They appear in large groups, and their critical rockets, which deal six times the damage of a normal rocket, can become a real problem for the defenders. Crit Soldiers fire their rockets much faster than any other non-giant Soldier bot and attack at an infinite rate because of their very fast reload speed, much like a Giant Rapid Fire Soldier. Normal variants
Soldier

Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
— |
Soldier bots behave like human Soldiers, rushing into battle with their Rocket Launchers as a primary means of attack.
By itself, the Soldier bot isn't a terrible threat, but nothing in this game mode comes "alone". A squad of Soldier bots quickly becomes a problem, as the defenders may be faced with a barrage of rockets coming their way. Soldier Robots reload when they have time, and fire when they see an enemy.
Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Soldier | ![]() Cow Mangler 5000 |
— |
This rare variant of the Soldier-bot carries the Cow Mangler 5000; their 80% damage reduction to buildings means they pose less of a threat to an Engineer's buildings. They are otherwise identical to a normal Soldier-bot. They do not fire charged shots. This Soldier-bot variant only appears in wave 4 of Bavarian Botbash (Operation Two Cities, Rottenburg).
Direct Hit Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Direct Hit Soldier | ![]() Direct Hit |
— |
This rare Soldier-bot variant uses the Direct Hit. The +80% increased projectile speed allows this Soldier bot to kill enemies from far range easier, but with some difficulty when a target strafes outside of close range. This Soldier-bot is only seen on the second wave of Cataclysm (Operation Gear Grinder, Coaltown).
Direct Hit Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Direct Hit Soldier | ![]() Direct Hit |
![]() ![]() |
This variant of Gatebot Soldier-bot wields a Crit-boosted Direct Hit, allowing them to deal out a lot of pain. They are only seen near the end of the final wave of Empire Escalation and they are assisted by Uber Medics (Type 2).
Crit Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Crit Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This advanced variant of the single Soldier-bot can easily mow down any player without Crit/blast resistance. These robots only appear in Caliginous Caper and Broken Parts.
Crit Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Crit Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
This variant of the Crit Soldier bot is identical to the first variant, with the only difference being that it lacks the damage bonus the first variant has. This variant only appears on the first wave of Broken Parts.
Buff Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Buff Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() Buff Banner |
![]() |
Buff Soldiers have Buff Banners and start with full rage. They use their banners as soon as they spawn, and can be dangerous if fought right when they enter the battlefield. If they fully refill their rage by dealing damage on players, they reuse their buff. This type of Soldier is especially deadly when combined with other, stronger robots, and should be taken out after any Medics in the wave.
Extended Banner Soldier (Type 1-3)

---|---|---|---|---|

Extended Conch Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() Concheror |
![]() ![]() |
With banner rage duration that last up to 90 seconds long, these Soldiers can keep their allies beefed up for most of their journey across the battlefield. They come in Buff Banner, Battalion's Backup and Concheror variants. These Soldier bots can break a defense with their respective banner effects, and must be taken out alongside any Medic bots that are in the wave.
The Extended Backup variant starts off with the regular 200 health, as robots do not gain maximum health bonuses from items upon spawning. However, they can still gain up to 220 maximum health if there is a healing source (such as health regeneration from bomb buff).
Extended Banner Soldier (Type 4)
Icon | Name | Primary | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Soldier | ![]() Direct Hit |
![]() Buff Banner |
![]() ![]() |
This extremely rare Soldier is a force to be reckoned with. It combines the extra damage of the Direct Hit and the 90-second buff of an Extended Buff Soldier. These robots are only seen on the final wave of Cataclysm. It does not use the correct icon and name.
Extended Banner Soldier (Type 5)
Icon | Name | Primary | Secondary | Hat | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Soldier | ![]() Direct Hit |
![]() Buff Banner |
![]() Defiant Spartan |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
This Soldier is only seen in Caliginous Caper. These Soldiers can wipe out an entire team with a wall of double-damage Mini-Crit rockets. As they can instantly kill every class with full overheal except for Heavies, players should prioritize killing these Soldier robots first. This variant uses the regular Soldier name and icon.
Black Box Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Black Box Soldier | ![]() Black Box |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This Soldier heals itself upon hitting an enemy. To ensure a full recovery of damage taken, it fires 3 rockets at once. However, each individual rocket only deals one-third of the damage from a regular rocket.
Blast Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Blast Soldier | ![]() Liberty Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Blast Soldiers can send players flying across the map with their knockback ability, making it difficult for close-ranged classes to hit the robot horde. Though their rockets deal less damage than regular Soldiers, low health defenders will often die from fall damage when hit by their rockets. A bug with these Soldiers is that they start with the regular clip size of the Liberty Launcher, and so fire 5 rockets at once when they first enter the battlefield.
Giant Robots
Giant Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
A Giant version of the regular Soldier robots with greatly increased health and slower movement speed but wields the same Rocket Launcher as its smaller counterpart.
Giant Rapid Fire Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Rapid Fire Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The Giant Rapid Fire Soldier fires rockets continuously at a faster rate than regular Giant Soldiers, but their rockets are slower. As they never stop firing, they are essentially an upgraded version of the regular Giant Soldier, and they appear more frequently on higher difficulties.
Giant Burst Fire Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Burst Fire Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The Giant Burst Fire Soldier shoots a flurry of rockets in a very rapid succession, but has to fully reload its clip before firing again. Players should be aware of when it is firing and when it is reloading; being unaware or inattentive usually results in a quick death.
Giant Burst Fire Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Burst Fire Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This Giant Burst Fire Soldier variant deals double damage and has a 100% Critical hit chance. Although it does fire slightly slower than its other variant, the faster projectile speed penalty means that the defenders will have less time to react to its attacks.
Giant Charged Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Charged Soldier | ![]() Original |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Equipped with the Original, Giant Charged Soldiers always fire Critical hit rockets. The rockets move slowly and fire slowly, though, at half the speed of a regular rocket's speed and fire rate, and can be easily dodged by wary players. Notably, the Giant Charged Soldier's aiming capabilities is worse than other Giant Soldier variants.[1]

Giant versions of the Extended Banner Soldiers. The only differences is that these bots have more health and also move slower. The same strategy from the other banner robots apply here. Notably, they appear in the second wave of Bavarian Botbash wherein all three variants appear as a squad, which enables them (and other robots) to benefit from all three banner effects. Due to the Backup's Crit immunity, it is recommended to avoid using Mini-Crit and Crit sources until the Giant Battalion Soldier is destroyed.
Giant Black Box Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Black Box Soldier | ![]() Black Box |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Similar to its smaller counterpart, the Giant Black Box Soldier has the ability to heal itself upon hitting an enemy and fires 3 rockets in a single blast. However, it can heal up to 3000 health per attack, so it can easily carry the bomb all the way to the hatch or capture a gate if it keeps healing itself. Because of this, this Soldier giant demands more team coordination than the other Giant Soldier robots. A Medic's Projectile Shield upgrade, a Heavy's Minigun ability to deflect projectiles, or a Pyro's Compression blast can help deal with its projectiles. This variant only appears on the last wave of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, on Mannhattan)
Giant Black Box Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Black Box Soldier | ![]() Black Box |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This variant of the Giant Black Box Soldier has similar stats with the first type of the Giant Black Box Soldier, but deals less damage with their rockets when all gates have been captured. They only make an appearance in Empire Escalation's Wave 2 and 5 along with other bots.
Giant Blast Soldier

---|---|---|---|
Giant Blast Soldier | ![]() Liberty Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The Giant Blast Soldier knocks back enemies similar to its regular counterpart, but it has an increased clip size and reload rate, and does not fire all of its rockets at once. This greatly reduces the defenders' (in particular close-ranged classes like the Pyro or Heavy) ability to bodyblock this Giant Soldier to halt its advance.
Giant Blast Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Hat | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Giant Blast Soldier | ![]() Liberty Launcher |
![]() Dr's Dapper Topper |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This variant of the Giant Blast Soldier is identical, except it has 4000 HP and provides 90% less rage. In addition, it receives the Dr's Dapper Topper cosmetic when all gates have been captured. This variant only appears in wave 3 of the intermediate mission Big Apple Barricade in Mannhattan.
Colonel Barrage
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Colonel Barrage | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Boasting 30 rockets per clip, the Colonel Barrage releases a slow-moving wall of rockets at defenders that is difficult to dodge in enclosed spaces. While Colonel Barrage and its variants have a large amount of rockets, they also move incredibly slowly, allowing defenders to easily dodge its rockets on open ground. It also has a long downtime between barrages since it needs to reload its entire clip before firing again.
Major Crits
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Major Crits | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This variant of Colonel Barrage has a permanent Crit boost, but reloads slower and fires rockets that move slightly slower. One can always find them paired with a Giant Medic in wave 4 of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, on Mannhattan).
Bosses
Soldier Boss Robots move at the same speed as regular Giants, but they possess significantly more health, firepower, and a larger size. Similar to Tanks, their health bars are displayed on the HUD. In addition, Boss Robots have extra knockback resistance and weapon bars, like the Soldier's banners or the Pyro's Phlogistinator, fill up slower.
Major Crits (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Major Crits | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Similar to the non-boss Major Crits, but has 32,000 health from the previous 4200 HP. Otherwise, they are identical. This robot only appears in the 4th wave of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan. Appears 1 wave before the stronger type of Chief Blast Soldier). 37 seconds after it is deployed, 4 Force-A-Nature Super Scouts with the bomb appear from upstairs, it is best to have them halted and killed before the entire team refocuses on Major Crits again. This boss has the least health out of every robot boss in the game.
Chief Blast Soldier
The Chief Blast Soldier is identical to the Giant Blast Soldier, but lacks a damage penalty and has the properties of a boss robot.
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Chief Blast Soldier | ![]() Liberty Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The first variation only appears in the 5th wave of Big Apple Barricade (No-tour mission, Mannhattan). Both variations are exactly the same except in health values.
Chief Blast Soldier (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Chief Blast Soldier | ![]() Liberty Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The second variation of Chief Blast Soldier appears in the 5th wave of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan). It has about 65% more health than its Big Apple Barricade variant.
Sergeant Crits
Icon | Name | Primary | Hat | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sergeant Crits | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() Tyrant's Helm |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This is the juggernaut of all the Soldier robots and it is arguably the strongest robot in the entire game. Similar to the Giant Soldier and the Giant Burst Fire Soldier, it does not fire until it has a full clip reloaded. When it does, it shoots all of its Crit rockets in rapid succession, killing anyone who is unaware or even too close to the attack. All players must take extreme caution to eliminate this robotic threat, as its extremely high health, health regeneration, and Crit-boosted rockets can be a major problem. This robot is the final boss of the mission Broken Parts (Operation Mecha Engine, Bigrock) and he is only supported by Snipers and Spies, although there is plenty of available cash to deal with it.
Unused content
Several unused Soldier templates exist, as listed below:
Major Crits (Unused Type 1)

This Major Crits variant fires rockets that have the same effect as the Sentry Buster's explosion, and deals enormous damage. This unused boss robot is referred to as T_TFBot_Chief_Soldier_Atomic
just like Sir Nukesalot is referred to as T_TFBot_Chief_Demo_Atomic
.
Major Crits (Unused Type 2)

Major Crits | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() Full Metal Drill Hat |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This variant of Major Crits is identical to the Major Crits boss, except it is not a gatebot and has 60,000 HP.
In addition, there is an unused icon for Major Crits in the game files, suggesting that he was wearing a Sergeant's Drill Hat, but it was replaced with a Gatebot Helmet.
Chief Concheror Soldier
Icon | Name | Primary | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Chief Concheror Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() Concheror |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This boss robot is identical to the Giant Concheror Soldier, except it is larger and has 50,000 HP. According to disabled code in Empire Escalation, it reveals that this robot would have appeared in the final wave. However, it would be critboosted and its health would have been halved to 25,000 HP.
Giant Burst Fire Soldier (Type 3)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Burst Fire Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This unused variant of the Giant Burst Fire Soldier is identical to Type 2, except it is a gatebot and does not have a permanent Crit boost. However, the +100% damage bonus attribute is declared on both the primary weapon and the character attributes, causing the damage bonuses to stack. The extra 100% damage bonus is lost when all gates have been captured.
Giant Burst Fire Soldier (Type 4)
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Burst Fire Soldier | ![]() Rocket Launcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This unused variant of the Giant Burst Fire Soldier is identical to Type 2, except it is a gatebot and loses its double damage once all gates are captured.
- In addition, Giant Soldiers also have an unused sound file for rocket explosions (named
giant_soldier_rocket_explode.wav
). - Similar to other giants (except giant Medics), Giant Soldiers have unused footstep sounds unique to them (named
giant_soldier_step01-04.wav
).
