The Engineer

The Guitar Smash, also known as Dischord, is a kill taunt for the Engineer that can be performed with the Frontier Justice as the active weapon.

Upon taunting, the Engineer pulls out his trusty guitar, plays a chord, and then bashes it over the head of any enemy slow, unaware, or unfortunate enough to be in the way, dealing 500 damage to them and breaking the guitar. Upon a successful hit, the enemy's head appears to be pounded into their chest.

The range at which the taunt kills is 128 Hammer units (roughly 8 foot / 2.44 meters), past which it has no effect.

As with most kill taunts, this taunt can be used to kill enemy players during Humiliation and Stalemates.

Update history

July 8, 2010 Patch (Engineer Update)

  • The Guitar Smash taunt was added to the game.

Bugs

  • In world view, other players may see the Engineer playing the Frontier Justice as a guitar instead of the actual guitar itself. This also occurs in freeze cams, but it does not occur in client view.
  • If the server variable tf_allow_taunt_switch is set to 1 or 2, several guitar gibs fall out of the player as soon as they start the taunt and quick-switch away from the Frontier Justice. Constantly switching weapons causes a flood of guitar parts to fall from the player. These guitar parts can only be seen in client view.
