A vintage gas station pump combined with a car muffler and an antique fire extinguisher provide the Pyro with all of his burning needs. A portable stove top burner provides 4 ignition sources.
Degreaser publicity blurb

The Degreaser is a community-created primary weapon for the Pyro. It is a makeshift flamethrower that is comprised of a gas pump, a car muffler, an exhaust pipe, a team-colored fire extinguisher, and a stove top burner.

The Degreaser reduces the delay caused by weapon switching from or to this weapon — taking 60% less time to switch to the Degreaser and 30% less time when switching away - facilitating strategic use of weapon combos, such as the Axtinguisher, Flare Gun, and Reserve Shooter. However, damage caused by afterburn damage is reduced by 66%.

The Degreaser, like the Flame Thrower, Backburner, Rainblower, and Dragon's Fury, has the compression blast ability, but using 25 ammo per blast instead of 20 like the Pyro's stock flamethrower.

Afterburn will reduce healing and shield resists from a Medi Gun by 20%.

The kill icon for the Degreaser was contributed by Psyke .

Values are approximate and determined by community testing.

Note: Flame damage is proportional to particle lifetime instead of distance from target. Unlike most weapons, Critical hits are also affected by the scaling. Additionally, there is a very slight damage variance (±0.08 / particle) due to differences in particle angles.

Bugs

  • The attribute -66% afterburn damage penalty is incorrect, as it actually deals 75% less afterburn damage when compared with the Flamethrower. This is because the Jungle Inferno Update increased the default afterburn damage from 3 to 4, but the attribute did not get updated.
  • Rarely, when the Degreaser is turned off during full crits, the flame effect can still be seen though the fix of the loophole, unlike a similar bug with the Minigun, the "flame" can only be seen by the player.
  • If a Pyro using the Degreaser reflects a charged Cow Mangler 5000 shot and hits a player with it, the -66% afterburn damage penalty will still apply to the laser's afterburn, despite a charged Cow Mangler 5000 shot normally doing full afterburn damage.
  • When cl_flippedviewmodels 1 is enabled, fire particles still come from the right side.
  • If the Degreaser isn't deployed for half a second, the player does not receive the holster bonus after switching off to another weapon.

Trivia

  • Degreasers are emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease; since flames consume fats easily, it can be called a literal type of "degreaser".
    • Degreasers are a notorious fire hazard, and through the 1960s, gasoline stored in covered basins was the standard degreaser used when repairing cars at gas stations.
  • Wearing the full "Gas Jockey" set will cause all victims you kill to have a tombstone drop on their body
