Beginning October 6, 2010, Ellis' Cap, along with the [[Frying Pan]], was awarded to anyone who purchased ''Left 4 Dead 2'' before Thursday, October 7, 2010, 4pm {{w|PST}}, as well as anyone who had already purchased the game. If you purchased Left 4 Dead 2 from a retail store, you would still obtain the Ellis' Cap and [[Frying Pan]] as long as the game is linked to their Steam account. According to "[http://www.l4d.com/sacrifice/index3.html#tf2_content_container|The Sacrifice: TF2 Items]" on the Left 4 Dead Blog, anyone who owned Left 4 Dead 2 prior to the announcement would receive the item within a few days of the initial release. This has proven to be quite unexpected to Valve when the hats were not dropping. They fixed everything they could and some people got them based on luck of the draw or due to their cap limit not being reached. Due to the 13 Oct 2010 update everyone can now trade, Ellis' Cap.
