Map Overview

It’s the classic Badlands map you know and love—but now there’s less of it! We pain-stakingly cut out vast swaths of map to bring you Badlands’ inaugural King of the Hill competition. — Koth_Badlands publicity blurb

Badlands (King of the Hill) is an alternate version of Badlands (Control Point) and Badlands (Arena) that has been modified to fit the King of the Hill gameplay type. It was originally tested in the Team Fortress 2 beta, and then released with the Hatless Update.
Locations
Much like the Arena version of Badlands, the first advance spawn is the only active spawn room. However, it has been expanded, with the usual cp_badlands resupply area now being a side room and a larger more elaborate room being the spawn point for the map. A new exit has been added near the center of the main base, leading off from this new room. Also like the Arena version, entry into the main bases is prohibited, the rock spires are fenced off, and there is a water pit underneath the bridge outside the base. The center control point of the Standard Control Point version is the active point of the map.
Strategy
- Demomen and Heavies are extremely effective on this map due to the various chokes and blind spots between the spawns and control point.
- Despite the map's open nature, Snipers may find it hard to find a secure vantage point for sniping.
- There is a water pit near the spires, like the Arena version, therefore Pyros are less effective close to the spawn area of the map.
- The windows on opposite sides of the central control point leave enough room for a Level 1 Sentry Gun or a Combat Mini-Sentry Gun to fire without being easily seen. A base could also easily be built here by building a Dispenser in the inside of the building, and it can be defended easily by using the Frontier Justice's Revenge crits. The windows can also be used as escape routes for injured Scouts.
