— Area 52 publicity blurb

Area 52 is a community-created Mann vs. Machine map made by Woozlez and Tamari. It takes place in a secret Mann Co. laboratory, with moon rocks and a UFO being hidden within the facility.

Similar to Mannhattan, Area 52 features a gate that gatebots can attempt to capture throughout waves. However, only one gate is present on this map, and the robots gain a shortcut through the map once it is captured, rather than their spawn being moved forward. Tanks also appear on this map, some of which will drive towards the gate directly, immediately capturing it if the Tank gets too close.

Jump pads are also present on this map, these give defenders the ability to quickly traverse from lower areas of the map to higher-up spots.

Area 52 was also one of the maps included in the custom event Operation Canteen Crasher. In Canteen Crasher, players can complete the advanced endurance mission Extraterrestrial Epidemic, and the invasion missions Interstellar Intervention, Tech Mechs, Unusual Onslaught.

In Operation Madness vs Machines, it was featured with the intermediate mission Gatebot Apocalypse.

In Operation Mashed Mediocrity, it was featured with the intermediate mission Stacked Deck.

Locations

Hatch Area

Also marked as "B" in-game. The primary path that the robots take is surrounded by the defenders' spawn and a long pathway, creating a valley the robots must traverse.

A jump pad is also present here, giving the defenders a faster route to their spawn room.

Gate A

Gate A is located at a large door leading out of the facility. A failed elevator shaft is off to the side, Pyros can airblast robots into this shaft to instantly kill them. There is also a smaller doorway next to Gate A that gives players a faster route outdoors, which turns into a one-way door while a wave is active.

Another jump pad can be found here, giving players a fast way onto catwalks that overlook the area.

Outdoors

The spawning area for the robots. They will enter the area from two paths leading from the Carrier Tank, one going over a buried shipping container, and another going over a truck.

An Upgrade Station is also present here, and players can use it in between waves.
