This article is about the Claidheamh Mòr itself. For other uses of the name, see Claymore (disambiguation).
Right about now you must be wondering how in God's name you're supposed to pronounce Claidheamohmor. The answer: you don't! If you're remotely near one you'll be dead long before you're done injuring your vocal chords anyway!
Fancy vs. Nasty Update description

The Claidheamh Mòr (pronounced ˈkleɪfmɔər) is a melee weapon for the Demoman. It is a Template:W augmented with a crossguard with side rings and a green and team colored Template:W wrapped around the grip. The blade is splattered with blood.

Similar to the Eyelander, this weapon has a large melee range and cannot roll for random critical hits. However, the Claidheamh Mòr only imposes a -15 max health on its wielder. It also will not collect heads from decapitated victims, and as such, killing enemies with the Claidheamh Mòr will not increase health or speed. When equipped with the Chargin' Targe, the sword will allow the Demoman to charge for an additional 0.5 seconds, effectively increasing the length and duration of the charge. Additionally, as an undocumented benefit, by completing the full charge, the recharge of the bar in the HUD is increased by 2 seconds, resulting in a full charge being ready in 10 seconds.

The weapon was originally created for the Fancy vs. Nasty Update as a replacement for the Eyelander, and has since been officially added to the game.

Bugs

  • One of the spikes on the weapon clips with the Demoman's head in third-person.
  • On the kill icon, the Claidheamh Mòr's left side of its hilt curves upwards, while the right side curves downwards. On the actual weapon's model, both sides of the Claidheamh Mòr's hilt curve downwards.

Trivia

  • Claidheamh mòr is the Template:W form of Template:W (literally "sword big"). It is pronounced "clai" (as in the name "Claire") - "v" (or "ph") - "more".
  • Although it is named after the Scottish Claymore sword, it appears to be more closely modeled after a Swiss or German Template:W, with parrierhaken guards above the Template:W.
