The regular Scout robots are some of the most common bots in Mann vs. Machine. Like the regular Scout, they are fast but vulnerable. To counteract their fragility, they often come in large numbers. Typically, Scout-bots wield only the default Bat, making them a relatively minor threat outside of sneaking behind the defenders' lines to an undefended bomb. Sometimes, these robots are seen to wield the Scattergun, making them far more dangerous up close. For some difficult missions, they sometimes appear with a permanent Crit boost, making them even more dangerous if they manage to overrun a player.

These variants can be easily distinguished from Minor League Scouts by their Hanger-On Hoods and their notable jumping ability. They sometimes hit a baseball as they jump very high, and in doing so, they can dodge enemy attacks and slow players. This makes it more difficult for classes that rely on splash damage or precision, such as Soldiers or Snipers, to deal damage.

Bonk Scouts are equipped with Bonk! Atomic Punch and Bonk Helms, hence their name. Upon spawning, Bonk Scouts immediately drink their Bonk! and charge onto the battlefield. While they are invulnerable for the first few seconds of their lives, they have no special characteristics once the effect wears off, and are likely to die before they can use the Bonk! again.

This variant is similar to the previously mentioned Force-A-Nature Scout variant except it has +50% more knockback power, +10% faster reload speed, and 250 unit longer vision on top of guaranteed Critical hits. However, these bots become weaker when all gates have been captured, losing the extra vision and -30% of knockback their power, but they retain the reload speed as well as their guaranteed Critical hits. Gatebot Force-A-Nature Scouts can only be seen in the final wave of Metro Malice.

This tough, bulky version of the Scout robot comes equipped with the Shortstop, a size increase, and move speed bonus. However they are extremely rare, only showing up a single time in wave 5 of Empire Escalation, where they are given 100% Crit chance. They also have notably poor aim, making them almost solely bomb runners.

The Super Scout is the fastest robot in the game, moving far faster than all other robots and outpacing most players easily. They can be identified by their Bonk Boy and Holy Mackerel. They are neither dangerous in combat nor particularly durable, but they can very quickly deliver the bomb and end a round against unprepared teams. It is highly recommended to focus fire on this robot rather than others, especially if it manages to get the bomb. Super Scouts do not run at the actual speed their +100% movement speed buff gives, but are only increased by 30%.

This variant of the Giant Scout is essentially a giant version of the Hyper League Scout with decreased speed. It will rapidly fire Sandman balls if there is someone in range, and as such it has a high potential to permanently slow down a player if given the chance. It should be treated with caution, as with the other Sandman-wielding Giant Scouts. They only appear in Waves 1 and 5 of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).

The Giant Bonk Scout is similar to a regular Giant Scout, except that they also use their Bonk! Atomic Punch to run through the area, invincible for several seconds at a time. This may cause an extremely quick end to a round when they show up, unless the defenders focus fire on them to cause them to slow down once the Bonk effect has expired. They only appear in the end of the fifth wave of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).

Force-A-Nature Super Scouts are simply giant versions of the Force-A-Nature Scouts with changes to their speed and knockback. However, due to their larger size and health, they should be treated with great caution. Just like its smaller variant, its Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with its Bolt Boy and doesn't appear.

The Giant Jumping Sandman Scout is far more dangerous than its smaller counterpart, being able to jump higher than normal with a faster ball recharge rate and significantly higher damage. They can easily jump to higher areas to dodge the players' bullets, so they should be killed quickly. Occasionally, they have a hard time deploying the bomb as they are forced to jump even while doing so. They appear only in Wave 3 of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).

Scout Robots appear in Mann vs. Machine as enemies.

Scout Type Scattergun

The regular Scout robots are some of the most common bots in Mann vs. Machine. Like the regular Scout, they are fast but vulnerable. To counteract their fragility, they often come in large numbers. Typically, Scout-bots wield only the default Bat, making them a relatively minor threat outside of sneaking behind the defenders' lines to an undefended bomb. Sometimes, these robots wield the Scattergun, making them far more dangerous up close. For some difficult missions, they sometimes appear with a permanent Crit boost, making them even more dangerous if they manage to overrun a player.

Minor League Scout

These Scouts are equipped with the Batter's Helmet and the Sandman, which the robots use to a great extent. The Minor League Scout will attempt to slow players as it moves towards the bomb. If it manages to slow a player, it may make it easier for other robots to either deal damage or deliver the bomb, though this is a non-issue for an organized front line.

Hyper League Scout

These variants are nearly identical to Minor League Scouts, the only difference being that Hyper League Scouts recharge their baseballs much faster. As such, players may be continuously slowed for a longer period of time.

Jumping Sandman Scout

These variants can be easily distinguished from Minor League Scouts by their Hanger-On Hoods and their notable jumping ability. They sometimes hit a baseball as they jump very high, and in doing so, they can dodge enemy attacks and slow players. This makes it more difficult for classes that rely on splash damage or precision, such as Soldiers or Snipers, to deal damage. They only appear on the third wave of Big Apple Barricade.

Bonk Scouts are equipped with Bonk! Atomic Punch and Bonk Helms, hence their name. Upon spawning, Bonk Scouts immediately drink their Bonk! and charge onto the battlefield. While they are invulnerable for the first few seconds of their lives, they have no special characteristics once the effect wears off. They will always use Bonk! every time it is fully recharged, and is able to carry the bomb while under its effects. Knockback sources like explosive weapons and compression blast can push back Bonk Scouts carrying the bomb until the effect wears off.

Force-A-Nature Scouts are similar to the normal Scouts, but instead always have the Force-a-Nature equipped, making them capable of knocking players away easily. This knockback ability is accentuated by the large groups Force-a-Nature Scouts typically spawn in. They are easy to identify, due to their Bolt Boy. Strangely, their Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with the Bolt Boy, and thus does not appear in-game.

This tough, bulky version of the Scout robot comes equipped with the Shortstop, a size increase, immunity to gate stuns and move speed bonus. However they are extremely rare, only showing up a single time in wave 5 of Empire Escalation, where they are given a permanent Crit boost.

Unlike other Giant Scouts, Super Scouts are worse in tracking capabilities for melee combat, but this indirectly makes it harder for Snipers to land headshots due to its erratic aiming[1]

A bigger and far more dangerous version of the Minor League Scout, with the same loadout. However the Major League Scout can shoot its baseballs far more often, hitting a ball approximately every two seconds. The Major League Scout moves at the same speed as its smaller counterparts, and when combined with its slowing baseballs, it can often be the cause of a round failure. Constantly strafe from side to side and attack it from a distance to dodge its attacks.

The Armored Sandman Scout is a bulky, but slower Giant Scout Robot. It will rapidly fire Sandman balls if there is someone in range, and as such it has a high potential to permanently slow down a player if given the chance. It should be treated with caution, as with the other Sandman-wielding Giant Scouts. They only appear in Waves 1 and 5 of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, on Mannhattan).

Pictogram plus.png +45% faster reload rate

The Giant Bonk Scout is similar to a regular Giant Scout, except that they also use their Bonk! Atomic Punch to run through the area, invincible for several seconds at a time. Due to the higher recharge rate for its Bonk! Atomic Punch, this may cause a quick end to a round when they show up, unless the defenders focus fire to cause them to slow down once the Bonk! effect has expired, since they are less affected by knockback sources compared to their regular counterparts.

They have much more knockback power than the normal Force-a-Nature Scouts, easily launching players (including Heavies) back to pass by them. Just like its smaller variant, its Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with its Bolt Boy and does not appear.

The Gatebot variant of this bot has the same stats, but its vision range is limited to 900 units instead of 1200 units and it does not wear the Fed-Fightin' Fedora. The Bolt Boy cannot be seen, but the bot does wear it.

Pictogram minus.png +50% bigger head size

The Giant Jumping Sandman Scout is far more dangerous than its smaller counterpart, being able to jump higher than normal with a faster ball recharge rate and significantly higher damage. They can easily jump to higher areas to dodge the players' bullets, so they should be killed quickly. Occasionally, they have a hard time deploying the bomb as they are forced to jump even while doing so. They appear only in Wave 3 of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).

The "Major League" Boss Scout-bot is as fast as a Super Scout, with the ability to rain Sandman balls on any unfortunate player in its sight. However, it receives thrice the amount of received airblast push force, and also lacks the extra size increase that every other Boss Robot created by Valve possesses, being only the same size as a regular giant.

Through removing the speed limiter, Major League has been found to move ridiculously quick. He clocks in at a maximum speed of 3200 HU/s and can run from the robot spawn on Bigrock to the bomb hatch in under 15 seconds. He is so fast that his AI does not know how to cope with such speed, and thus will fly off of ramps and hit walls constantly because the AI cannot react quick enough.[2]

 • There is an unused "Scout bat" icon in the game's files.
 • Similar to other giants (except giant Medics), Giant Scouts have unused footstep sounds unique to them (named giant_scout_step01-04.wav).

Notes

 • The Scout Robot's butt-slapping taunt is also used as the drinking animation for the Bonk! Atomic Punch and also functions as a kill taunt if it is wielding the Sandman.

Trivia

Bugs

 • When under the effects of Bonk! Atomic Punch, the phasing trail only aligns with the Scout Robot's feet instead of the whole body. Additionally, they are not stunned by gate captures.
 • Jumping Sandman Scouts and Giant Bonk Scouts are not given a custom name in the files, thus only appear with the default "Scout" name.
 • The Fed-Fightin' Fedora is not visible on Force-a-Nature Scouts due to the Bolt Boy overriding their slot, despite not taking up the hat slot.
 • The Scout Robot lacks animations when taunting with the Force-a-Nature.[3]
