Jump to: navigation, search

This page lists various tasks that need doing on the Team Fortress Wiki. If you want to get involved, but don't know where to start, then look down this list for any tasks which need completing.

Note: there may be portions of this page that are out of date. If you are unsure about a particular task, you can ask someone in the IRC channel.

On-going tasks

These are the tasks that are on-going maintenance work, or which are part of on-going projects that will take a significant period of time to complete.

For administrators

The following tasks can only be carried out by moderators.

Marked for deletion

These categories should normally be empty. Any articles in these categories are deletion requests and should be checked out. All sub-categories should be checked and if the criteria have been met then the article(s) should be deleted.

Requested moves

This category should normally be empty. Any articles in this category are requests for articles to be moved. If the criteria have been met then the article should be moved and the template removed.

For any user

The following tasks can be carried out by all users.

Partake in active discussions

See also Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion

Partake in the active discussions regarding articles or files to decide what action should be taken toward them - used for listing discussions regarding merging, moving or deleting articles - and "other" discussions requiring user input. Sometimes also used to remind users of certain things.

Fix double redirects

Double redirects are when one page redirects to another which is itself a redirect. This should be fixed by modifying the original page to redirect to the final destination.

Add to articles listed as Stubs

Stubs are articles which are usually short and need additional content. If you believe you have added enough content, even if the article is not finished, remove the {{Stub}} from the article.

Improve recent additions

Shortly after the addition of new items/maps/features etc. it is hard to decipher fact from speculation. For example when new weapons are released, most editors don't have access to it and can't check claims about it.

Clean up articles

The great thing about the Team Fortress Wiki is that anyone can contribute. The downside to this is that articles can become messy and the contents may not be easy to read. Readers should be presented with articles that are a 'good read' and easily flow between one another. To bring some consistency to the wiki, the Team Fortress Wiki style guide was introduced which should be followed when cleaning up articles.

Check recent uploads

All uploads should be tagged with an appropriate license, or marked for deletion (as appropriate). If you are unsure about which license should be applied, use the tag {{unknown}} and ask the uploader to fill in the correct details via their talk page.

Add categories to any uncategorised pages, images and categories

You will need to familiarise yourself with our categorisation scheme first. Note that the Category:Main, Category:Team Fortress Wiki and Category:Languages are our three top-level categories and should remain uncategorized themselves.

Recent changes patrol

Check through the list of recent changes (particularly new pages) to catch vandalism/spam. If existing pages are vandalised then the changes should be reverted. If new junk pages are created, they should be marked for deletion.

Create missing category pages

Check the list of missing categories, and check whether the articles in the category are in the right place. If not, update the category links on the article(s) in question. If they are, then add a category page, ensuring that you categorize it so it shows up in the right place in the tree. For non-English categories, copy the categories from the English version: i.e. if Category:Weapons has Category:Items and Category:Gameplay, then Category:Weapons/ja should have the same (but /ja versions).

Fix orphaned pages

Pages that haven't been linked to will show as orphaned. No pages should exist that do not have links from other articles because readers will have no way to find them. If the contents of the articles listed as orphaned are useful, find a related article and create a link to it. If the contents are not useful, they should be marked for deletion.
Note: /to do pages will show as orphaned, however as these pages may well get reused there is no need to mark these pages for deletion.

Fix dead end pages

Opposite to orphaned pages, dead end pages have no links from them which means readers will have nowhere to go but back. Pages showing in the list should be updated to provide links out of the article; if the contents are not useful or old, they should be also be marked for deletion using one of the deletion templates.

Images that need improving

If you are good with the Model Viewer and Photoshop there are a number of images that need general improvements in this category. See also Team Fortress Wiki:Images.

Contribute to the Weapon Demonstration project

This project aims to add video demonstrations to all weapons. Users are encouraged to create such videos, according to certain guidelines.

For translators

If you are new to the wiki and just beginning to translate, see Help:Language translation for a better introduction.

Translate templates with translation switching

here is a full list of translatable templates. Be sure to read the guide on this as well. There is also a list of templates that don't have any translations added yet here.

Translate the Main Page

the main page should be the gateway to the rest of the wiki's content in your language. See Template:Main Page layout to translate elements of the main layout. There are also subtemplates which hold current events ({{Current Events}}), the featured article ({{FeaturedArticle}}), and the "Did you know" items ({{Did you know main}}).

Translate a heap of articles

the main important thing. If you can't find articles to translate, start with the most important ones first: Class pages (Scout, Soldier, etc) -> Weapons / Hats -> Gameplay. Or, look at Special:PopularPages and translate the ones missing in your language.

Retranslate outdated ones

see Category:Pages requiring retranslation. Articles in this category have been tagged because they differ significantly from the English page, however, the list is not complete.

Task requests

If there are any general tasks that need doing but which you either don't have the time, skill or user-rights to perform then please list your request under the appropriate section here, and sign it with your name and date.

For administrators

After the recent change, on the Scout page, the stats for the Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol haven't been changed. (From +7 to +3 health per shot) Thanks, HairySloth, April 11th 2018

For administrators

Could the edit notice at the top of the anti-class strategy articles be moved to be an actual edit notice? Same goes for the rest of the anti-class pages. For example, Anti-Scout strategy. Thanks - LingoSalad (talk) 23:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Editnotice if you need it. - LingoSalad (talk) 00:53, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

For any user

The reload bug listed for each Rocket Launcher was described differently despite them all being the same, I do believe it to be a good change to make to each non-English page as well, as the consistency it brings is good for the Wiki IMO. Here's looking at you translators. Thenyproject 01:15, 8 August 2011 (PDT)

Same applies for the Heavy melee bug, the Frontier Justice/Family Business/Reserve Shooter/Shotgun bug, and the Fishcake/Dalokohs Bar/Buffalo Steak bug. SS2R 01:21, 9 August 2011 (PDT)

Not that important, but if you are bored you can browse the Disambiguation pages, check the "What links here" link (e.g. Control Point), and fix the links on those page where applicable. User SackZement signature.gifSackZement <Talk> 11:46, 3 September 2011 (PDT)

First links to the mvm mann up second to all botkiller weapons. δ³Σx² > Add + or - skills for me 18:40, 21 September 2012 (PDT)

This is actually in {{avail}} or {{Dictionary/templatecore}}. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 12:10, 6 December 2013 (PST)

Could someone add screenshot images for the ones required on this page:[1]. I would do it however due to my crappy PC the quality will be horrible. (also two of the maps I couldn't find the actual map file so some research may be required. Ashes 03:39, 13 December 2012 (PST)

Done. Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 12:10, 6 December 2013 (PST)

Can someone upload set images for the Boston Bulldog, Count Tavish, Doctor Galactic, Gravelpit Emperor, Invasion, Malice in Pyroland, Murky Lurker, Sun King, and Terracotta Trooper? Darkid (Talk|Contribs) 12:32, 6 December 2013 (PST)

The Community Strategy Project is now up and running. For a while, strategy pages have been ignored, some redlinked for years. After big updates like Gun Mettle a lot of strategy pages have been left without updates. If you have any tips and tricks or are great at writing guides, feel free to join up. --Dr. Scaphandre (talk) 16:43, 7 November 2015 (PST)

Seeing how the W template has been deprecated for years, we might as well go through the list of transcluding pages and replace usage of the template with standard syntax (see template documentation) for links to Wikipedia. I've finished with all of the English content that isn't a Talk, User, or Protected page, all that's left are pages in the other languages. If anybody who is fluent in other languages happens to be bored, this is an option that should be nice for them. --Kincyr (talk) 15:49, 3 May 2017 (PDT)

This is something I've noticed and it kinda annoys me, but I don't know how to fix it. All of the cosmetics I've looked at have a script error in the Availability section. I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it, and I feel this is important info that isn't showing up. Thanks for the concern. -Link13297 (Talk to me) 14:16, February 4th, 2018 (EST)
