Map Overview
Rottenburg overview.png
The second of our Two Cities finds the mercs defending the Medic's vaguely European hometown of Rottenburg — a sprawling village famous for its centuries-old traditions of 1) chasing the next in the resident lineage of mad doctors out of town with torches and pitchforks whenever they swapped out too many super-charged baboon hearts, and 2) never having been attacked by an army of robots. Traditions will fall, as will Rottenburg itself if the mercs can't defend its twisting cobblestone streets and iconic towers from Gray Mann's robot onslaught.
Two Cities Update

Rottenburg is a Mann vs. Machine map released in the Two Cities Update. It takes place in the Medic's hometown Rottenburg, located near Munich in Bavaria, Germany, Europe. It is the second of two MvM maps introduced in the Two Cities Update, the first being Mannhattan. The map contains 3 missions: the Intermediate mission Village Vanguard, the Advanced missions Hamlet Hostility and Bavarian Botbash.

Trivia

Anatomy of a Heavy Weapons Guy
  • While Rottenburg is said to have been the Medic's hometown, his official profile previously stated that he was raised in Stuttgart, Germany.
  • Mann vs Machine: The Sound of Medicine takes place in a modified version of Rottenburg.
  • There are two real towns in southern Germany not too far from Stuttgart that hold the name "Rottenburg" in their titles: Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Rottenburg am Neckar. Rothenburg translated from German means "Red fortress". The buildings in the Rottenburg map and in the Bavarian Rothenburg ob der Tauber have remarkable similarity in the stone color and in the general architecture.
  • In the Operating theater seen from the spawn room facing the bombpoint, a skeleton arm in the far left corner and a cropped picture of the Anatomy of a Heavy Weapons Guy poster in the center of the room can be seen.
  • Near the front tower there is some Mad Milk bottles and some syringes from the Syringe Gun leading to the making of the Mad Milk syringes upgrade from the Upgrade Station
