The Spy-cicle is a community-created melee weapon for the Spy. It is a long, translucent, light blue icicle. The weapon gives off mist in third-person view.
Whilst having the same damage and speed capabilities as the Knife, its victims turn into solid ice when backstabbed, similar to the golden statue effect from Australium weapons. Enemies do not turn into ice statues if killed via a standard melee swing.
When backstabbed, a unique sound of ice freezing is produced, allowing alert players to notice the presence of the Spy. Unlike other knives, enemies killed with a backstab from this weapon always perform their unique backstab death animation, causing them to freeze in a pose (unless they are killed in midair).
If the Spy is hit by fire with the weapon active, the Spy-cicle melts and instantly extinguishes the Spy, rendering him immune to any further fire for 1 second and afterburn for 10 seconds. The effect is fast enough that a cloaked Spy remains undamaged even under point-blank Flame Thrower fire, only taking damage from the first flame particle (it should be noted that fire immunity takes effect after the first fire particle does damage, not before). However, the melted icicle is rendered unusable in the process, taking 15 seconds to regenerate. Picking up ammo speeds up the regeneration progress. As it melts, the Spy-cicle emits a loud extinguishing sound. Further contact with flames during the one-second interval still produces the crackling sound that typically accompanies direct damage from the Pyro's Flame Thrower, even if the Spy is invisible. The Spy also shouts a fire-related response after the Spy-cicle triggers.
The Spy-cicle was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

Bugs
- In some cases, the frost effect that is supposed to surround the Spy-cicle is found at the Spy's feet.
- In Mann vs. Machine, if a Spy has placed a Sapper on a robot and then has their Spy-cicle melted while the Sapper is on cooldown and was their previous weapon, the Spy-cicle extinguishes the Spy and enters cooldown period, however, the Spy-cicle is still available for use.
- While rare, there is a chance that, while being disguised as an enemy Spy who is using the Spy-cicle, the Spy-cicle's frost effect can appear floating around where the Spy's hand is, even while completely cloaked.
Notes
- In Medieval Mode, if a Spy is ignited with the Spy-cicle equipped, it extinguishes flames and appears to enter cooldown, though it is still usable.
Trivia
- Fire damage resistance and the inability for the Spy to be ignited were both originally tested on variations of the Fire Retardant Suit.
- Once the fire immunity is activated, the user can survive a Hadouken without taking damage, but not if the Hadouken itself activates the fire immunity.
- The Spy-cicle was first teased on the first day of the Australian Christmas 2011 update, on the bottom left corner of the title image.
