Crusader's Crossbow
“ | This thing might look like an old crossbow of before.(sic) However, it's nothing more than a regular syringe gun!

The Crusader's Crossbow is a community-created primary weapon for the Medic. It is a wooden crossbow with a metal barrel attached to a canister housing a syringe. The Medic's class icon is present on both the canister and the frame of the Crusader's Crossbow.
The Crusader's Crossbow fires a syringe at 2,400 Hammer units per second (approximately 45.72 m/s or 150 ft/s) that travels in a slight arc with a team-colored healing streak trailing behind it. The Crusader's Crossbow does not require the user to charge their shot before firing, and the time spent reloading is less than the Huntsman; however, unlike with the Huntsman, the syringes cannot score headshots. Syringes fired from the Crusader's Crossbow damage enemies and heal teammates, allowing a player to deal damage to an enemy or heal a teammate from great distances (although it cannot overheal teammates). Syringes are unable to destroy stickybombs. Successfully healing a teammate with a bolt causes a distinct, angelic sound effect to play. Disguised enemy Spies are damaged by syringes, playing a distinct meat impact sound. Any player hit with a syringe fired from the Crusader's Crossbow, regardless of team, appears to have a syringe sticking out of their body as a cosmetic effect.
Syringes function on a reversed damage falloff scale; the further a syringe travels, the greater the amount of damage (or healing) it causes — at any distance, bolts heal teammates double the damage they deal to enemies. The amount of health replenished is not affected by whether the teammate has been recently damaged. Healing a teammate with a syringe fired from the Crusader's Crossbow also contributes a small amount of charge to the Medic's ÜberCharge meter, but contributes less charge than healing the equivalent amount of health with any Medi Gun. Critical hits do not affect the amount of healing done or amount of charge gained. ÜberCharge gain rate is reduced in the same way that the Medi Gun's healing (and therefore, ÜberCharge build rate) is; that is, the ÜberCharge gain rate is reduced by a third when the target has been damaged within the past 10 seconds, and scales back to normal over 10 to 15 seconds.
The Crusader's Crossbow is automatically reloaded after being fired, even when it is not the active weapon. Its reload time of 1.5 seconds persists, however, preventing the player from spamming syringes by rapidly swapping away from and back to the weapon.
The Crusader's Crossbow has an added cosmetic effect; enemies killed with a syringe near a map object are pinned to it via the syringe. The syringes can also clash with hostile projectiles or throwable items. If a syringe passes within 120 Hammer units[1], it makes a woosh sound.
Unlike with the Medic's other primary weapons, a Pyro can deflect a syringe fired from the Crusader's Crossbow back at the Medic, or into their own teammates to give them a health boost.
The kill icon for the Crusader's Crossbow was contributed by Psyke .

Bugs
- The bolts' particle effect appears at the back of the weapon, instead of from the barrel.
- Reflected bolts may retain the particle effect team color of the Medic's team.
- The Crusader's Crossbow does not heal invincible teammates, which includes ÜberCharged players, players taunting with the Phlogistinator, or the ÜberCharge Power Up Canteen.
Trivia
- The curved metal "bow" at the front of the Crusader's Crossbow appears to be entirely cosmetic, with no known function - no string is drawn and it is not bent as part of the firing motion.
