Gourd Grenades (halloween spell)

From Team Fortress Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Gourd Grenades was a tool item. It could be used on any explosive Demoman weapon (except Sticky Jumper). Explosions caused by such weapon appears orange in a similar manner to pumpkin bombs.

Prior to Scream Fortress 2015, it could be found during Halloween events inside of Haunted Halloween Gifts on Ghost Fort, or from a Pile of Curses. Since Scream Fortress 2015, Halloween Spells are no longer obtainable, as Haunted Halloween Gifts were replaced with the Soul Gargoyle, which does not distribute spells nor the Voodoo-Cursed Items needed to craft the Pile of Curses. All remaining Halloween Spells persisting in players' backpacks remain visible in them as long as they do not launch the game; if they do, the spells are deleted. Any spells applied to items remain on them.

Casting certain magic spells while equipping a weapon enchanted with this item causes the effects of the weapon's spell to carry over to the magic spells (specifically the changes in projectile and explosion effects). The projectiles of the Magic spells Fireball, Ball O' Lightning, and Meteor Shower gain a purple smoke trail, while the explosions of projectiles from the Magic spell Summon MONOCULUS become orange pumpkin bomb effects.

This effect is only active around Halloween or during a Full Moon; at other times of the year, it does not activate in gameplay, unless the server has Halloween mode enabled. However, items with the spell applied can be equipped at any time and their effect becomes active on the loadout screen, even when it is not activate during matches.

Notes

  • Similar to Sentry Quad-Pumpkins and Squash Rockets, the spell applied to items is listed as "Pumpkin Bombs" rather than the actual name of the spell. The spell only limited which weapons they can be applied to.

Bugs

  • The backpack icon incorrectly uses the coloring overlay intended for paint cans.
  • The spell couldn't be applied to Stock weapons (except their Strange variants) and the Sticky Jumper. The player was able to select a spell from the backpack and a confirmation message would appear, but the effect was not applied and the spell was not consumed.
