The Companion Cube Pin, also known as the Portal 2 Pin, is a promotional miscellaneous item for all classes. It depicts a team colored portal and a Weighted Companion Cube floating within, from the eponymous Valve game Template:W.

The Companion Cube Pin was given to those who pre-purchased Portal 2 on Steam before April 19 and awarded from April 15, 2011 to April 19, 2011.[1] Pins were originally awarded to players with the Unique quality, but were later changed to have the Genuine quality shortly after the release of Portal 2.

Trivia

  • A Vintage Companion Cube Pin was given to a play-tester of Portal 2 at PAX 2010, prior to the item's official release.[2] The item can be seen here.
  • A second vintage pin was awarded to another player for unknown reasons.
  • Player Vulcnor, upon winning a charity auction for Child's Play, received a Unique version of the Pin.
  • The BLU Demoman in the promotional art has a dynamite badge on his shoulder instead of the stickybomb badge seen in-game
  • The Companion Cube Pin's level could be a reference to the two portals in Portal 2's name. Think of the 0 as a portal and it makes some sense. (I'm just throwing this out here. I'm really not sure at all)
