Mmmh, mmmh!
The Pyro

The Vintage Merryweather is a community-created headwear item for the Pyro and was chosen by Valve to be released with the second wave of community-contributed content due to its outstanding quality. It is modelled after a style of fireman's helmet used from the 19th century.

Trivia

  • Merryweather helmets were originally produced by the Merryweather company, a 19th-century British manufacturer of firefighting equipment.
    • This is the second Pyro hat to be styled after a firefighter's helmet.
  • The Merryweather was originally submitted as the Vintage Pyrolean and is labeled "pyrolean" in the game files, as a reference to the Vintage Tyrolean.
  • The hat was originally going to be all gold, but it was changed due to the fact that it was too plain and bright.[1] With the addition of paint cans, you can indeed have an all-gold Merryweather.
    • When this item is painted, the hat retains its gold bands, and the bulk of the hat (the black area) is replaced.
  • The description of this hat (written by ASpieboy) refers to the Pyro as a man.
  • Humorously, if you owned a Vintage Merryweather prior to the Polycount Update, it will now be named a "Vintage Vintage Merryweather". This has been dubbed a "double-vintage" by the community.
    • Because the word "Vintage" is already in the name, the Merryweather is one of two hats whose Vintage versions display as "Vintage Vintage _____", the other being the Vintage Tyrolean.
  • Using the distinctive lack of hue paint can on this hat appears to leave no changes whatsoever, as the Vintage Merryweather's bulk area is already a very dark grey.
