Another reason for its removal may also have been ease of use: While the Medi Gun may be trained on a single person and a beam sustained, the Syringe would presumably require the Medic to be in direct contact with his healing target at all times and would have made it difficult to heal quickly between multiple targets.

The Syringe was to be the secondary weapon for the Medic. In the first trailer, the Medic is seen holding it with his right hand. However, this was canceled before release because Valve wanted to add a healing weapon which was easier to recognize for its purpose, in fitting with the easily identifiable class silhouettes. As a result, it was replaced by the Medi Gun with its conspicuous healing beam.

Another reason for its removal may also have been ease of use: While the Medi Gun may be trained on a single person and a beam sustained, the Syringe would presumably require the Medic to be in direct contact with his healing target at all times and would have made it difficult to heal quickly between multiple targets.

Damage

Unknown. Would heal allies.

Trivia

  • It has been speculated that the Syringe may have possessed the ability to poison opponents, an ability that the Medic possessed in Team Fortress Classic.
  • A number of Syringes can be found inside a tray in an Engineer's level 2 or level 3 Dispenser.
