Item sets are a game concept introduced in the Mann-Conomy Update, which applies new attributes (such as greater damage resistance, immunity from headshots, etc.) to the wearer when all items in the set are equipped. There are currently five items sets, all of which are from the Polycount Pack.
Since Valve is of the opinion that game-changing effects should be available for every player within a reasonable amount of time, hats included in these sets are the only hats in the game to have guaranteed crafting blueprints (not including the Bonk Helm), requiring four Refined Metal and any Polycount Pack weapon from the set you want to craft the hat for.

Bugs
- Due to how the bullet vulnerability is calculated, certain non-bullet weapons deal 10% more damage to a Gas Jockey's Gear Pyro. This includes the Syringe Gun, all melee weapons, the Targe Bash, and most taunt attacks.
- Snipers who have the entire Croc-O-Style Kit equipped can die to headshots if they have 1 health point. This is either a bug, or a misconception caused by the set bonus description.
