The Ancient Ones
I actually looked up the Convoy page; yeah, that is the first map I remember seeing my son playing (around 2011). He got me to try the game, (it was Dustblow).
Well, looking at the page, I got curious about the Talk page. Ah-ha, we should look through the talk pages of the "Ancient" map for records of notability discussions. One wonders what one might still be able to find the community commentary archives about these maps.

Convoy
I just checked, at 9PM (July 17, 2021) there were 5 servers hosting the 2008 Convoy map. It has been a long time since I was on it (the only one of this class I have ever played) ...
- Convoy was made in the first year of The Orange Box.
- Possibly the first map with Pitfall (confirm) Candidate for historic map?
- A Convoy page existed on the original unofficial TF Wiki.
- Some popularity, still hosted on Community servers.

Adding some of the (many) newer maps
Hi Mikado! I've been following your community notability project for a little while, and have been trying to clean up a few pages - particularly the Custom MvM ones here and there.
I believe Firewatch (map) will now be covered under 'has an existing variant' (Frostwatch), and can be added to the table. I wasn't sure if you wanted me editing this page, so I haven't done it yet - but if it's okay with you, I'd also like to add some of the newer custom MvM maps to this page. Let me know how'd you'd like me to proceed with that.
Thanks! Epsilonal (talk) 05:17, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Popular Custom Maps
Hello,
Apologies if there is the incorrect place to ask for map assessments, I have found no where else that had talks relating to this subject other than a direct request of a mod. It seemed a little informal a process to go to one and I found no mention of it in my readings of the texts here, so I assumed this would be my best bet. Anyways, I wanted to ask for custom map notability assessments of these maps.
- Sees significant use: Community servers for the past 9 years have consistently run this server and is one of the only maps left to have dedicated servers to them.
- Arguably one of the most popular TF2 maps in media in the modern era.
- Muselk Video with 4 million views
- Used within Memes in the last few years: Example 1, Example 2
- Video from last yearish receiving 300k views
- History Making: Technically helped establish the TF2 map trend of taking traditional maps and making them ridiculous in some way.
- Used frequently in game media:
- TF2Wiki demonstrations (duh)
- Custom Weapon Demonstrations use them as well: Joke Weapon Demonstration with 108k views from this month
- Used by Youtubers like "SquimJim" to test weapons.
- Made into a stage for the game "Rivals of Aether"
- Sees Significant Use:*
- Although there are no community servers running this map, the volume of people running this map to test things about the game is very consistent as evident by the content being produced online.
- Sees significant use: Though its popularity has fallen off in recent times, throughout the lifetime of the game this map has been played as frequently as servers like trade_plaza and the trade_minecraft.
- Used frequently in game media:
- One of the most popular TF2 GMOD videos ever takes place on a variant of this map, Team Fabulous 2.
- Videos nowadays still cover the map
- It's not an assessment yet (and it may take a very long time until I do one), but I think tr_karma would be weird. It's essentially a community-created map that doesn't have any gameplay but is just a room. It feels weird to include this as a map article, it's similar to Example, pass_template, or itemtest but it's unofficial instead. Not a definite disqualification, just my personal opinion. I think Highertower would fit, but most of these maps would also qualify by similar standards. My issue with this would then be that the maps don't cover much except 'this is the original map, but with one gimmick added'. I would, instead, suggest a section on the Community fads article explaining the fad of extended maps (but please open a talk page discussion about it beforehand).

- I can agree with everything else, but I think plr_highertower is a special case out of these maps due to how long its held onto relevance as well as the amount of variants it has. Technically nowadays the most popular version of plr_highertower is plr_highertower_extended, a version that modifies the map to add locations and removes the majority of boundaries. Because of these variants, the article wouldn't just be a repeat of plr_hightower but a single mention of the tower being higher and have more stuff to cover like Orange_X. A community fad would be good for the topic of this genre of maps as a whole, but out of all the maps it produced highertower in my mind definitely deserves more than a mention within that.
- Generally you don't really ask for assessments, they're done when a new article is put on mainspace but you've kind of just done the assessment itself (verification is needed though). The issue with Highertower is that the article will be 1:1 identical to Hightower, except for specifying that the map has a very tall tower instead. It's better to have this listed as a fad, because if Highertower gets its way there's no reason that Turbine, 2Fort, Well, etc. aren't getting their own versions. There's nothing to cover on the map. For the extended version, it's a modification of the original gimmick map and that's the one we should be covering as it started it all. A fad is better as it'll cover the entire chain of events of the original being created and then having many more versions created after it on different maps, instead of simply covering 'this map is identical to the original, except for X and Y gimmick'.
