Exorcism (halloween spell)
| “Ok guys, bad news: we lost that last one.” This article documents content for Team Fortress 2 that was removed from the game. It may contain speculation, broken links or errors. |
Exorcism was a tool item. It could be used on any weapon. Any kills with such weapon cause team-colored ghost particles to rise from the corpse of the victim.
Prior to Scream Fortress 2015, it could be found during Halloween events inside of Haunted Halloween Gifts on Ghost Fort, or from a Pile of Curses. Since Scream Fortress 2015, Halloween Spells are no longer obtainable, as Haunted Halloween Gifts were replaced with the Soul Gargoyle, which does not distribute spells nor the Voodoo-Cursed Items needed to craft the Pile of Curses. All remaining Halloween Spells persisting in players' backpacks remain visible in them as long as they do not launch the game; if they do, the spells are deleted. Any spells applied to items remain on them.
This effect is only active around Halloween or during a Full Moon; at other times of the year, it does not activate in gameplay, unless the server has Halloween mode enabled. However, items with the spell applied can be equipped at any time and their effect becomes active on the loadout screen, even when it is not activate during matches.

Bugs
- The backpack icon incorrectly uses the coloring overlay intended for paint cans.
- The spell couldn't be applied to Stock weapons (except their Strange variants). The player was able to select a spell from the backpack and a confirmation message would appear, but the effect was not applied and the spell was not consumed.
- When applied to the Stickybomb Launcher, the effect does not appear for the Demoman if an enemy was killed by a manually-detonated stickybomb, but only if the enemy is killed by a stickybomb that exploded after placing more than 8 stickies at once. Other players are able to see the effect regardless of how the stickybomb was detonated.
