Ay, me bottle o' scrumpy!
The Demoman

The Bottle is the default melee weapon for the Demoman. It is a brown, opaque glass bottle of scrumpy marked with 'XXX' on the label and the year '1808'.

While this weapon operates similarly to most other default melee weapons, if a critical hit is achieved when striking a surface or player, the Bottle's lower half shatters and remains so until the player is killed (it does not mend upon touching a Resupply locker). This effect is purely cosmetic; the broken Bottle has the same range and deals the same damage it did prior to being broken.

Unused content

  • In the VPK, there exists an unused texture for the beta BLU Bottle listed as v_bottle_blue. There is also a version of the model where the Bottle is broken, as well as hit sounds for it.

  • When performing a mini-crit melee strike with the charge of the Tide Turner, the Bottle appears broken for a brief period before quickly returning to its default state.

  • Scrumpy is a type of strong cider traditionally brewed in the West Country of England. It is usually stored in dark-colored bottles, as this prevents sunlight from spoiling the contents.
  • The 'XXX' logo refers to how alcohol is commonly portrayed in cartoons to avoid copyright infringement. It is also a reference to the traditional way of rating alcohol strength, with 3 X's being the strongest.
  • The bucket icons for the Bottle are team-specific, suggesting there were once RED and BLU versions of the Bottle.
