Show preview
Please make use of the Show preview button. It gives you a preview of the edit you are making, allowing you to perfect your changes before you save the page. You can edit the whole article by clicking the edit button at the top of the page, which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 21:31, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
- You should see how much I am using that button on my sandbox subpages and contributions. Is there a problem? Ah, German/Germany, missed the typo, thanks. I usually try to remember to read my posts backwards to catch errors. Mikado282 (talk) 21:47, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
"You can edit the whole article ... which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively"
- Well, I like to use the Show preview button a lot; so, writing just a section at a time saves a lot on the context switch. This is why I make so much use of the subpages in the Sandbox -- I can make multiple section changes without polluting the history of a public page. I've been known to copy paragraphs I am editing to my Sandbox and work on it there, especially if I don't think I can get it done in one quick sitting (some edits I make and then let simmer for days or weeks) ... or think I will think of one more thing to add right after I save ... Mikado282 (talk) 22:59, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
- I just read Ashes' use of the Show preview template on User talk:DrPyspy. His additional comments made things a little clearer. I think the rank novice might not be familiar enough with wiki terminology and architecture to easily understand the point. I know I misunderstood User_talk:Darkid here. I think it takes a while for starters to realize that everything ends up on the Recent changes scroll, even Sandbox edits. Mikado282 (talk) 21:43, 28 June 2014 (PDT)

WAR! trivia
I may not be Piemanmoo but I can explain why in general what you wrote was not trivia
- The fountain statue represents the Norse god Template:W (Old One-Eye), holding his spear Template:W, bearing his two ravens Template:W ("Thought" and "Memory") on his shoulders, and sporting both an All-Father beard and an anachronistically horned rather than winged helmet. See also close-ups on Page 14.
Mere observation. Anyone can see this is a statue with these features it's not hidden or something that was not meant to be seen. The statue is plainly in your face and all you did was describe it.
- Odin's quest for wisdom is never-ending, and he is willing to pay any price -- he sacrificed his eye for a drink from Mímir's well. As soon revealed in Bombinomicon (comic), Demoman desired bomb-making "wisdom" and it cost him an eye.
From what i see (after re-reading the bombinomicon comic quickly) Travish (Demoman) he did not actually want to read the book, he did not know of any price, he was a curious young boy at the time who got tricked and as an end result lost an eye. At the same time however i can see where you are trying to go with this but have seen trivia with stronger relations than this get tossed out because it wasn't note worthy.
- Compare Demoman's reputation for heavy drinking to that of Odin, who ate no food, consuming only mead and wine.
Mere comparison. All you are doing is stating that the demoman drinks, that can be used to relate any problem drinking character. Sure they may do the same thing but this is just mere coincidence.
- Compare Soldier's squalor and paranoia to Demoman's wealth and refinement, as depicted in this and later comics.
Um what? i kept trying to read this to get what you were going on about here. Either i just cannot comprehend what you're trying to say here or you didn't proof read this piece of trivia. Regardless, the word "Compare" just tipped it off as mere comparison.
If you wish to dispute the trivia further please read up on the Trivia Guidelines and then make a new topic on the WAR comic discussion page if you still think your trivia should be on the page.
Thank you for understanding - Lexar - talk 00:16, 18 April 2014 (PDT)
- While I would very much like to respond to your time and effort here, and I thank you for volunteering your advice; but the fist step, according to the Trivia Guidelines is to give Piemanmoo the opportunity to comment on his page.
"If the person did not leave a reason or if you do not agree with their reason, consider asking them for an explanation or elaboration on their Talk page."
- As you are posibly aware; I have set my case out there. To discuss it here or at the WAR comic discussion page while the conversation is pending with Piemanmoo would not follow etiquette or follow the Guide. No, I have not discussed the last point (Solder/Demoman), there, but there will be time for that after resolution with Piemanmoo. Thank you for you offer of help, and I agree there may be some throw away. I hope to continue communicating with you on this at Piemanmoo's or at the War! page. Mikado282 (talk) 06:06, 18 April 2014 (PDT)
- Say, Lexar, thank you again for your comments. I did discuss this with Piemanmoo. I do still have some questions. While I enjoy the conversation, and it would be within protocol, I do not think it would be seemly to open this up on the WAR! comic discussion. It is only Trivia and the last thing I want is any chance of any impression of a pissing match. However, if you would like to talk with me here that would be fine. Please, consider me compulsively chatty rather than argumentative.
- In the Odin statue reference, my perspective was that I didn't think most younger gamers would recognize Odin. I camped with neo-pagans for twenty years and it still took me two years to bother to look closely at the actually rather strange statue. Maybe I'm am mistaken and in the 90's all the school children learned about Huginn and Muninn and all gamers read The Mighty Thor. Now, help me avoid the "Mere observation" pitfall in the future -- isn't Trivia like the first two points for the article also "Mere observation"? Anyone can see that some of these screens are references to "Meet the Spy". To me, that is obvious. The references are there and plainly in your face? So, is it also obvious and not noteworthy that several of the other screens are views from known camera locations on 2Fort or that three are views from the default spectator spawn point? Would not the camera views constitute an Easter egg hunt?
- The rest of the points are throwaway and I agree weak, but I would still like to see just the Oden reference mentioned.
- On my last point, I don't want you confused. I try to be terse in Trivia points. And maybe the point is both obvious and not noteworthy. And on reflection, maybe the point is more appropriate for a character profile than a Trivia section. What I wanted to write about was the contrasting personality traits of Demoman and Soldier, as portrayed in the comics. Soldier is crude where Demoman is refined. Solder eats delivery - Demoman makes proper tea for his mother. Soldier lives in cheap apartments, on the street, or as a unimaginably slovenly roommate - Demoman lives in a mansion. Solder is brash - Demoman is reserved. Soldier is insane - Demoman is rational. Soldier is threatening - Demoman is polite. I find the contrast interesting, but as I said above, such comparison is more appropriate for a profile or even a synopsis rather than a Trivia section.
- OK. Travish initially had no interest in the book - he was absolutely not curious (almost to the chagrin of Merasmus) until he was told it was about bombs, then he had to peek. Travish was not tricked, he was tempted - Bombinomicon did not lie. Travish acknowledged there was a risk - he only peeked with one eye. But over thinking ... Welcome template
I saw you welcomed a user recently and don't know about the template that's usually used. The template that is used is . Just thought I'd let you know that - Davo (Talk|Contribs) 03:24, 8 May 2014 (PDT)
- Thx. I knew or more correctly guessed that there was such a thing. Time was very short last night. And yes, I bet on a nice person doing what you did. What/Where are the instructions for use? Just paste in that subst template? Where? In the topic field? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikado282 (talk) • (contribs)
- Here go bud: Template:Welcome, if you wish to add another language, put a /"language-code". (Ex: ) [Please preview it before doing it, because not all languages have been translated. Also, never forget the ~~~~ :). I just don't know if you can greet people with the language that they've been editing even though you don't speak it (I forgot to confirm that on the IRC Channel). Gabrielwoj (talk) 18:38, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Hey, thanks! :) Yeah, I would think the rule of thumb would be to not talk to strangers in their language unless you know you speak their language better than they speak yours (I guess one doesn't have to speak the welcome script). That rule is tough for talking with Germans or Brits -- their language or dialect is so fun. :)
- I've welcomed once a person with the "de" language, after that, I wanted to ask about this on IRC, but I ended up forgetting. A person which edited "es" stuff those days I've greet him in English anyways. Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:11, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- boop boop, chiming in Yes, indeed - please only use the lang welcome templates if you speak the language in question. As for what language versions are available: /de, /es, /fi, /it, /ja, /nl, /pl, /ru. (contribs ▪ talk) 19:26, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Thanks for the note and sorry for my mistake, do you want I go back and edit his usertalk to the instead? Also, I plan to translate to pt-br as well. Someday... Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:30, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Nah, don't bother. Not a big deal anymore, just keep it in mind in the future. (contribs ▪ talk) 19:48, 25 May 2014 (PDT)

- Yea, go to his UserTalk, got to edit or add topic, and put this. Preview it before you save. I always do that, even that I copy and paste the subst:welcome. Don't put the info on his UserPage. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:46, 25 May 2014 (PDT)

- That was weird. So, also senses the user's language settings. That sort of answers Gabrielwoj's question, do I user the user's language? The template makes that decision for you? (forgot to check preview :( ) Mikado282 (talk) 06:55, 31 May 2014 (PDT)
- You can add the language , however, you should only greet him in his language if you have knowledge of it. If you don't know his language, greet him with instead. Gabrielwoj (talk) 07:09, 31 May 2014 (PDT)

For some reason, some of my png file extensions were upper case and I missed them when I uploaded them today.

thanks for the help
Just giving the memo thanking your contribution. I Personally don't think it needs to be removed but that doesn't mean I haven't considered your thought about the Medic and Scout mvm.
The Mighty Anus (talk) 06:43, 23 September 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, I got lost in the normal mess of the community strategy articles. Sorry I moved it. If I find typos or grammar issues in your edits, would you prefer that I mention them in your talk page or that I just make the simple edits? (note: mis-capitalization of it in "... more damage, It can ...".) I would also suggest that the MvM edits you made today should only have single bullets.
- I find it interesting that User:WindBOT forces the knockback to [knockback]]; but the change the BOT made is correct; the wiki automatically capitalizes the first character as needed, so I learn that the format I entered was not necessary to prevent redirect. Mikado282 (talk) 19:00, 23 September 2014 (PDT)
Oh please you shouldn't really need permission to do minor edits but having said that, if were to redo everything then yeah I would like it to be mentioned. Feel free to ruin everything jk. It's not like you were doing for the shits and giggles. The Mighty Anus (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2014 (PDT)

About your questions
On the tank page that your recently edited you asked some questions on it so I am here to answer them
1) The tank is fully bot controled from the moment it is spawned in and you have no control of it once you choose it's spawn point
2) You cannot spawn in payload carts into other game modes without plug-ins so I have no idea of their behavior
Hope that is enough infomation for youPadacuw (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2017 (PDT)
- Thank you. I had always figured that it worked like a bomb cart at fixed speed on fixed, invisible tracks. If you made and added a demo video of what you tested, I would watch it. Now that I mention it, the article is missing a video of the tanks in MVM combat (there may already be a suitable one uploaded). Mikado282 (talk) 19:14, 20 June 2017 (PDT)
Hi me again
Hi you seem to be an experienced and friendly guy so I was wondering if you could explain to me how to request a merge as I am fairly new and don't know much about the site.Padacuw (talk) 18:54, 23 June 2017 (PDT)
- I would start at Help:Maintenance templates. Hmmmm...pitiful guidance there. Template:Merge at least has one useful sentence; I have never started one, but that looks right. Put the tag on the page you want to disappear into another. Also, add a topic for the merge to the talk page of that page.
- When there is is no guidance here, guidance from Wikipedia can help; lots of instruction there.
- Here is one of my secret techniques: Google this
- site:https://wiki.teamfortress.com "merge"
- There are no active examples of merges going on; but this search will bring up TFwiki talk pages where mergers were discussed. Mikado282 (talk) 19:39, 23 June 2017 (PDT)

Big thanks
I saw you edited Hellstone map page a quite a bit. Thanks for that. Had fun reading it and the things you added, you got almost everything on it correctly how i thought it out! -ics
- You're welcome. And, thank You! Such a kind compliment from the developer! I figured even if it is not official Storyline, there is at least a map Storyline (I couldn't help but think of the still unidentified figure in the Family Photo). Let me know if there is anything you want me to correct or add. I am giving Brimstone a similar treatment (if you don't mind); I have done some work on it and have a lot more to do on it; but real life has intervened, again, for a few months. I really do like Hellstone a lot. I especially enjoy the lengthy narrowness of the Road to Hell and the collection of good starter-level jumps available to RED team. The combination of so many access ways in such a tight location makes Monoculusmos Monsterinus interesting, too. Mikado282 (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2017 (PDT)
- No prob, go ahead for Brimstone too if you like. I also have something coming up in my sleeve for this halloween but i'm not too confident that i would get a 3rd map in a row to the game. Thanks again! Ics (talk) 02:39, 20 August 2017 (PDT)
- Re. 12.5% in the blurb. In single-player testing, I have not seen HHH for some time and ever see MONOCULUS, I can't quite assume that the odds of either appealing is 1 in 8. Merasmus doesn't always appear, but it is much more frequent than the others.
- Also, I want to add "shake" and "poison gas" to Environmental death. Are there more appropriate names for those effects? Mikado282 (talk) 05:26, 22 August 2017 (PDT)
There is a system that picks randomly 1 option of 16 total selections on upon capture of B or C points for HHH. This means that 2 of the options are HHH, the rest are just howls. This is where the 12,5% comes, as the HHH can spawn when both points are captured, if the players are really unlucky or doesn't spawn in many rounds at all. Same stats go for monoculus on D capture. 2 options are monoculus, the rest are dummy sounds.
Merasmus appears only when there is a game where the cart stays between final cap and D cap for a long time as in time spent there between 6,666666666666667 minutes (400 seconds) and 7 minutes (420 seconds). There is a hellish joke hidden there with the number 666. Anyway, then the merasmus comes and tries to finish off the game by either helping or making it harder. Depends how teams work on him.
The shake and poison gas you are referring to are more like earthquake and hot steam coming out from the hell under the world. Those things happen around between A and C points only. Let me know if i can help you out more. Ics (talk) 07:57, 22 August 2017 (PDT)
- Thanks. I can work with that (when things ease up here). Is there a minimum player count for any spawns?
- On Hellstone, should I bother spectating around the back of Red Base next Halloween to see what that hidden Ghost does? Mikado282 (talk) 11:38, 22 August 2017 (PDT)
Minimum player count - what do you mean by this? There are 16 spawns per team in each spawnroom. As for the ghost in hellstone, it's not exactly hidden, just out of sight. It has it's purpose when the cart starts dropping to the pit. The actual ghost in the cart gets replaced by that hidden one and it starts going down to the pit. For technical reasons, i couldn't make the one in the cart move as it is tied to the cart itself. Ics (talk) 14:04, 22 August 2017 (PDT)
- Re. Minimum player count: On Eyeaduct, MONOCULUS spawnings require at least 10 players on the server, yet only one player is needed on Hellstone. I have yet to to see MONOCULUS spawn for only one player on Brimstone.
- Thank you for the explanation of the hidden Ghost. Worth a note at some point. Mikado282 (talk) 18:02, 22 August 2017 (PDT)
Ah, that one. The way Valve spawns the bosses is different from what we can use. They have functions in the game that allow certain things that we cant do. So we do it the raw way, which doesn't enable such fanciness as taking count of players or knowing when the boss is actually dead in the map. But stuff works, thats the main thing. Any boss can spawn despite players being 1 or 4 or 20. Ics (talk) 08:45, 23 August 2017 (PDT)
- I haven't completely tested the underworld destinations of Brimstone: I see an area I assume is for MONOCULUS teleports (I haven't seen MONOCULUS in testing) and the other area is for when the calliope is playing (is this the same place you go if you jump in the Bombinomicon when you beat Merasmus? (I think I managed that once))
- There is a general problem in collective treatment of the "underworld" locations, they don't seem to be consistently named, so I wonder how you named them on both maps. This presently makes for a mess in Environmental death.
- Effectively, there are just a few types of underworld; where you go when you use MONOCULUS teleport jumps, where you go when you beat the boss/win the round/take Bombinomicon jumps, and where you go to deliver souls etc. They really only differ by how you get there and the buffs you get when leaving.
- I am a little disappointed that it is "steam" and not "poison gas", like hydrogen sulfide. Well, volcanic steam often has hydrogen sulfide (which condenses into yellow "brimstone", IIRC). I may just call it "vapors" in the Environmental death section. Mikado282 (talk) 16:34, 24 August 2017 (PDT)
The underworld itself is 2 part, the first part where you exit from the skull is the "purgatory" area, which in hellstone was the area where you go from upper way to down to the white door. Here, you exit by the big portal. This is the place where you enter when going either through monoculus warp portal or the coffins when the music plays to get those rare spells. The other area is the loot area, where you enter by either beating monoculus or merasmus itself. Difference in hellstone was, that these 2 areas, purgatory and loot were completely separate areas while in this they are united as one, but separated different. The underworld/hell itself is vague thing, and used in different maps in different ways. Valve uses underworld name for areas of water and hell for areas for lava. Both work the same entity wise.
The steam can be gas, but its coming from the ground itself while there is steamy visual effect and lava bits coming out of the ground as well as shaking. It doesnt matter what it really is, but its gonna hurt you if you stay in it. Ics (talk) 12:59, 27 August 2017 (PDT)
- Big thanks for the time and information you've given me here. I think I can see the underworld/Hell distinction, still there is not really a clear usage from map to map for places you get transported to for different reasons. Where it gets to be a problem for an article is when a map has two more more underworld destinations. (others can weigh in) I have looked for discussions on the this topic but have found none. I may make a cataloging of the underworlds -- maybe I wasn't thorough enough on Halloween map. (then there is overworld) For the Brimstone (map) article I am working on, I think I can get away with "Hell island" and just talk about the two sides without trying to name them.
- If MONOCULUS is defeated, does the portal go to the "loot" side?
- "Those (steam) things happen around between A and C points only". I have seen it also near the dump truck, I have wondered if it is a local effect or not, does it happen at only one place or at all of the listed places at the same time?
- Steam for volcanic gas might be a translation factor (Kummitus); yes, volcanic gas is mostly water vapor, but it is not the water that is the main hazard, but I will go with (scalding) steam.
- I can't work on it this weekend, but I might finish Brimstone next weekend. Mikado282 (talk) 18:46, 31 August 2017 (PDT)
Saving the environment one step at a time
About your latest edit on environmental death. First off, neato job, pretty concise and well done.
Got a few questions/concerns though.
For steam, you wrote this:
The time and area of effect is indicated by a rising cloud of vapor and fluid splashes (cf. Pumpkin bomb explosions).
Should we change that "cf." a bit? I'm gonna be honest, I had no idea what it meant until I searched it up. It's sophisticated and all, but I have a feeling not many people browsing a wiki made for a first-person shooter video game will be as educated in that as you are (e.g. me). Not the biggest issue though, so doesn't matter much if it stays.
Then for shake. Before I say anything I guess the first thing that needs to be cleared up is the definition of "environmental hazard" in this case, or mostly just "hazard". Obviously shake doesn't do any damage, but as you pointed out, it does disorient players, and could theoretically give a tactical advantage to one team.
If it does stay, well, there's the other issue of that it exists for not just Halloween maps, but also lots of others. Big example. Payload maps. Cart falls in the pit, boom, a large shake for a second. It's not a major gameplay element and doesn't affect much, but it's there. Also, there is the console command "shake" that emulates the effect, not sure if that deserves a mention (probs not).
The effect may be available for other maps as well, but I can't think of any right now except for the cart explosion.
Lastly, you made this edit:
Merasmachievements
(formatting is off, sorry)
For reference, "T table" was previously "Achievement table".
Unfortunately, Template:T table does not exist, so I've replaced it with the original unless you want to revert/fix it.
Anyways, that's all for now. Keep up the good work. You've done me proud. ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 15:26, 6 September 2017 (PDT)
- cf. :: occupational hazard of a professional technical writer (and increasing the reading level of gamers is part of how I rationalize participating here. ;)
- T table :: just an unintended, unnoticed, fumble-finger T typo. T hank you for the catch.
- Shake :: Yeah, I know its inclusion here is shakey. I bounced the idea around in my head for a while. 1) first thought of where to put it was here, especially if it still broke Sniper and Ambassador charges, but yes, its kind of like a critical stickey jumper, all the pushback but 3 times zero damage 2) it does tie closely with severe environmental hazard, as a warning of impending severe injury (this Halloween, I want verify that the shake precedes the instant death by MONOCULUS spawning.) 3) it could be its own article, (if not already actually covered somewhere) but that would be way down my to do list. Mikado282 (talk) 19:11, 6 September 2017 (PDT)
- ooh, we got a professional technical writer here
- should we at least include a link to the wikipedia article or something, because for whatever reason i only thought to google it while writing this and not before
- you said "T hank" for "T table" haha xddd
- ok, so shake will be left there for now; however, what about the fact that it exists on other (e.g. payload) maps
- currently your "list of maps that have shake" only has halloween maps
- dont think it really deserves a standalone article anywhere, in any case as you said not high priority ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 17:00, 7 September 2017 (PDT)
- Yeah, lately I have been splitting my time between hydraulic valves and Badlands Mountain Lab rockets.
- Link for what? cf.? Nah. I did replace it for you.
- It doesn't have Doomsday? Doomsday has big shakes. If it isn't single-stage payload, Halloween, or a few if the newer CPs with high win count achievements, I haven't played it much, so I will rely on others here. But I don't think of the Payload explosion as an example of shake. It's an explosion. Mikado282 (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2017 (PDT)
okey
k, didn't catch those, got it.
In this, is the "from" in the quote's description needed? ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 12:23, 7 October 2017 (PDT)
- Thanks for this thread. ICS gave me an ice cream cone for that edit! (and approved the creative license) But, it's a shame to have spent 40 some hours on the article over two months, some nights just to tired to edit for even an hour after coding then painting all day (11-12 hours), and checking it front and back 3 (or more times) times, and still having so many missing/wrong words. :( Thank you for the fixes. :)
- I really appreciate you working with me on Biggy Wiggy, you really made that joke work! I have been holding on to that card since 1969 and finally got to play it.
- Oo! Oo! Oo! Can you also also find the clip for the Great Prophet Zarquon? (the 1981 TV series) That would really make the joke. It fits Merasmus, you think?
- The "from" felt like the shorthand way to say "excerpt from the" workshop description. Workshop material is not canon on this wiki, that why I feel free to correct the second-language capitalization.
- IMO, the quote shouldn't be much bigger than the image. Mikado282 (talk) 17:41, 7 October 2017 (PDT)
- @Anyar: re: from: I mean, I felt a need for a brief qualifier. If you think the "from" is unnecessary or could be replaced with better wording, I'm open to it. Mikado282 (talk) 10:23, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
i wanna ice cream cone too :(glad to hear!- Darn, I really appreciate all the effort you're putting into this. You're like the technical overhaul guy for the wiki right now. A few words isn't bad by far for such large edits especially when the content is still amazing.
- Biggy Wiggy!
- For the 1981 TV series? Probably not. If you want, you can try to find it in the 2005 movie if it exists. Here's a link to the full movie on YouTube and in case it's needed here is a link to the script with the famous quote at the end. I've never watched the movie or read the book so I'm unfamiliar with the scenes.
- Quote size makes sense.
- I only pointed out the "from" because pretty much every other quote on this wiki just removes the "from" entirely, e.g. it's always "-Meet the Spy" instead of "-from Meet the Spy".
- Cheers! ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 15:22, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
- "Er, look, I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I've had the most ghastly time, all sorts of things cropping up at the last moment." That sort of fits the situation I think. I might be able use it if Gravestone gets released this Halloween.
- Here's the clip! :) In Hungarian. Zarquon próféta eljövetele
- I appreciate your thinking on "from", I agree that it is understood with out it on the video quotes, but I felt that in the case of workshop descriptions, I should not imply "the" (whole) workshop description.
- Thank you again for your kind words. Mikado282 (talk) 16:07, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
- Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, that does indicate that it isn't the full description. Nice catch, and no problem, mate. ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 16:41, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
- So, Zarquon promised his followers that he would return, and there they are, still waiting, when he shows up 30 seconds before the end of the Universe. Yeah, well, all gamers my age read it. Mikado282 (talk) 20:37, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
all gamers my age
- well there's the issue ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 07:35, 9 October 2017 (PDT)

sorry i didn't know
thanks for telling me that, i didn't know. i just wanted to jump to an early start because i have never edited a page before. I'm technically new to the wiki. I've used the wiki for years but haven't had an account until now. So thanks alot!

- It's cool. Also, when replying to post on a talk page, reply under that post on the same talk page. Mikado282 (talk) 19:54, 19 October 2017 (PDT)
Thanks for taking over map pages
I used to do the map pages myself, so I'm really happy to see someone doing the hard stuff like locations in my place. You know how to do screenshots?
Also, what's your nationality. I nominated you for a Wiki Cap, so I wanted to know for the table. -- Dr. Scaphandre 16:41, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
- U.S.A. When I get the chance to get to the computer to edit, all the active senior editors have logged out.
- Thank you. How do the screen shots for Hellstone and Brimstone (map) work for you? They are just screen caps in noclip. They aren't the best resolution. I have never really bothered with the in-game screen save. Mikado282 (talk) 16:49, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
- The map articles usually take me weeks of stolen (not so) spare time. The last two location stubs are incomplete so they took only a few hours of exploring. Am I stealing your date? Mikado282 (talk) 16:55, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
- Alright I got your nationality down now. Thanks for that.
- The screenshots actually really need a lot of work. I noticed your targeting cursor is still there, and they're weirdly cropped.
- What you should do is input every one of the console commands here as they increase the quality of the screenshots and make them a lot more professional. I would recommend you try this out with the new maps then redo your old screenshots with this method. Also, don't use the ingame screenshot. It turns them into low quality JPEGs. Use Print Screen instead. That'll make the screenshots into higher quality PNGs instead, which is what we like to strive for. Then just use editing software to crop the image if the print screen got some parts it shouldn't have. I always use GIMP for my editing. -- Dr. Scaphandre 17:08, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
- I try to do most of my shots in spectator for much of the same reasons some of the commands in that list. But on maps like ICS's, I have to be a player to trigger some events, so these commands will help. I have cropped out a lot of crosshairs, weapons, and HUD for that. That alone will improve a lot of quality. I have always used screen print. I have been bothered by my screen resolution, and have been concerned that my quality was limited by that. Maybe other image quality commands will help that. The croc picture I couldn't get correct and will try this, so, let's try that again.
- The stub Locations in Enclosure and Mercenary Park, are just that (I wonder if I should have doubled down on the Stub tag and put an explicit one in the last two Locations). I wanted to influence the future contributors to follow the themes the mappers built into the maps. Pictures may come later, I really don't have shoot set up in my head yet. Hellstone wrote itself, Brimstone much less so, and I haven't had enough time with the new maps to figure them out. Mikado282 (talk) 19:19, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
Got something that could help you involving contract stars
Hey man, I got the VTF for the Contract stars and uploaded it, so now for the future instead of typing 'star', we can put an image in, you know, to spiff some things up. I feel these will be used in the future for other updates that give contracts. MikeMan2332 (talk) 09:22, 1 November 2017 (PDT)
