Spectral Flame (halloween spell)

From Team Fortress Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Spectral Flame was a tool item. It could be used on any of the Pyro's primary weapons. With such equipped weapon, any emitted flame particles and afterburn effects are colored with a mixture of red and green.

Prior to Scream Fortress 2015, it could be found during Halloween events inside of Haunted Halloween Gifts on Ghost Fort, or from a Pile of Curses. Since Scream Fortress 2015, Halloween Spells are no longer obtainable, as Haunted Halloween Gifts were replaced with the Soul Gargoyle, which does not distribute spells nor the Voodoo-Cursed Items needed to craft the Pile of Curses. All remaining Halloween Spells persisting in players' backpacks remain visible in them as long as they do not launch the game; if they do, the spells are deleted. Any spells applied to items remain on them.

This effect is only active around Halloween or during a Full Moon; at other times of the year, it does not activate in gameplay, unless the server has Halloween mode enabled. However, items with the spell applied can be equipped at any time and their effect becomes active on the loadout screen, even when it is not activate during matches.

Bugs

  • The backpack icon incorrectly uses the coloring overlay intended for paint cans.
  • The spell couldn't be applied to the stock Flame Thrower (except its Strange variant). The player was able to select a spell from the backpack and a confirmation message would appear, but the effect was not applied and the spell was not consumed.
  • When applied to the Phlogistinator, the unique particle effect of the flames emitted from the weapon is replaced with normal green flames.
  • Spectral Flames do not affect gibs when cl_burninggibs 1 is enabled.
  • The flames follow an enemy Spy for a short time if he activates the Dead Ringer while on fire with Spectral Flames.
