General Strategy (All Classes)

  • Try luring Hale towards the Grinder and knocking him into it. Your melee is enough to knock him back sufficiently.
  • Hide under the roof of the control point to negate Hale's Ground Pound.
  • The Crevice can be used to recover after a fight with the large health kit and ammo pack, but this may isolate you from your teammates if Hale were to spot you. Make sure he is far away, or can't see you before going to recover.
  • Don't stay too close together on the Control Point, as it is an enclosed area where Hale can use his Saxton Punch! to kill loads of mercenaries at once. Spread out a little, or get someone to play as an airblasting Pyro or Medic.
  • Avoid camping inside the RED spawn warehouse, as its open layout and two entrances make it difficult to hold securely.
  • The Hut's large health kit and ammo box makes it a good place to quickly replenish both, but be careful to not take Hale into the Hut with you. The Hut's enclosed nature makes it very difficult to escape and will likely result in your death.

Class-specific strategy

  • If Hale knocks you into the Grinder, use your double jump to avoid falling in.
  • Use the Force-A-Nature to push Hale into the Grinder.
  • The Soda Popper's Hype meter and its multiple jumps can help with going up the Rooftops as a last resort for escape, after being cornered near the Mhankö Office building.
  • When using the Baby Face's Blaster, use the jump pads to quickly get onto the control point and other areas and preserve your Boost.

  • The Rooftops Mhankö Office are a good place to use the Air Strike. Combined with the B.A.S.E. Jumper it can sustain prolonged attacks from above while Hale is distracted.

Leaderboard class pyro.png Pyro

  • Use your airblast to push Hale into the Grinder, or keep Hale away from your teammates/locked into a specific area (such as the Hut)
  • The Rooftops are a good place to harass Hale using a ranged secondary.

Leaderboard class demoman.png Demoman

  • Placing a stickybomb trap hidden in the Hut's enterance can deter Hale from entering it, protecting anyone inside it.

Leaderboard class heavy.png Heavy

  • If your team has no Medics or Dispensers, and Hale is putting a lot of pressure on your team, a Sandvich to your fellow mercenaries who need some more health can go a long way. Preemptively throwing it starts the recharge and lets you give it to more than one teammate.

  • The suspended platform in the Distillery Indoors is a good spot to place a Sentry Gun due to the high ground advantage.
  • Assist your fellow mercenaries by placing a Dispenser inside the Hut to help them recover, the enclosed area makes it less likely for Hale to discover it.
  • Placing Teleporters from the ground floor to the roofs can help your team access them, as well as provide an escape route if they are being chased.
    • Additionally, it can be used as a base for you and your team to resupply. Using the Eureka Effect, you can teleport to your Exit on the roof, build a Level 3, then move it back downstairs with less chance of Hale interfering.

  • The rooftops are a great spot to snipe Hale, as he must go out of his way to try and attack you.

  • The jump pads let you strafe mid-air, which seasoned Spies can use to land trickstabs on Hale, also making yourself harder to hit.

  • If the Mercs try to knock you into the Grinder, try double jumping to avoid landing in it.
  • Use your Mighty Slam on the roof of the Hut if several mercenaries are turtling inside.
  • Your Mighty Slam is negated on the Control Point's roof. If there are too many mercenaries to deal with, try using your Sweeping Charge to isolate mercenaries.
