The Medic

The Planeswalker Helm is a headwear item for the Medic. It has the same appearance as the tusked helms worn by Garruk Wildspeaker and Venser, planeswalker characters from the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. It is a rough metal helmet with short spikes at the top, small eye slits and tusks extending down along the jaw.

The Planeswalker Helm, along with the Planeswalker Goggles, were added to the game as "upcoming promo items for Magic: The Gathering".[1] There has been no further announcement as of yet regarding these items.

Trivia

  • In Magic: The Gathering, storylines revolve around "planeswalkers", powerful beings who wield magic, travel between planes of existence and do battle with each other.
  • Garruk Wildspeaker is a planeswalker who is a nature mage and beast caller. He is aligned with green magic, the color of healing in the game and rather apt for the Medic.
  • The item description is a reference to the fact that Garruk is known for summoning and working primarily with large savage beasts in the storyline and card game mechanics.
  • Venser is an artificer who shapes and controls metal creations. He is aligned with blue magic and later on, also white magic which a color associated with healing in the game as well. Again, rather apt for the Medic Team Fortress 2 class.
  • The depictions of the planeswalkers Garruk and Venser were originally painted by Aleksi Briclot, and the two planeswalkers wear the same type of helm. Garruk obtained his helm by slaying the sherrif who killed his father when he was a child and now wears it as a trophy.
