The Demoman on heavy grenades

The Iron Bomber is a community-created primary weapon for the Demoman. It is a quad-barreled grenade launcher with longer barrels, a wooden foregrip and stock, and a large, circular, flip-up front sight.

The grenades fired by the Iron Bomber are spherical in shape, glow, and do not bounce or roll much at all, leaving them to explode in mostly the same place as where they first collided with an object (aside from the effects of gravity). In addition, they have a 15% smaller blast radius (except for the Demoman who fired it) and a 30% shorter fuse time, allowing players to create short-term ground traps with the Iron Bomber's grenades.

The Iron Bomber's grenades have a team-colored band around each of them: if fired on a slope, grenades can often roll in the direction of the band; otherwise, grenades tend to stay in one place.

The Iron Bomber was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

Unused content

  • The Iron Bomber has a set of three unused explosion sounds that have existed since the weapon's release.

Bugs

  • The Iron Bomber is slightly easier to land direct hits with than other grenade launchers because its projectiles unintentionally use a +118.75% wider collision bounds against players.[1]
  • The Iron Bomber uses the same reload animation as the Grenade Launcher, and shows bombs being inserted into the bottom left of the chambers and not actually being inserted into the slots.
  • Due to how the model is rigged, the Iron Bomber's barrels don't spin during the firing animation.

Trivia

  • While the Iron Bomber's projectiles appear visually with a spherical shape, they interact with the world with a cylindrical shape identical to the Grenade Launcher's projectiles.[2] This is most noticeable when the grenades are fired onto ramped surfaces. This also means that the Iron Bomber's projectiles travel in the same arch as the Grenade Launcher's projectiles.
