Upon taunting with the Huntsman equipped, the Sniper takes the arrow from his bow, spins it behind him, and then stabs it forward fiercely into anyone slow, unaware, or simply unfortunate enough to be in the way. It is necessary to kill someone using an arrow to gain the Shafted achievement. The kill is not caused by the arrow stab itself, which has a stun effect, but rather the Sniper yanking the arrow free; so even when the arrow does not stun an enemy, anyone unlucky to be in contact when the Sniper removes the arrow can still die. The taunt can still be used during Humiliation, to kill the winning team members as they come barreling into your spawn, and during a Stalemate when both teams are unable to attack with conventional weapons but may still perform taunts. Keep in mind, this taunt has a huge invisible hit box, meaning even if the arrow never makes contact with the enemy, as long as it is close enough to strike the air 6 feet in front of them, they will still be stunned and die when the arrow is yanked out.

Stab, stab, stab!
The Sniper

The Arrow Stab, also known as Skewer, is a kill taunt for the Sniper that can be performed with the Huntsman or Fortified Compound as the active weapon.

Upon taunting, the Sniper removes the prepped arrow from his bow, spins it behind him, and then fiercely stabs it forward before yanking it back, stunning and damaging any enemy player slow, unaware, or simply unfortunate enough to be in the way.

The initial stab stuns the victim and deals no damage, while yanking the arrow back deals 500 damage. As the stunning stab and killing pull are separate actions, it is possible to succeed with one but fail with the other depending on whether the enemy is within range or the Sniper is interrupted. Because of this, two Snipers wielding the Huntsman or Fortified Compound can create an infinite stun loop without killing each other, commonly known as a "Staring Contest".[1]

The stun effect of the taunt works on enemies under an invulnerability effect, such as Bonk! Atomic Punch, but does not kill them. Stunning a Medic healing a teammate in this fashion breaks the connection to his patient, interrupting his ÜberCharge if he has deployed it. The range at which the taunt kills is 128 Hammer units (roughly 8 foot / 2.44 meters), past which it has no effect.

As with most kill taunts, this taunt can be used to kill enemy players during Humiliation and Stalemates.

Bugs

 • While stunned, the Sniper can still stun and kill others with this taunt. This can be executed by pointing the cross-hair at the target and rapidly hitting the taunt key or pressing it at the correct moment.
 • If a Pyro ignites the player's arrow and the player taunts, the arrow appears unlit. The arrow still burns after the taunt is used.
 • When being attacked by projectile weapons or weapons with a delay (any melee, Cow Mangler 5000 charged shot, Sandman/Wrap Assassin ball, Flying Guillotine, or the Huntsman), if a user stabs the attacker after the attack is initiated but before it lands, they are still hit, damaged, and possibly killed by it, often interrupting the damaging portion of the taunt.
 • While stunned, performing the Conga taunt allows the victim to escape the Arrow Stab's taunt kill.
 • The Arrow Stab taunt can actually be aimed at any direction, despite the animation showing the Sniper stabbing forward. This means that the user can stun and kill players that are right below or even over the player's head.
