This article lists currently unreleased content that is assumed will be released before the end of Team Fortress 2 development. "Unreleased" in this context refers to content that, unlike beta or unused content, is in the game files and/or was promised to be put in, and possibly may be integrated in-game at some point (as opposed to purposefully cut or abandoned).

On November 3rd 2010 it was revealed that Telltale's new game, Poker Night at the Inventory (featuring the Heavy Weapons Guy and several other characters from both Telltale and Penny Arcade) will unlock several different items for Team Fortress 2. The first of which is a pre-order item, a currently unnamed Gambling visor for the Heavy. At other points during the game, special rounds will activate and allow players to obtain other Team Fortress 2 items, including a Wrist watch for the Spy (originally seen in Penny Arcade), some "Dangeresque" sunglasses for the Demoman (originally seen in Strong Bad), a Freelance Police Badge for all classes (first seen in Sam and Max) and a weapon unrelated to any game, the new "Iron Curtain" Minigun replacement for the Heavy.  The game will also allow players to reaquire the Lugermorph Pistol for the Scout and Engineer, allowing it to be unlocked and found for the first time since the pre-order bonus of Sam and Max: Season 3 - The Devil's Playhouse was released. It is currently unknown if any of these weapons will have different attributes but it is rumored that they will follow the traditional theme of just being skin replacements rather than have positive and negative attributes.

The Mapper's Medallion is a special medal created by Lord Ned of TF2maps.net in order to congratulate the participants of the Art Pass contest. This medal is similar to the Polycount Pin as it will only be available to those who entered the competition. It is thought that 3dnj and YM will also receive this medal seeing as they won the competition. The Mapper's Medallion does currently not have a release date but its release will most likely be accompanied by a TF2 Blog post sometime in the near future.

A secret sixth pack and a new game mode were supposed to be released with the Mann-Conomy update. However, both were held back due to undisclosed reasons. It was stated that the sixth pack directly relates to the new game mode, and that was the reason that both were held back instead of just one.

Robin Walker has discussed a new system for recording demos, where a player can request a recording from the server at the end of a life or round. The plan is for the format to be "More robust" so the demos will not become unplayable as easily as the current system when the game is updated. Another goal is to allow people to easily share their videos on video sharing sites.

Major updates for the Xbox 360
Jungle Inferno hats
The last official mention of any class/other major updates (containing new items, maps, etc.) for the Xbox 360 version of Team Fortress 2 was on April 2, 2009. There are two main reasons as to why the content has not been released. Firstly, due to reaching, or approaching, the memory limit of the Xbox 360. Secondly, due to the fees Microsoft have put in place for adding content to games, using Microsoft's very own Live online market store. These fees have been calculated and estimated to cost Valve over one hundred thousand dollars to update the Xbox 360 version of Team Fortress 2 with all of the content of the PC version. Therefore, some expect the updates and patches to be released for the Xbox 360 once Valve has finished and finalized all of the class updates, therefore allowing them to group all of the updates and patches in one large group and content update. Still, even after all of the class updates have been released, there has been no official word as to when the update will arrive.

The Jungle Inferno update added 4 unused hats, 3 of which are reskins of the Monstrous Memento and the last of which is a reskin of the Aperture Labs Hard Hat. Although these hats are listed in the Mann Co. Catalog, they are currently unobtainable in-game:

On August 28, 2010, a trailer for a new project by Telltale Games was released on Gametrailers. It was revealed on September 2, 2010, as Poker Night at the Inventory, and is, as the title implies, a poker game featuring the Heavy alongside characters from other franchises entirely, such as Max (from the Sam & Max series), Strong Bad (from Homestar Runner), and Tycho Brahe (from Penny Arcade). Characters banter amongst each other. Bonus rounds will occasionally appear. During said bonus rounds, the player has a chance to obtain a piece of property from one of the four characters, all usable in TF2: Max wagers his Pistol (the Lugermorph) and Freelance Police badge (The License to Maim), Tycho will wager his watch (The Enthusiast's Timepiece), Strong Bad wagers his (or rather, Homestar Runner's) shades (Dangeresque Shades), and the Heavy will wager a new, self-crafted Minigun known as The Iron Curtain. A green poker visor for the Heavy will be made available to those who pre-order the game off of Steam. Telltale reportedly obtained the Heavy's model one month before the trailer was released.

Where is your doctor, coward?
The Heavy wishing for Dr. Grordbort packs to be released

Unreleased items

Certain evidence of unreleased items can be found within the game files or by official sources. It is unclear why they have not been released as of yet; even if the content has been "in storage" for many years, it simply cannot be presumed they will never be officially used.

Weapons and tools

Main article: Unused content
 • A community-contributed hat known as the Legionaire's Lid (according to the tf_english.txt file) exists in the "VPK" complete with description.

Pubbers vs Pros Medal

Main article: Pubstars vs Pros

The Pubbers vs Pros Medal is a Miscellaneous item created by Lord Ned of TF2Maps to reward participants of the Pubstars vs Pros event. This medal is similar to the Polycount Pin as it will only be available to those who compete within the event.

Other Polycount contest entries

Valve initially selected five entries from the Polycount Contest out of a total of 76. Robin Walker has stated that nearly half of the entries were of high enough quality to be used in-game, and Valve has since implemented an additional six entries.[1][2][3] All of the entries can be found here.

Dr. Grordbort's Packs

The WETA Workshop, known for making Dr. Grordbort's Victory Pack, Dr. Grordbort's Brainiac Pack and Dr. Grordbort's Moonman Pack item sets for TF2, announced on the official Dr. Grordbort's site that two new packs were in development for the game[4] with Steam users being able to vote on which set they wanted to see in the game first. The sets are the Dr. Grordbort's Rocketboy Pack for the Scout, and the Dr. Grordbort's Man of Science Pack for the Medic. Both sets follow the pattern of the other Grordbort sets, being retro-futuristic styled items.

Man Of Science Pack

Five items were announced for this set. So far, there are two weapons in this set: a primary weapon, the Mercy Killer, is a laser gun; and the secondary weapon, the Anti-Deathray, seems to be a ray-based Medi Gun. Both were already designed, but have no models. However, the three cosmetic items were already modeled and submitted to the Steam Workshop, being the Negative Prognosis, a replacement for the backpack, the Second Opinion - Utility Belt, a set of surgical tools wrapped to the Medic's waist, and the Scientific Science Goggles of Science, a pair of goggles with multiple lenses.

Rocketboy Pack

Five items were announced for this set. So far, there are two weapons in this set: a primary weapon, the Mule Molestor 600,(sic) appears to be a retro-styled Force-A-Nature; and a secondary weapon, the Saboteur 66, which appears to be a ray-based Pistol. Both were already designed, but have no models. However, the three cosmetic items were already modeled and submitted to the Steam Workshop, being the Gloves of Progress, a pair of black gloves, the Ballistic Trajectory, a jetpack replacing the backpack, and the Futuristic 'Future Hat' of the Future, a helmet.

Dota 2 promotional items

Sniper's Snipin' Glass, Clockwerk's Helm, and Storm Spirit's Jolly Hat have existed fully modeled and textured in the game files since August 2011.

Improv Coonskin Cap

The Improv Coonskin Cap is a community-contributed cosmetic item for the Soldier. It was added in the Scream Fortress 2016 update as an Assassin-grade cosmetic item as part of the Creepy Crawly Case Collection. Shortly after the update went live, Valve released another patch removing the item and all related text from the game.

The Improv Coonskin Cap was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

Jungle Inferno hats

The Jungle Inferno update added 4 unused hats, 3 of which are reskins of the Monstrous Memento and the last of which is a reskin of the Aperture Labs Hard Hat. Although these hats are listed in the Mann Co. Catalog, they are currently unobtainable in-game:

Large-scale performance update

Shortly after the Mann-Conomy Update, Robin Walker discussed in an email with one of the community contributors a large-scale performance update in the works which would replace all W (World) and V (View) models with the new C (Combination) model type, as well as an update to the existing C models and the new C models with LODs. This update would significantly increase performance and allow for a greater range of community and Valve item replacements in later updates. In the updates released since this email was sent, a sizable portion of the game's C models have received LODs. Many more, however, are still to come.

Training Mode for the remaining classes

Training Mode for the remaining classes (Scout, Pyro, Heavy, Medic and Sniper) is to be released in a future update.
