The Proof of Purchase is a special headwear item for all classes. The Proof of Purchase Hat is only available to those who purchased or were gifted Team Fortress 2 before the Über Update on June 23, 2011.[1]

It appears as an olive green Template:W with slight battle damage and Team Fortress 2 logo of a slightly darker shade emblazoned on the side. A narrow belt with a gold buckle extends around the back.

Update history

June 23, 2011 Patch (Über Update)
  • This item was added to the game.

Bugs

  • The Proof of Purchase clips significantly when taunting with a melee weapon as Sniper. [1]
  • The Proof of Purchase was obtainable for almost two hours before the update went live. Players who received the hat as a drop actually received a broken item at the time called the "Namefield". It was a "Level 50 Map Item" that was a "Store Promotional Item / Not Tradable." It lacked the usual preview image, so players did not know what the item actually was. The item was fixed once the backpack and Mann Co. Store were available again after the update.

Trivia

  • The Proof of Purchase appeared in Meet the Medic, worn by a BLU Soldier, prior to the Über Update's release.
  • The Brodie Helmet was also referred to as the Tin Helmet or Doughboy helmet. Less affectionately, it was called a Shrapnel Helmet for its tendency to break when hit by a bullet.
  • The hat itself is from the TF2 Beta that was leaked in 2003 with Half-Life 2's beta. It was worn by the Commando class, what seemed to be the Soldier class at the time. The character design can be found in the artwork section of the TF2 official website in the concept art section. There is also video of the beta in action that was the code pieced together by Team GabeN. [2]
