content that violates Wiki policies. If you believe that your page has value, consider asking if it belongs in the main namespace instead.". It is fine to link third-party websites, but the guideline is about using the Wiki has a host for third-party purposes. In this case, the article is being used as such and does violate the guidelines. | s | GrampaSwood
(talk) (contribs) 19:16, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't believe the idhud wiki is considered "external hosting" since we don't provide HUD files to download via the wiki itself. We only provide instructions on how to customize the HUD and since it is improvements upon the default HUD instead of being a completely different HUD it could be argued that it is a useful resource too.
- I would understand your frustration if we were like using 50 megabytes of space to keep the hud, but that's not what we are doing.
- I created idhud wiki page long before there were "guidelines" and AllowedEditors template, as well as other unnecessary things, such as a bars of "sexual orientation", "self-identification" and "support for Palestine" (I believe you're hosting all this unrelevant to the Team Fortress Wiki content on the wiki, which — I also believe — violates clause 1 of the "guidelines"). I couldn't have known what would happen in 2023, you know? So yes, it would be possible for you to find a way to contact me — there is a list of links right on my page — before deleting anything from my page. I found it rude to revert the Tiagoquix edit since you could assume good-faith first. Sincerely,
Eniere 22:19, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- Creating the article before guidelines doesn't make them exempt from it. Userboxes are absolutely related to the Wiki, they're user page decoration and some more personal ones can be hosted on user apace instead of on the main space.
- As for "good faith", this happens to anyone editing another user's user space page. If we were to assume good faith with everyone we may as well not have the rule. I'm not going to contact everyone to confirm first: if you have the permission you can show the permission.
- As I said before, the user article will be taken down in a week as it's external hosting. Your primary link for how to install is the user article. There is no arguing around this, especially not with whataboutisms.

- I agree with Eniere here. A wiki page on user-space for HUD customization, which is relevant to the game as that can also spread knowledge of custom files, is way less "problematic" than political userboxes. I don't think that publicly showing political support for X or Y is related to the wiki guidelines for what constitutes good use of the wiki space, but whatever. I am fine with the page being removed and I just want this discussion to end now. Thanks. I am not the author of the page, and I can't speak for Eniere, but I think he also does not want to invest more time into this discussion. Thanks once again.

- It's relevant to the game, but it's also used for an external project and uses the Wiki as a webhost which is the main issue. This is not allowed, no matter how you try to twist and turn it. It's not about being problematic, this is something you have made up yourself. Userboxes are part of user space decoration, they exclusively serve a purpose on this Wiki and do not serve as a webhost for other projects. There are several categories dedicated to userspace content: Category:Userbox user templates, Category:Users, Category:Userpage decoration, and Category:User images. It is okay to host user space pages, it is not okay to host user space pages purely intended for linking to on an external website. A single link on a user page does not change that this is the primary and only method linked on the GitHub.

ADDITION: Would it be okay to update pages with a 'better' voiceline? i.e the https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Tuxedo_Royale might make more sense using Spy's "Dr. No" quote as it's a Bond refrence, rather than the generic "I have an expensive suit"

Question regarding translation of Styles
Hello, so i spotted a mistake when i clicked on "Random Page" button i got the Doe-Boy/it , and even though i don't know italian i can definetly say that there is a mistake in the styles table, which misses "!" at the end - "Bù", because i launched the game in italian of curiousity and yes, the correct name for this style is "Bù!" (as it is stated in the infobox on this page, but not in the "Stili" table). I wanted to fix this minor mistake by myself, but didn't understand how exactly do i do this; there weren't any translation lines in styles' names in the table for accessories' styles. So if you can, please, contact some italian translator so they can fix this. (I don't know if this mistake even matter but still)Tosta'(h) · contributions · talk page 11:13, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

Half-Zatoichi clarification inquiry
How can I specify that the kill for HZ's heal and Honorbound removal needs to be from Half-Zatoichi? Like, shield bash kill with the HZ active won't do either. I tested this in tr_walkway. Specifically, "after the Half-Zatoichi is fully deployed, switching away from it without killing someone deals 50 damage to the wielder." I'd like to add it to "without killing someone with it". — Exaskliri (they/them) (talk | contribs) 09:51, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I don't really think that's necessary to specifically say, the whole article is about what the weapon does. Killing with a shield bash, a rolling pipe, or a stickybomb while the Half-Zatoichi is out would not trigger the weapon's overheal either. Feel free to add it if you really think it's necessary, but I think every reader will understand it as it is right now.

hey grampa swood can i get a wiki cap? (if not why not and could you also tell me how i can get one?) -The guy with a tie (talk) 01:38, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, I am not Swood, but I saw this in the recent changes and felt it worth giving a response. Generally, the Wiki Cap is awarded to contributors that other Wiki members feel met the criteria to warrant a nomination for one. When nominated, the TF Wiki staff will look at the contributions of the candidate, discuss how they feel about said candidate, and offer a yes/no vote, with at least five 'Yes' votes needed to warrant a cap.
- As implied, the Wiki Cap is a privilage that you earn through meaningfully contributing to the Wiki, so you won't get one just by asking for it. I hope this is helpful to you!

- As Kibblekip said, they're not just given out after a few contributions. A true desire to improve the Wiki has to be shown, as well as being noticed by community members. Anyone can nominate you if they think you deserve it, but asking for one isn't how it's done.
