General Strategy (All Classes)
- If your team has the Intelligence, a powerful class such as a Soldier or Heavy should take it, especially if you are a weaker class like a Sniper or Spy. Their larger health pool and higher firepower lets them survive longer, especially when combined with a Medic pocketing them. If you find a more suitable teammate, drop (default key: L) the briefcase and have them pick it up.
- The Intelligence carrier emits a stream of ghost particles when moving and is visible through walls. You can use these to track where they are if the enemy team has the Intelligence.
Class-specific strategy
Scout
- Your speed and mobility makes you a more suitable Intelligence carrier despite your low health. Considering equipping weapons such as the Mad Milk to keep yourself alive in fights or the Soda Popper to gain extra jumps to escape.
- Use the Mad Milk to reveal cloaked and disguised Spies, forcing them to retreat and preventing them from backstabbing the Intelligence carrier.
Soldier
- The Battalion's Backup's rage can support the Intelligence carrier if the enemy team is counterattacking.
Pyro
- Support the Intelligence carrier by Spy checking around them and airblasting projectiles.
Demoman
- If the Intelligence is not currently carried by either teams, you can set up a stickybomb trap around the area where it spawns, preventing enemies from taking it or killing them immediately if they do.
Heavy
- If you are carrying the Intelligence, stick with your team and avoid overextending. The Intelligence carrier can be seen through walls, leaving you much more vulnerable without your team's support.
Engineer
- Place your Dispenser in a place close to where the Intelligence carrier can easily reach it to fall back. Place your Sentry Gun in a place where it poses a threat to any would-be attackers to allow the Intelligence carrier — as well as the rest of your team — to safely get back to full health.
Medic
- The Intelligence carrier is a high priority healing target, but not the only healing target. A strong team means that even if the Intelligence carrier is killed, a healthy teammate is likely able to take the briefcase back.
Sniper
- Your long range advantage often means that killing the Intelligence carrier means your team may not get to the briefcase before the enemy team grabs it again. However, killing the enemy Intelligence carrier still pauses the timer and can lure more enemies to pick it up and be headshot.
- Try to pick off the Intelligence carrier if they are not close to any of their teammates, or close to your own teammates to have the highest chance of slowing down the enemy team.
Spy
- As with Sniper, killing the Intelligence carrier means your team may not get to the briefcase before the enemy team does. But the period of time where neither team is carrying the Intelligence also means no progress is being made by the enemy team towards their victory.
- You can pick up the briefcase immediately after backstabbing the enemy Intelligence carrier and bring it closer to your team, even if it results in your own death. The Big Earner's speed boost can help getting closer to your team after stabbing the Intelligence carrier.
